Manofjesus reacted to nsam in ui font and icon size is really very very tooooooooooo ~~ small !!
I am very disappointed that Affinity doesn't let me scale the UI, making it completely unusable.
Even more am I shocked that they genuinely think this is a good decision and have no plans to change it. Honestly guys you must get 1000s of users who download the trial and never use it again because of this reason alone. It's baffling that you can't see the value for the user, and there's simply no valid argument against this.
I was really, REALLY looking forward to replacing the Adobe suite.
Just politely leaving my vote for the many others that don't bother.

Blender is a great example of a program doing a terrible thing.
It is ignoring all OS conventions and rolling its own user interface, making it inconsistent with EVERY operating system it runs on.
The only legitimate reason it could possibly provide for that is to ensure neutral grays for more accurate color judgement. That is the only reason that I would give it credit for, as most operating systems are lacking in providing for this requirement. I consider that a flaw of the operating systems which should be addressed so that applications with critical color judgement requirements can inform the OS as part of an application manifest or an API call and the OS would provide an appropriate neutral gray appearance which is otherwise consistent with the rest of the environment.
Other reasoning I have encountered is generally misguided. In particular, many developers cite a desire to keep the application consistent between operating systems. The problem is that a user of a computer is likely to use multiple applications, and it is more important that they be consistent with each other than that they consistent across operating systems - someone sitting at one computer and trying to use four different applications will find things that work four different ways and trying to juggle them while switching back and forth is not a good thing.
Don't get me wrong, I have blender installed all over the place and use it from time to time myself - it is a great program in terms of the functionality it offers - but the situation with the user interface is something that should not be emulated, except by video games and other immersive environments.
The use of configurable panels to lay out controls appropriately for the task is definitely a good thing. This is one area where Apple is making a misguided recommendation to avoid this. It makes some degree of sense for consumer-level applications to limit options to some degree, as more casual users may easily get lost wondering where something disappeared to when the visibility and positions of panels are easily changed, but for many professional applications they are largely a requirement.
This does not provide an excuse for the controls placed on those panels to defy OS conventions, including scaling. Other than the neutral gray issue, there is nothing that would prevent normal OS-provided controls from working in place of the highly custom ones Blender provides.
It would be better to design the app in such a way that this is not necessary, but if it is going to provide a global scaling feature, that is certainly the least problematic way to do it.
Yes, that is how things are. It is NOT how things should be. I think we are arguing two sides of a coin: I am indicating how I believe things should be, you are anchored in the messy situation of the unfortunate way things are (but should not be).
Different UI frameworks would be fine as long as they all ultimately followed the conventions established by the underlying OS rather than bypassing them.

--- I don't really care about arguments in favour or against, same font size or not, etc.
The fact is, I would very much like to use Affinity as an alternative to the overpriced Photoshop with its compulsory subscription.
But unfortunately, with Affinity I can only read the menu texts, menu elements or help texts with a magnifying glass in my third hand at best.
As long as this is the case, it is impossible for me to use Affinity. After all, I'm not a masochist.
With that, I'll end the discussion here for my part. At least as long as Affinity doesn't treat users like customers. -

Hi guys. I want to take part in help for Affinity Photo. Here is custom make grass brushes and example, that was made by me. If you have any comments or ideas to add/fix them - i will adjust/update them.
Each brush - it is not only one image, but at least 3 different variations of it. So when you draw - it draws in series 1,2,3,1,2,3,....like frames in movies - so the grass texture looks more natural and random.
The brush rotates according to drawing direction/route. If you don't need it - got to brush settings Dynamic/Rotation jitter - and set it to ZERO %
2017.12.24 - Version updated to 0.2. See attached pictures for explanations Also i attach small palette for green hues.
2017.12.18 - They are 4 brushes. First 3 - intensity brushes, and last one - image brush.

Manofjesus reacted to Sam Neil in Is AFFINITY dead?
I had no idea Pixelmator was like that but then again I am a Windows guy. I am more than happy to pay for Major upgrades but a subscription model is something I don't like and why I loath Adobe....
-
Manofjesus reacted to Optische Ausrichtung in Is AFFINITY dead?
A subscription model is nothing more than the compulsion to accept an offer. Eat or die.
Every now and then, a paid update in between is no problem if you can decide for yourself whether to accept the offer.
(In this point, however, Affinity has let us starve a little too long ... and perhaps itself too).
-
Manofjesus reacted to Intuos5 in Is AFFINITY dead?
Well, Clip Studio Paint has moved over to subscription this week and there has been quite some backlash over it. I and many other users don't like a subscription model, because it locks your files behind a paywall. If it co-exists with an affordable and reasonavle perpetual model, okay. But subscription only would definitely be a no-go show stopper for me.
It's been a little quiet for a while know on 2.0. I understand it needs a lot of work, but in terms of communication to the users it would at least be nice to publish some results from the questionnaire (even if no decisions were made on the basis of them). And then mention that these are user answers that do not reflect Serif's stance on the matter.

Manofjesus got a reaction from AHAM in Copy/Paste
Again, i understand idea to putting image to container. I appreciate such feature both - in PS and in AP. But i want to copy from such layer by my selected region with selection tool. This is straight plain and logical - this is plain common sense. The AP has just to virtually rasterise underlying image, copy some data from it according to my selection and then paste it - period. Why i need to make duplicate - > rasterise duplicated layer - > After copy and paste delete duplicated layer - why not to automate and hide all this steps from me in just COPY and PASTE way, as it is native in PS ?
-
Manofjesus got a reaction from AHAM in Copy/Paste
The behavior in PS - i can paste bitmap or or use PLACE... as container - no problem. And when i making selection and copying - no any limiting. I can copy and paste from this selection. And no matter the underlying layer is plain raster image or raster image in container (placed with command PLACE..) But in Affinity photo - what the reason to prevent copying in the same way? I want to leave the image as it is and don't want to rasterise it, but want to copy some portion from it - is it wrong idea or behaviour? Until i make command RASTERISE - it copy whole layer and ignoring my selection area. Also when i CUT i just completely removes layer - not selected region. If it not possible - why the AP allow me to use selection tool on this layer? This is non logical. Keep in mind - that for many users the AP is a step from PS.
