  1. @Dan C Many thanks. I have uploaded the file. I have managed to recover it in a fashion but am slightly nervous about continuing to use it until I know if there was root cause in case I lose it again (I did this by migrating it over to my Windows Installation, opening it, then doing a save as, I then brought that version back over to MacOS and then relinked and resaved. Does seem to be ok but as you can imagine I am terrified it might break again, I'm doing hourly back ups now but it still doesn't fill me with a huge amount of confidence). Interestingly, moving it over to windows, making a small modification and then saving directly rather than a save as produced the exact same error that occurred on Mac suggesting it's a document issue. To answer your questions: 1. Which Operating System are you using? macOS Monterey 12.3 2. Which version of Affinity did the file last get saved in? 1.10.5 3. What drive type was the file last saved to (select more than one if needed)? Local disk 4. Any other information you think would help us try to find the problem I did notice that when I was relinking the elements in the "recovered" version that maybe 2-3 images were actually pointing to my dropbox folder where I had messed up and failed to copy them locally (probably when tired). However that Dropbox location is fully accessible and I wouldn't expect 2-3 files causing the whole document to go down...but might be relevant. Thanks.
  2. Hello, As per my original post, the new update 1.8.3. failed. Salvatore beat me to my commenting when his installation failed. I tried again a few days later as admin. This too failed. I tried again just now, as admin and the installation was successful. I don't want to have to try 3 times over a few days before the install succeeds. What is happening here? Surely it must be possible to create a rollback option if the update fails. Luckily I have Designer on my Mac which I bought after the first failure. I shouldn't have to do this. I also cannot believe we are the only two folk this has happened to. Come on Serif, this is just not good enough. I've never had so many failures on updates from one company. In fact I can honestly say that in all the years I've been using computers, updates rarely fail and this includes Microsoft updates.
  3. If you're getting an error when installing our app/update, please read the following thread on our support forum ( https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/64511-windows-installation-issues-faq/ ) for more information. However, if you're getting a Setup Failed error or the Installer Window UI isn't displaying correctly, please read the appropriate instructions below. // Setup Failed Error If you’re getting an error ‘Setup Failed’ when trying to install our app/update, please try the below suggestions. They should hopefully allow you to install our app/update without any further issues: ⁃Restart your machine and try the installation again ⁃Right click the .exe file and select ‘Run as Administrator’ ⁃Make sure your machine isn't in the middle of installing updates - this can lock files needed to install our app/update ⁃Make sure your machine is fully updated by checking for any available updates ⁃If you’re using an app, such as ImDisk, to modify where your TEMP directory is stored, please disable this and use the default Windows TEMP directory. // Installer Window UI Issues If you’re not getting ‘Setup Failed’ when installing our app/update you could be experiencing one of the below issues: ⁃If you’re not seeing the installer Window UI at all, please read this thread on our Support Forum for more information: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/67113-issue-of-install/ ⁃If you’re seeing the Installer Windows UI but it only shows the App’s name, please download and install the latest versions of the Windows .NET Framework from here: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework If you’ve tried all of the above and you’re still having issues, please send us your Setup log files. This will allow us to look into this further for you.You can access the setup log files by navigating to %TEMP%\AffinitySetup\ from the Run Dialog. You will want the folder with the latest Created/Modified Date. In this folder you will have two .log files: Setup.log & SetupUI.log.
  4. Hi I bought Affinity publisher after the installation , the registration failed as you described , and impossible for me to get the free publisher templates wich are a part of the order . is it another way to get this templates ? Thanks
  5. I am unable to install Affinity Publisher update 1.8.5. Every time I try, I get a message stating "Setup failed". I had similar issues with Affinity Photo and Designer, but after restarting my PC, the updates installed correctly. This time it is not working. Any suggestions to fix this installation issue would be appreciated. FYI - Affinity Publisher is not running either during the installation attempt. Thanks.
  6. Thank you for your answers so far - but as both Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher has been OK since my Win 7 PRO restore (Same PC/Motherboard/SSD) the Photo should be reinstalled likewise? The error message is given on verification process is: Invalid details - because when I purchased the Photo app I had a different e-mail address from a provider that closed their business. I recon that that Affinity checks against the original purchase parameters, including the e-mail address - there is a mismatch that I asked you to resolve - by updating my previously valid e-mail address (which is inoperative/terminated by provider) - to my new email address. If you read (again) the last lines in my posting you see my new e-mail address that is and has been fully functional over the period. To the last post from Walt: The download of the Affinity Photo went like it should - quite analog to the 2 other packages (which I have used almost daily since) but when I had to verify the installation after download - it failed to verify my installation - with the notification mentioned. I will try to attach the screendump from this incident.
  7. I have a problem with affinity photo customer beta on windows. On monday when the update process was on is way, my pc was shut down by a general power off occurred even in the streets. After that i can't install it anymore... Always setup failed, the uninstall process too, then i've tried to remove manually the installation folder and i've used ccleaner to remove the registry entries, but even that way it doesn't work... it still appear on the "installed applications" but i can't remove it because it give me some binaries error. I've tried installing the version that was there before, but setup failed too... Any ideas?
  8. Hi @JoeSire, Sorry to hear you're having trouble installing the Affinity app! I don't believe this is necessarily GPU related, although I will ask our developers to double check this - unfortunately the only time I have seen the SetupUI.log file failed to be created is due to permissions. Firstly, can you please try right-clicking on the downloaded .EXE and select Run as Administrator. Does this allow the install process to succeed? Secondly, it may be an issue with your Windows user account, or a third party application (such as AV antivirus mentioned above) could be affecting the installation. Could you please try creating a new user account on your computer, and seeing if the Affinity application can be successfully installed there? Please do let me know how you get on here Edit - Apologies JoeSire I have just recalled I have already asked you to try step 1 in a separate thread. Please do let me know if a new user account allows the installation to succeed!
  9. Windows is notorious for not allowing an installer to run if another installation is in progress, and often there is an installation of some kind running in the background, it a prior installation run that failed, invisibly. I usually don't have any problem installing any of the Affinity applications, but sometimes I do, and a reboot cleans up Windows to allow the installation to work. Sometimes when installation of an Affinity app fails I have checked and found a prior installer that is hung (not from Affinity and not something I initiated) or sometimes I have found that Windows is in the middle of a Windows update. Rebooting fixes all of those (for me).
  10. Affinity Publisher: On opening Publisher update required from 1.7.1 to 1.7.3. clicked on notification to go to the Affinity internet page to download the update. clicked on the "download", ( PC Windows 10 operating system), downloaded the exe file, run the installer, allowed the program to modify the computer, publisher files downloaded, installation failed. Attempted to restart Publisher, seems Publisher is no longer on my computer. Tried to download Publisher from my account, installation failed (presumably update required the original product to be on the computer). Help
  11. Thank you MEB for your reply! My follow-up question is, why is it that each time I try to install Affinity Photo on my newer PC (running Windows 10) the installation quits abruptly with the only message being "installation failed" without any other accompanying error message(s). It appears as if it can't even begin the installation (no progress bar of any kind, etc.) The farthest it gets is the screen which asks to confirm the directory of the installation, which is then followed immediately (upon my clicking "OK") with the "Installation failed" message. Any thoughts? Suggestions? I'm near the point of resetting my PC back to factory settings and starting fresh... Thanks again.
  12. I tried all suggestions but still failed to update Photo to V1.9 and install Designer (new purchase) 1.9. I wonder if I should reset my computer and install the software again. All doc files are on cloud and the installation is just for the programs. Here are what I did but failed: Update the Window - I noticed that .Net was updated automatically Removed all C++ from the computer and installed the the C++ Redistributable All in One from https://www.techpowerup.com/download/visual-c-redistributable-runtime-package-all-in-one/ (I virus scanned the Zip file before activating it) Restarted at least 4 times I have created a restore point after each step just in case I mess up with the removal and updates. I'm not so tech savvy at all. Do you think the last resort of resetting the computer will work? Or Affinity can fix the update as suggested by Pirulero?
  13. Had to produce documents. Switched to an old installation of QuarkXpress to continue to work. In the meanwhile Serif issued the Beta Publisher 1.9.1.967. Installation failed. Setup.log and SetupUI.log attached. Setup.log SetupUI.log
  14. What is the symptom you're getting when it fails to install, @Work Pics 360? Have you checked the other FAQ articles about installation failures, and failures to run? For example: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/98922-faq-installer-errors-setup-failed-installer-windows-ui-issues/ or https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/101457-faq-what-to-do-if-affinity-is-failing-to-start-crashes-on-startup-or-the-ui-is-not-displaying-correctly-windows/ If you're getting one of the Setup Failed errors, please examine or provide the setup logs, which will probably have more information.
  15. I purchased affinity designer in March. I installed it on my desktop and it work flawlessly, except I had a slow computer. I got a laptop and downloaded it to the laptop, but when I double click on it to install it, it says, “This product requires a Microsoft .NET update, which will now be installed.” when I click on the continue button, a pop up comes up that says, “Do you want to allow the following program (Affinity Installer) to make changes to this computer?”. I click yes to continue with the install, and a pop up comes up that shows a status bar that says “Extracting Files”. Then a dialogue box that says, “Waiting for Microsoft .NET installer to complete”. And then the dialogue box says, “Microsoft.NET installation failed. Setup will now exit”. please help me. im not computer savvy but I know how to follow directions. thank you.
  16. Before reinstalling I'm going to play with it a bit, just out of curiosity. I just tried it again today while connected to the Internet. The first two times APhoto 1.6 launched successfully. The third and fourth tries failed. The fifth try was successful, 6th failed, 7th successful. I closed the application after each try and waited a bit to let everything calm down between launch attempts. Then I disconnected the Ethernet cable and tried launching again. The first time it launched successfully, then failed three times in a row, then launched successfully on the fifth attempt. I also tried right-clicking Run as Administrator. Made no difference. Sometimes it launches, sometimes it fails with the unhandled exception. I don't recall encountering behavior like this with any software in 35 years of desktop computing and at one time supporting users on 300 computers in my workplace. So now it is an interesting puzzle with my computer rather than a problem with APhoto, for which I am glad. APhoto has been wonderfully stable through the past three years I've been using it through three versions. But my computer also has been stable, so I'm wondering what changed to cause this problem now. Perhaps something in a Windows upgrade. I haven't installed any other new software on it in a couple of years as it is not my main computer. I'll root around a bit to see if I can figure out what is happening before I resort to reinstalling. I do have my original installation file affinity-photo-1.6.5.123.exe from 8/24/2018 (I originally purchased APhoto on 10/30/2017). I always save old software. Then again, it's income tax time in the States and I'm always looking for a distraction. So maybe I'll just stop playing and reinstall Ver 1.6 on Monday. If it works after that, great. If the problem persists then I'll find it interesting to investigate.
  17. I downloaded the new 1.7.1.404 versions today (photo, designer, and publisher 1.7.1.399) as they have been released when I try to install them, I receive the message "Setup failed". I tried to run the installers as an administrator, "setup failed". I tried to uninstall the software, but couldn't found them in Windows "Apps and Features" I tried to use my current version installers, I get the option of repair or uninstall, both show the message "Setup failed" Here are the installation log files. Can someone help me with the issue please. Setup.log SetupUI.log
  18. I have downloaded version 1.8 of Affinity photo but on installation I have a message that setup failed. No other details given. There is now no available version of affinity photo on my PC. The old version has been removed and I cannot re-install the old version (1.7.3) this also fails. Any help would be appreciated. I am running microsoft windows version 10, which was updated twice yesterday, prior to that affinity photo was working. Version 1.7.3 was installed and when I opened it this morning it reported a new version available, which I downloaded and attempted to install. The failure is definitely in the installation program.

  21. Success! It works. First, I didn't touch the registry file to achieve success (although I was prepared to do that). Instead, I performed the following. Step 1: When using the Uninstall tool Dan referenced (neat tool, Dan; I never knew about it), I found two oddly-named programs immediately listed under "Not Listed." One was named "..."; the other "..". I deleted them both. Then I shut down the PC for 30 minutes as I ran an errand. When I returned, I restarted my PC, and whatever the two oddly-named programs were that I had deleted, the PC started fine. I then performed Step 2. Step 2: I launched Windows Explorer, and under my C drive (where I install programs), I looked in the following folders: Program Files, Program Files (x86), and ProgramData for any folders labeled "Affinity" or "Serif." Under the folders labeled Program Files and ProgramData -- but not under the folder labeled Program Files (x89) -- I found folders labeled "Affinity" (but none labeled "Serif"). I deleted them all. Before I deleted them, I inspected their contents and found a couple of Affinity sub-folders that held one or two files; most were empty. Step 3: Next, while in Windows Explorer, I right-clicked my C drive, clicked Properties and, while on the General tab, I clicked Disk Cleanup. It analyzed my C drive and identified "Temporary Internet Files" and "Temporary Files" that could be deleted. I selected both and clicked OK. Step 4: After Disk Cleanup finished running, I re-launched Windows Explorer, and under the C drive, in the Windows folder, I located the Temp folder. I then deleted every folder (there were a couple of dozen, dated today) that was empty. Step 5: I returned to my Download folder, right clicked the the AP Ver 1.7 file I had downloaded under My Account on the AP web site, and selected "Run as Administrator." AP installed. It also placed the new AP icon on my desktop. I subsequently was able to launch it. Here is what I saw while AP was installing: After right clicking "Run as Administrator," the install program (like before, when the installation failed) asked whether I wanted to install AP on my C drive, in a folder labeled Affinity (yes). It also asked whether I wanted to create a desktop shortcut (yes). Next, a window popped up labeled Preparing. The Preparing thermometer slid halfway across its length, about the same length and at the same speed as before when the process failed. Then the Installing window popped up. Here's where things went better. In the past, when the installation failed, the Installing thermometer flashed across its entire length -- it was quick! This time, it moved gradually. When the thermometer reached (approximately) the halfway point , the new AP icon appeared on my desktop. When the thermometer reached the end of its length, the thermometer went away and "Setup Completed Successfully" appeared. I then double-clicked the new AP icon, and the program launched. Although I haven't used AP since updating it, I am encouraged that it installed. More interestingly (probably because I didn't delete any register entries), in the upgraded AP program, under Files/Open Recent, my most recent project files appeared. I had assumed, since I had deleted all known Affinity folders, especially the one under ProgramData, the files I had been working on would not appear. A pleasant surprise. I hope this helps. If later today, after I play with AP, I encounter any more issues, I'll let you know. One of the things I wonder about: how to install a set of Macros I was given when I purchased AP over the winter. I guess I'll figure that out next.
  22. Both Designer and Publisher cannot complete their installation procedure on my PC. I've uploaded log files to Mark Ingram's Dropbox. My PC hs been out of use for more than half a year, so when I was able to start it up again today, a lto of updating was to be done. Windows 10 (Home) is up to 1903. The installation process for Designer (1.7.1.404) appears to be going well, but after some time it stops with a meager message "Installation failed". The same experience with Publisher (1.7.1.404), which was not installed on this PC before Is there some cleaning that I can do clear my PC from any Affinity remnants?
  23. I haven't used publisher for a little while. I was prompted to update to 1.8. Following instructions I opened up publisher- it prompted me to update to 1.8. This download fine. I ran the update - it got almost to the end then came up with error message update failed. As if that wasn't bad enough, when I clicked on the Designer Icon in Windows I got an error message Item referred to in the shortcut cannot be acessed When I looked at the folder under program file affinity publisher Windows refused to allow me to open it. A right click on properties showed a 0 files content. It seems this 1.8 update has managed to totally trash my installation. What in the world is going on??? I now have to waste time finding the original installation files and start again = Not a happy bunny to say the least!
  24. So having struggled for days with terrible crashes on my Windows installation (and happy that my Mac version was still working), today Photo 1.10 (official release) quit unexpectedly in background. It offered to recover open files, but failed. Then it crashed again the same way. It's now running, but I have two crash reports to post from the Console crash log. This is a new M1 MacBook Air 16GB RAM 1TB SSD storage. OS data is in the crash logs. Affinity Photo_2021-08-18-171834_MacBook-Air.crash Affinity Photo_2021-08-18-171900_MacBook-Air.crash
  25. I have just tried to update my Affinity Photo installation to V1.8.5 but after clicking Update, it responds Setup Failed. I have run this as Administrator. This is the same process that has worked correctly in the past for previous version updates. What's the problem?
