  1. Well hopefully you start up again at some point! Best wishes for whatever venture you end up doing!
  2. So nice to finally see the person behind many of the older Affinity videos! Having said that, I tend to agree with an earlier poster that the picture in picture is a tad distracting and that an intro/outro would be less so. You have such a great voice for this; I swear I could listen to you read the dictionary and not get bored. Thanks for these VERY helpful vids!
  3. I just tried loading a keyboard shortcut file but it was doing something a bit weird, unless it's supposed to be that way. For me, when i loaded from a file i have saved, it would restore all the keyboard shortcuts but only in the category that was selected, so i had to do each 'File, Layer, Edit, Text, View, etc etc etc one at a time. It worked, but it wasn't pretty.
  4. Is there any way to get the text styles back from Designer 1.6? I'm absolutely LOVING the 1.7 update and I'm grateful to not have to use Adobe but these 1.7 text styles are just awful. The ones from 1.6 were much better, even if there were only around 4 or 5.
  5. Naturally it's not the go-to solution, but I have been using it, problem free, on Windows 10 (1903) so it's worth a shot if OP doesn't find anything else to work.
  6. Well have you tried CS2? Adobe is offering it for free as they are no longer supporting it. It may not have a few features you are used to if you have used Photoshop CC but it does the job that CS2 was originally meant to do.

  8. I gotta say, I'm a bit underwhelmed by the one and only post.
  9. Thank you for the business card tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for regarding bleeds! As far as the tutorial itself: Pros: You made it easy to understand and you were quite detailed and nothing was left unanswered. Had no problem following along even tho I missed most of what was said. Cons: too much lows in either the mic or speakers (or both), resulting in a very low, muffled tone of speech that was hard to hear for someone with hearing impairment, even with the volume way up. The design is lovely! a bit hard to see in that darker color amongst the busy background. Perhaps a white color block behind the text and logo? Anyway, great tutorial, thank you very much and I'm looking forward to more of them!
  10. If you got the Lucida Handwriting font from a third party source, it's possible the file name starts with something else. I've had that happen on several fonts. Look through the whole list and you may find it.
  11. looks like you are starting to get the hang of it a little, @Josie. Don't forget to watch those videos i posted for you. Ezra Anderson's tutorials are perfect for absolute beginners.
  12. Josie, one thing that would help you a lot is to go ahead and purchase Affinity Photo for iPad. It's a much better tool for working with photos. Designer is more akin to Illustrator while Photo is more akin to Photoshop. It would be much easier for you, I think, to be using something more geared toward photo manipulation. I'm glad you have watched some tutorials. They definitely help. Here's a couple more videos for you, in case you decide to buy Affinity Photo (you really should!) that are geared toward absolute beginners such as yourself. They feature Ezra Anderson, who is just fantastic for breaking things down to make them as easy as possible. These are both for ipad! These two videos will be very useful for doing cat photos
  13. i thought your result was pretty good all things considered. I might take down the highlights just a tad as the blown out pixels are making your food look a bit plasticky.
  14. you need to cut the cat head out of the background that it's probably on. Here are two videos to show you how to do that. WATCH THEM. It's your job to learn the software. You won't learn anything at all if everyone keeps doing the work for you. I want you to succeed!
  15. Josie, i feel like maybe someone told you that graphic design is an easy side hustle and so you decided to dive in thinking it would be easy. If that's the case, this isn't the side hustle for you. If you really are interested in art and design, you will take the time to learn how to use the programs one step at a time and build your way up to doing those cat pictures. I found a couple of very specific cat painting tutorial for you at these links. It's for ipad even. Watch, learn and practice. LOTS of practice. You are NOT going to make art that looks like those pictures you posted any time soon. Be patient.
  16. I'm not sure where the options are on an ipad but as far as i know the process remains the same. Alt + Left Click on Add. Definitely don't use the erase layer mode then.
  17. There seems to be more options on the mac ecosystem to choose from as far as graphic design software so I'm sure there's already a fantastic alternative for mac.
  18. select your objects, and hold Alt and click on Add. Those segments will still be editable. As a side note: Using Erase mode will rasterize the result, which may not be desirable.
  19. @Josie 1. Pick ONE picture at a time and work on it. Don't split your focus because it makes things seem overwhelming. 2. Google Affinity Photo tutorials. Watch them. Do the things they do. When you learn the techniques, you can apply them to any of your horde of cat pictures. There may be a few cat picture related tutorials out there but there's not going to be tons of tutorials out there walking you through the process of making cat pictures. You will have to find tutorials that relate to what you want to do to those pictures. If your question is about gradients, then search for tutorials about gradients. If you need to make a cat a different color, search for tutorials about recoloring..and so on Also, google general tutorials about compositing (combining multiple images into a new piece of art) and that should get you started. I really wish you all the luck in your quest for fun cat pictures. Feel free to share your work here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/10-share-your-work/
  20. Well, I'm thinking that possibly the OP has bitten off more than they can chew, as it were. Here's a helpful resource for absolute beginners in graphic design. This should help you more. https://www.udemy.com/introduction-to-graphic-design/
  21. I think the OP is looking for something to vectorize the images they have. Image trace isn't available yet but there are other options, like Inkscape for example
