+1 for a measuring/tape measure tool.  I use the measure tool in my 5 year old Corel Draw package along with tape measure tool in Sketchup all the time for home design projects.  I just bought Designer primarily for it's Isometric grid features, but also so I can share and update my drawings on my iPad as well as my PC.  I've just been measuring the kitchen cabinets and designing a new island, but having to manually draw lines and use the text tool to manually type in lengths of combined panels I've drawn is a pain, even a simple measure tool that locks to object handles and adjusts as objects are moved and resized would be great, let alone being able to measure the length of curves.

The rectangle tool and the transform panel offer no ability to measure a curve… that’s the whole point of this post.

For one or two simple measurements between 2 points I use a 1990's kludge: Draw a box between them, or a line, and get the dimension off the Transform palette. Works with all 3 pgms.
But really Affinity, You should at least have a tape measure.

+1 for a measuring tool! Essential for laser cutting

I have not even opened Affinity because it does not give me dimensions.
Soft logic Pagestream had an inspector that draws all the dimensions of your drawing.
I used it for everything tho it was ostensibly a Desktop Publisher.

I'mma +1 this as well. I work side-by-side with our engineers, a measuring tool would be indispensable when they send cad drawings to have decals made.

So basically bring a bit of CAD into the apps, it's a shame the likes of Hot Doors CADtools (Illustrator Add-on) can't be made to work in Affinity Designer.

    Hi @SamSteele
I use Affinity for many different uses, from technical drawing, graphics, laser cutting through to pattern drafting for fashion garments...
Pattern drafting for fashion garments is the use that I particularly need a measurement tool for, as I need to measure the length of 1 curved line and match it to the length of another curved line (see image attached).
In illustrator there is a documents info window that shows you the length of any line no matter what its shape (see image).
I really wish Affinity would bring this option... it's a very simple tool but essential, plus I think affinity has the ability to bring this info in a more user friendly way that Ai's ugly, hidden window pane.

Yes, but no ability to measure a curved shape or line.

Measuring a straight line or a distance between 2 shapes is not a problem…
What we need is the ability to precisely measure a curved line.

    Sounds great to me.
just click on 2 points/nodes and the tool will tell you the distance of the line between them, regardless of the line shape being straight or curved.

Designer is all vectors/numbers anyway so it shouldn't be that difficult. The heavy lifting has already been done for the screen.

    @Callum,
It appears that the same seemingly arbitrary restriction is also being imposed on the Mac version.
This is highly unfortunate, particularly as the message states that PNG limits the resolution to that which is clearly untrue.  PNG uses an unsigned 32-bit value to hold each of width and height, so it can support images over 4.2 million pixels high and wide.
The message should be changed to read something more like "PNG support by this application is limited to images with dimensions no greater than..."
Otherwise you are lying to the user.

this modification to give more space to darker values does lead to wonky color maths when mixing the colors.
We can see this with the following experiment:

Left: Colored circles blurred in a regular sRGB space. Right: Colored circles blurred in a linear space.
Colored circles, half blurred. In a gamma-corrected environment, this gives an odd black border. In a linear environment, this gives us a nice gradation.
This also counts for color smudge brush:

That’s right, the ‘muddying’ of colors as is a common complaint by digital painters everywhere, is in fact, a gamma-corrected colorspace mucking up your colors. If you had been working in LAB to avoid this, be sure to try out a linear rgb color space.

We have taken hundreds of thousands of pounds during this sale, surely you can conceive that a very small percentage of those will have this standard problem, all at the same apparent time. Our sales are ridiculously busy and so this looks like a pattern of failure right now, but it is statistically no worse than normal given the high current level of sales. I appreciate it may not feel like that for anyone affected, but as you can imagine when there is any technical blockage to people giving us money we sort it immediately as we like the income. This slow refunding is completely out of our hands, as we never got the funds, but we appreciate you trying to purchase.
I hope that all the participants in this thread do eventually come back and confirm that their banks have refunded them, as has always been the case in these situations before. It is a shame when this has come up in the past how few forum members who experience this do return to confirm that it was all sorted as expected. If they did it would give you more confidence in our replies.

I would be happy  if  just their "procedural texture" filter could   sample different layers as inputs and re-map them using another layer input to deform UV.    Basic image editing operations actually.   So we could make our own displace. wrap, smear  filters .    Like wrap and directional wrap, slope blur  in Substance Designer.       Without those  few very basic features  even nodes wouldn't make much difference.
If they  can't make a useful live filters  why not give as a tool to make our own.
I'd love we could use Substance Designer export files as  live filters here but my guess Adobe would never allow this.

    Status: Beta
    Purpose: Improvements and fixes.
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
    Mac App Store: Not submitted
    Download ZIP: Download
    Auto-update: Pending

    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the second build of Affinity Photo 1.10.2 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.10.1 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Affinity Photo Team

    Changes Since Last Beta

    - Improved performance of the Infer LUT function.
    - Improved overlay paint / erase brushes in develop.
    - Fixed GPU instability introduced in last beta.
    - Fixed gradient midpoints when hardware acceleration is enabled.
    - Fixed crashes in the 32bit colour chooser.
    - Fixed issues with toggling “edit selection as layer”.
    - Fixed lighting filter UI issues.
    - Fixed spurious brush hardness when changing tools.
    - Fixed issues when refining and outputting as a new layer + mask.
    - Fixed refine selection shortcut not being persisted properly.
    - Fixed astrophotography stacking crash.
    - Assorted other small fixes.

    Changes Since 1.10.1

    - Performance improvements for all integrated GPUs. The benchmark version has been changed to 11020, as results are no longer comparable to results from previous builds.
    - Fixed artefacts when using the legacy shadows & highlights filter.
    - Further fixes to the patch tool in LAB mode.
    - Improve panorama stitching when source images have unusual metadata.
    - Improvements to aligning layers by stars.
    - Improvements to astro stacking when images contain large stars.
    - Fixed incorrect import of linear burn blend mode from PSD files.
    - Fixed issues with certain DNG files in the develop persona.
    - Fixes crashes opening certain EXR files.
    - Improved export quality when document contains certain live filters.
    - Fixed crashes with pattern layers.
    - Fixed saturation blend mode issues in 16bit RGB.
    - Assorted other fixes and improvements.
    - Localisation improvements.

As a limited workaround, you can adjust blend gamma on layer level.
create a new layer for every color, to keep it separate
set blend ranges, blend gamma to 1 (from 2.2)
This does not intend to weaken your feature request, i fully support it.
