I'm having the same issue with Photo.  I just lost about 11 gb of assets after a scheduled computer restart.  I thought that once the assets were added to the Assets Panel, they were saved for good?

Thankfully, I'd created an Assets Collection and exported the majority of them, but I have to do a ton of reorganizing on importing the collection, and then add about 1/3 of them back to the panel.

This looks like a redraw issue and shouldn't really affect export if possible could you provide a screen recording of you exporting the file with artifacting shown in the exported image? Could you also please try going into the apps preferences and under performance try changing the View Quality dropdown to see if this stops the issue at different zoom levels?

AAAaaaah!  Thank you Dan.  I was able to get it to work.  I wasn't selecting the nested layers and grouping them after creating the Symbol.  Works correctly now.

When creating a Symbol, or adding a new instance to your document, then by default you're only editing that specific symbol instance. If you want to change the size of your objects and have other Symbol instances copy these transforms, then you need to select the layers that are nested to the Symbol layer.
As you start with a Group, this is actually removed for the Symbol layer, however you can simply select all child layers of the Symbol and re-group them, then apply your transformations.

Hey Dan C and Anon.  I appreciate the replies.  I will try to provide some files for you very soon, and I will also try out the "merge down" command and see if that fixes my issue.  Thank for the help.

And don't worry about the delay.  None of this is world-shaking stuff I'm working on here.

Tried it in Windows. No, Perspective Efex doesn't work here, either. Error message said, "Entry Point Not Found ... DXGIGetDebugInterface1 could not be located dxgi.dll"
I did some searching with possible cures, but I've been down that rabbit hole before and had no time for it. I removed NIK 3 and will let others boldly go before me.
Interestingly (and frustratingly), NIK only says the following about compatibility (and grudgingly, I think):
"COMPATIBILITY WITH OTHER IMAGING SOFTWARE
"Nik Collection 3 works perfectly with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom Classic, and DxO PhotoLab, as well as a range of third-party image-editing software."

Merge Selected command in AP 1.8.3 (and the current 1.8.4 beta on macOS) merges layers into the first selected instead of the lowest selected, so select the lowest layer first, then the upper one, and then do the Merge Selected. Alternatively, just right-click the upper layer in Layers panel and pick Merge Down.

@tonyk11 I have been off for a few weeks and not checking the forums, so my apologies for not responding here until now.
Could you please provide me 2 sample files, one before you complete the merge operations, and one after merging?

It's likely the adjustments are affecting more than one layer, then when merging they only affect the layer they've been merged with, providing different visual results, but I'll need your documents to confirm this.

Generally I think that's a poor use for Assets, as all your assets are stored in one file, which makes it a performance bottleneck in the Affinity application and in the Windows file system in general, and fragile in the sense that any error in maintaining the file loses that copy of all the Assets. (As you noticed just now )
It also takes more storage in the file system, since you have that duplicate copy of the data, and it's harder to control where that file lives (which drive it's on) if that matters to you.
For things like JPGs and TIFFs I would just pull them from the file system via File > Place, and not use the Assets panel.
I think it's likely that it's the reason you're noticing performance problems.

Roughly how many asset categories, subcategories, and assets do you have in your Assets panel?
Also, what kind of assets have you added?
If you look in %Appdata%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\user what size is your assets.propcol file?

I followed the steps as listed.  It seems that this is the issue.  If I move my pen off the tablet, it seems I can no longer get access with the mouse.  Very strange.

I'm having the same problem as tonyk11, namely the programme freezing when using mouse/pen tablet. I'm colourising a black and white image and I can't be absolutely certain just when it freezes. I am a total newbie to Affinity and sort of feeling my way along, any help would be really appreciated.

Just to add to Chris's recipe: hovering the pen over the document again should restore mouse responsiveness.

Could you please confirm for me, what layers are you merging, following the defringe operation? Does this happen with any document, or only in the 1 example you're referring to?

Anyone experienced this? I had just loaded several assets in Designer, then I had a freeze on the app which I had to force quit it, and then my assets were gone after that.

Yes, I can no longer interact with the app with my mouse or pen tablet.  I am able to interact with keyboard shortcuts and such, but not the pointer tools.  I do not use a Wacom tablet, but I'll take a look at these preferences and let you know.  Thank you for your help.

Hey Chris B, I was able to capture the DMP file at the time of the crash this occurrence. I also got a SS of the task manager.  The DMP file is over 2.5 GB, though.  Is there another place I can attach it to get it to you?
