Image not central
itsRachel replied to itsRachel's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
This just reminded me that I once had to print another document with the file in affinity in portrait (instead of layed out in landscape) and i've just tested that with a simple boarder and it seemed to work. Annoying as it is much easier to work on landscape and i haven't found a way of working in landscape and switching the whole document to portrait for printing. Hopefully that will work for the whole job, I will be testing it all out tomorrow. Many thanks for your time -

I have to apologise if this has been asked before. I know I have asked a similar question before, I've trawled through the similar posts but can't fix my problem. I'm making an order of service for my brother's funeral so it's important to me, can't get the front image to sit centrally on the cover. Im using a laptop, windows 10, cannon ip8750printer that loads from a rear tray. Printing on plain paper with the margins removed (unticked) in the affinity designer A4 document. I've included a screen shot of how it looks (looks fine on the screen) and then what it looks like printed. Apart from the colours being a bit of a washout, the main issue is that it prints off to the left. If i can get that right I'll fel a bit better about my crap stapling skills

Noted (literally, I'm sitting here with a note pad!) There is a big difference when I scan colour/black and white and grayscale (now I have discovered the setting on the scanner). Black and white is literally black and white, grayscale is washed out and colour has more depth, so I can see why that would be preferable -

That's brilliant! Thanks so much, I think my next idea was to look into colourising so that it a really fun and quite moving introduction. I will print that to show my dad, think he will love it. -

I lost the original but I've scanned it again for you. I'd like to print it black & white, natural looking, no tones. I then cropped it and changed the colour profile - sounds like I didn't need to do that though. I changed the profile because when I used to use GIMP, I was advised to change the mode to greyscale from RGB for black & white prints and I thought this was the same thing. I then printed it on my cannon ip8750 nnnnnnnnnnnnneed to -
Does anyone have advice on how to improve the quality of the copy I have made? The original is the smaller, cool and clear toned print and mine is the larger, muddy, not very nice copy. My dad took the lovely original of my grandparents and I want to make a copy he can see more clearly. I've got myself thoroughly confused by colour profiles anyway, never mind how greyscale fits into this. I understand that I need to convert to a greyscale format as it seems to scan through as a colour format. After doing this and exporting it shows as Grey/8 Greyscale D50 but the print is not very nice at all, as shown in my attachment. I have looked through existing topics but have only become more confused 😒

I'm sure I just read a post about using a 'snap tool' i saw it before I'd put my glasses on but by the time I'd got myself suitably attired, there was no post! If anyone deleted it, I WAS interested 😉 -

Yes and no, it's getting to know the equipment you are working with isn't it. Anyway, I'm very pleased with progress made during this project -

@Oufti do you think, looking at how it finally worked out, and how rotating the image worked, that this was an issue with my printer or with Affinity settings ? -

@AlanPickup dear fellow, this appears to have worked 😮 Rotating it set the orientation to 'automtic' too which I don't get, and don't much care if it works. I'm not even sure if I did what you said exactly but I'm going to add some screen shots in case it helps anyone else. Thank you! 😊 This is not my photo by the way so I can't take any credit for it..colours are terrible too, perhaps due to lack of ink 😉
