Joschi got a reaction from 4EverMaAT in Affinity Photo - Constrain drawing tools to straight lines
I have requested this same Tool a year ago in some other thread. Glad to see others having the same issue.
This is exactly what I need. Photoshop has it, Procreate has it, and even Krita and many other no name creative softwares are having this simple but powerful tool. Also the pen tool (Line mode) is not really intuitive and only works for the pen, not the brush. Too much clicking involved. If Serif would add such tool....they would get more attention from the digital artists community (not only them). Quick Lines with the brush tool would give us the possibility to set up complex drawings/compositions in a very short time. As you have maybe heard the news from procreate: they are now offering Quick Shapes...that is insane (positively) and useful. I'm using it myself. Of course, I do not ask for the same tool like Quick Shapes. Serif: we would be happy if you would just add quick straight line function to the brush tool (without needing to double-clicking, shifting, and whatsnot). That would be a great start. ^^

The one thing I would like to see in Publisher is the Calendar Wizard as was in the previous page plus applications.
I design and sell calendars and use this application to accomplish this to a certain extent to set the calendar months up.
Its the one feature that would make me buy Publisher. I use it for other design but calendars are the main reason

Hi, while I'm not on the beta, cryptomatte is a feature, I would really appreciate for postproduction of renderings. Would implementing this be possible?
For those who don't know this, it's a render output in exr format, that holds masks for all the objects/materials/special tags for the entire scene and is starting to become the standard for post-production in softwares like Nuke or Fusion, it's also become available for Photoshop users thanks to the EXR-IO plugin recently.
It would be great to have this in Affinity Photo as well.
    Cheers,
    Ivan

For those of you who have looked at Blender before and given up due to the bizarre UI, rejoyce!
2.8 has a totally new UI and, wait for it, now uses the left mouse button for selection.
    Old UI:

Yeah, cryptomatte in Photo would be really awesome. Since it already supports OpenEXR Multilayer, this would be the missing feature for 3D Post. I can build some kind of own cryptomatte with Material IDs in Blender, but thats cumbersome. Cryptomatte would make my life so much easier.

Yes.  I allready installed 2.8 after seeing the incReadible Preview of  the 2.8 Viewport..
Eevee is realy  a great tool as a viewport realtime rendersystem and also for many toon like renderings, that doesnt need photoreralistic  Vray irradiance cache light transport scattering wavelength baseed.... you name it..   algorithms..
The new interface also looks good.  But still the shortcuts feel like a bomb exploded in them.    The Modifier Stack isnt as advanced as max modifier stack, but does the job..  But we´ll see what  "everything nodes" will deliver to us.. esp. becaus modifier nodes maybe will implement modelling options, max could only dream of..  hope so..
Arr... have to stop here.. its not a  Blenderr forum...
But cryptomatte would be nice... in Affinity.

Yes, all true, excepting one thing: Next Gen wasn't the first feature length animation done in Blender. The same studio produced Ozzy with Blender in 2016. Even before this time Plumíferos, a feature length Argentinian animation film,  was released in 2010 in Argentina. (And before that the production team of Secret of Kells, released in 2009, used Blender for a number of scenes as well, but only for small parts.)
Anyway, yes, I wholeheartedly agree that Cryptomatte support in Photo would be great, but I am afraid it is too 'niche' for Serif to do so soon, if ever.
PS The Blender devs are finishing up "industry standard" mouse and keyboard controls, so you should be able to seamlessly transition from Max to Blender 2.8 soon. 2.8 is looking great!

    Yes..  and by the way..
Cryptomatte was develloped from a company, using Blender  that  had to compose massive stuff for the netflix animation film "Next Gen." It was the first time that Blender could proove, it is capable to produce featuere length animations. So while i am a Veteran 3Ds Max User,  i  get more and more impressed from Blender.
"Tangent Animation" the company who did this film, develloped Cryptomatte,  and because The whole idea of Blender is Comunity they gave it Back to the comunity..
Thats why so many Renderengines and Video Compositing Tools do have it now..
But i dont know any Image Editing Software that can use Cryptomatte..   So  Serif...  that would be your Chance..

For those who want to try this out for themselves, the upcoming Blender 2.8 (beta can be downloaded) includes Cryptomatte as well - for free! And with the built-in compositor it is easy to convert these cryptomattes to masks.
Download the 2.8 beta here: https://www.blender.org/2-8/

    Hi Everyone,
Maybe this is someting widely out of mainstream Wishes in Affinity Photo..  But maybe, maybe there are many other 3D Artists out there, that would like to see this..   So .. What do i wish..
I Would very much appreciate   "Cryptomatte"    its a fileformat, engeneered for Rendered images in 3D Programes, that have to simulate Reality..       In this FREE available File Format, all the conted of a 3D Rendering automatically produces Masks, and Channels for selectiing   "All" available Contend of the rendering...   all objects  you want, all materials,  What ever you need.
Point is, this process to produce all needed masks beforehand in 3D Applications was extremly cumbersome , slow , uggly...     But, now we have     CRYPTOMATTE...     Even Adobe hasnt got it..

Dear Develloper from Serif... if you would like to get all the 3D People on your Boat,.  .. implement it to Affinity Photo.   Even Adobe lucks of it. So this would be a great feature...
The following youtube video, shows how Vray one of the most advanced Rendersystems for 3ds max and also many other 3D Packages makes use of this format, which is.... As said free available.

Please have in mind, that this request is not about creating a straight line with two clicks, but about constraining the movement of your drawing tool while dragging it across the canvas. And that still does not work, unfortunately.

I also got the same mail from microsoft! That is so low! I'm personally not a fan of changing rules so quickly. To me this is really a low action from microsoft to extend the voting. I personally understand, if microsoft wants to extend the voting, but this should be a serious competition. This is not some kind of a drawing contest for 10 year olds, where rules are getting changed every time just to satisfy everyone!

I should calm down....the world has more severe problems than this

Joschi got a reaction from Clara Montseny in Version 1.6 - release?
2 Months ago you could read, that Serif was planning to release a beta (Publisher) in the 2. quarter. Meanwhile, they say just 2017. I'm just saying that between beta and official release are at least several months.
I can wait - no problem with that. It's just everyone is speculating about a possible release. Why not just take off some pressure (for the Team behind Serif) while not giving some room for speculation for anyone. The day you secretly announce your new product could be a better surprise-effect^^

I know Serif is trying their best to keep their products up to date. It's just, it's already July and there is still no official Version 1.6 - and Publisher.

If you can't make it in 2017, then please just change your statement on you homepage about Publisher beeing released as beta in 2017.

It is driving me nuts. And not only me - for sure.

How about changing the statement - just to take some pressure off.

Joschi got a reaction from supermundane in Staight lines with the Brush tool
But the Lines are always made of the last clicked point on the canvas - that's the problem I was talking about. And as you can see in the video ( from 2:18 - 2:21), in order to create a new line somewhere else on the canvas, you have to first create a "last clicked" Point, to create a line (you can see from 2:18 - 2:21, there is a green tiny dot - because of creating a last clicked point). So in reality, you do not have only a straight line, but also the dot you because you had to create a "last clicked point" in order to create a straigth line. That is useless, because it is not clean and accurate for drawing or painting - especially when your drawings are mainly (perspective) sketching. Look at Krita, and see their Line-tool. You will know what I and many other drawing/painting/sketching users mean by that.

This is what i meant. I don't want to create a straight line from the last point to the clicked one. It is inconvenience, slows down the drawing process and is very inaccurate, because you have estimate your A to B points in order to create a straight line (there is no useful cursor for that) I want to create several, if not hundreds single straight line - and it does no good, if a line is always created from the last clicked point.

This is exactly what I'm trying to tell them all the time what people who sketch a lot really needs. They don't understand, that the way how affinity now works to create straight line, is useless and very inaccurate. Not everyone wants to work with paths and polygons to create lines. There are many who just want to be able to create straight brush lines. They need to understand, that (especially in brush mode) there is a need for a own straight line tool. Their only answer regarding this is : "create  line by first click start- and second click end"

Oh trust me, that is why I use Affinity. I tried the new Photoshop CC (before that I had CS4) and it took me 15-20 seconds (sometimes 5 seconds more, If I added some new brushes or fonts to PS and restart it). Photoshop may have a wide range of functionality, great variety for plugins and works great with many other softwares.

But it's so incredibly bloated. The day Photoshop added huge 3D-functionalities, was the day I realized how greedy Adobe became, because of their desire to be involved in every kind of software that are out in the graphic/design market. They would rather buy that company or create it for themselves and would love to steal customers in a really bad way. That is pure naivety to me. If I want to create something in 3D - I go to 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, Blender etc. and not Photoshop (now, I understand, If people would love to create fast 3D-Typography within PS - that would be okay. But beyond that....you know it!)

Just an example, why I love a big range of different graphic design softwares and alternatives and also use (now mainly) Affinity - even If there is a lot to do. Serif is doing a great job and I will give them also enough time to blossom out in the industry. I know I whine a lot about some missing functions I would love to have. But Serif can take all the time they want. That is a company I think it is really worth the money. I'm sure: If we give them enough time, they will for sure solve the loading time in AD and AP :)

I understand that the Affinity range of products are relatively new compared to the likes of Photoshop, release dates aside, these applications we are told have been in development for many years prior to release, just like most software. Loading times are a major polish to a piece of software - but Serif from passed experience do not appear to have a large development team so I'm willing to give these guys a break and see what happens. I just hope that they focus polish and bug fixing, and not extra features for the time being.

Joschi, nice spec PC, but it's not a fair comparison for the majority of us. If I had your specs and Affinity didn't start any quicker I'd be using Photoshop.
