  1. A very simple question for some i'm sure. What is the best way to design a poster back and front and send for printing. 2 files named front and back? 2 art boards? double the size of the page and do the work side by side? Thanks
  2. Hello, Just bought Affinity Designer, after the trial software made it quite accessible to finish a friend's gig poster on time. I haven't done much design work in a fair while, and educating myself on the needs of printed materials took longer than I'm thrilled to admit. The software helped me greatly with its accessible layout, and it didn't require much relearning from when I did these things years ago. I started by cleaning up a photo I took with Aperture, a software I find to be overlooked. From there, a challenge was the size and resolution of the photo. The photo was taken in a hurry on a fly-by visit from the musician, on the 16:9 setting and didn't leave ample crop room to set to A3. He really liked the photo though. From here the challenge was duplicating part of the image - for width, composition/ layout, and to make it all available at 300dpi. Importing tiles of backdrop taken from the original photo, and carefully placing and graduating transparency on them was an effective way to not make the join particularly visible. Laying out the text was easier, and finding the specific fonts online was no problem, but to make it most effective the smallcaps function helped me out. It made the compound word that was one band's name more distinct from those with spaces in. And it made the font appropriated from the record sleeve much easier to read quickly. For these layout aspects being easy to find and execute, and the result being one we were all pleased with, I was very happy to get the software for future use. Good to meet you all, Christie. P.S. Sometimes this file uploads really red, so if it does that, you can see it on my tumblr here: http://spawnartisticdirections.tumblr.com/post/147280447006/
  3. This is my riff on the Photoshop tutorial How to Create a Retro Sci-Fi Computer Game Poster from the Spoon Graphics blog. With some modifications I was able to complete this entirely with Affinity Designer.
  4. There's some really cool First Order propaganda posters out there. Playing around with making a few posters while learning AD. Constructive feedback is always appreciated. Stormtrooper art 3.29.16v3.afdesign
  5. Hello, I am working on a poster for a school project using Affinity Designer. I am trying to export it to PDF but I keep getting the following error message: An error occurred while exporting to: /Users/Michael/Desktop/GEOL429_poster-II copy.pdf I've searched the forum for similar issues but I couldn't find any (or I'm terrible at searching). It's probably the largest file I've worked with (dimension-wise) at 1.5 m x 0.9 m, which is probably why it's not exporting. But I made one back in December at 0.9 x 0.6 m that was almost certainly a larger file due to using more graphical content. I was wondering if anybody had run into this problem before or had any possible solutions? I have trouble believing that Affinity Designer is not capable of this task (since it rocks at everything else). Thanks for any ideas.
  6. Hi y'all -- I am trying to do in Affinity what I used to do in Photoshop using a "Photo Edges" filter -- to reduce and simplify an image into a set number of colors, in flat areas, in a way sort of like the Obama "Hope" poster but usually not in patriotic colors. Is there a filter like this under a different name in Affinity? I'm sorry to ask for a translation -- with software as complex as both Photoshop and Affinity, it's quite a learning curve.
I create in this Affinity Photo Tutorial a movie poster in the style of James Bond "Spectre". Not a copy but a variation. With English Subtitles. I would be happy, when you post or tweet me your variations. Viel Spaß Euer Jack Bauer
  8. Was asked by some theatre kids at my college to make a poster for an upcoming show... Where else should I turn but to Affinity Designer!
Also besonders interessant für Umsteiger. Viel Spaß beim Ansehen. Yeahaaa! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qUo-yJWweE
  10. This is my tribute to Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas; who didn't panic when a Maccy D bag, got itself caught on Froomey's quick release skewer. On the final stage in Paris. All this happening on those famous cobbles; in front of the World's press and TV cameras. You can't pay for better product (mis)placement. McDonalds...you bet they're loving it. :D :D :D :D :D BTW The top of his wheel is a French frie. ;)
  11. Hola Amigo, Played with Affinity Designer today too. Trying to get familiar (i am not that good at illustrator too). Today I made a small poster called "Neo Japan" :P :) Feel free to share your suggestions.
  12. Hello Everyone, Nice to see an active forum. I really love the work posted by the artist, nice designs. Yesterday I bought Affinity Designer. It's a cool software. First impression, I like it. Peaceful and neat UI. Good job. I really to see more tutorials and modular documentation for using the tool. Currently, you have good tutorials. But like to see Serif initiative to give design tutorial from scratch that give more confident to the new users I think. It's just a suggestion. One more thing, I made something in Affinity and like to share with you. Welcome to the Machine poster based on Pink Floyd song https://www.behance.net/gallery/26923669/Welcome-to-the-Machine-Revisited Project Facemash, It's my personal project https://www.behance.net/gallery/26906337/Facemash-Part-3 Please feel free to share your valuable suggestions and Say Hai to me. :)
  13. Hello, I am working on a project right now and I have created a document in size of 22*28 inches. However, in order to print it, I will need to print it on 8.5*11 inch paper. I have made guides that divide the document across exactly where I need to print each individual sheet, and I am pasting it onto a poster so I do not need to worry about overlap. Can someone please help me figure out how to create the individual sections? I have a picture of my document here: https://goo.gl/photos/z2eijf8dB8w1WMbW8 Thank you for all your help!
  14. Hello everybody, I've created this double bill poster of Laurel & Hardy. This year marks the 125 years anniversary of Stan Laurel's birthday. These two movies are coming to the big screen in England, Scotland and Ireland. Using my sketch as a guide I created this poster completely in AD. This is my first larger artwork in AD. The first release of AD was a bit too unstable to me, but much has improved since the update. So, I'm very pleased working with this piece of software. 15. Beginning of an occasional series celebrating the icons of my youth...
  16. Well this sentiment gets me round. Might not work for everyone.
  17. WIP of a Better Call Saul illustration, been playing on my mind for a while and found time to make it today (see below)
  18. Hey guys! First time posting here. :) This is a poster i made with affinity designer, with some post work in photoshop. It's for a play, called "O Tornos" which means lathe in greek. It's a great dark comedy. You can see the final version in my behance project
  19. This little guy is Marvin, I stumbled upon him whilst finishing of a Marmite themed bit of artwork yesterday. Played with him and developed his character a lot more today, I have to say I really like him....and I may well adopt him to do more.
  20. First of all, sorry for my bad English. Second, thans to Serif for this wonderful software. Thanks for gradients, do this in illustrator is unthinkable, the file size of the filters by the speed of the program to work with much effect. Thank You. Soon I'll be posting more. I am listing all the pros and cons match against Illustrator to put them in a self review. The design is suit the client, I do different things;)
  21. So far the government are resisting my calls to have these distributed nationwide.
  22. Poster for a music show with singer-songwriters opening for Sam Lewis. I used photo references to illustrate the performers.
  23. I was making a icon to use as a replacement for the one automatically displayed on the desktop when I plug in my kindle paperwhite and it turned out quite well. So, I thought I'd make it even more accurate and make a marketing-type poster. All vector and all done in Affinity Designer, including all the text, lines and icons on the display. It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, mainly because its really a lot of rounded rectangle shapes, but that's what makes vector art (and AD) great :) I'm hoping to make a more 3D-ish one that appears to be rotated around 20~30 degrees around the y-axis sometime, but I'm happy with this "straight on" one, too. I've also include the icon as a png if anyone would like to use it. Hope you like it! edit: re-uploaded the png with a few minor fixes for some strokes getting too big after resizing the layer
  24. Sneak peak of the piece Im working on at the moment...It's got a tad complicated, but I have to report the software has not lagged, frozen or crashed once. So pleased with it, I had to finish a couple of projects in illustrator earlier and missed Affinity.
