Affinity Designer 1.8.5.703 Symbol problem

Recommended Posts

Hey folks.  I am having trouble getting symbols to function.  I am following the instructions in the guide, but when I drag the symbol from the Symbols tab and drop them onto the page (I'm making business cards), they will not sync up for changes.  I have the "Sync" button pressed, but they do not sync up at all.  Any help would be appreciated.  I've watched YouTube videos, followed along and tried the steps, but I just can't seem to get them to work.  Is there some requirement for items that are grouped?  Do they need to be flattened or something?  I'm just stumped.  Thanks y'all.

Many thanks for your recording, this certainly helps!

When creating a Symbol, or adding a new instance to your document, then by default you're only editing that specific symbol instance. If you want to change the size of your objects and have other Symbol instances copy these transforms, then you need to select the layers that are nested to the Symbol layer.

As you start with a Group, this is actually removed for the Symbol layer, however you can simply select all child layers of the Symbol and re-group them, then apply your transformations.

Please see my below screen recording -

I hope this helps!
