Alex_M got a reaction from IPv6 in Group & layer color tagging doesn't carry over when copied
The color tagging of groups and layers (at the bottom of the right click context menu) doesn't seem to carry over when these are copied from one document to another. Wouldn't it be better if it did? I find myself always having to tag them again when I bring over stuff from other documents.

Like title said. When switching between open documents, the OCIO Display Transform (ACES) bugs out and I have to switch to ICC/Unmanaged and back to OCIO to get correct colors.

Changes in 1.7.0 since 1.6.5
The changes in Affinity Photo for Windows 1.7.0 over the last Affinity Photo patch 1.6.5 (1.6.5 PK) are as follows:
Added support for EDR displays to Photo. When editing a 32-bit document. Brushes
Photo 1.7 introduces a new “sub-brush” mechanism, developed in conjunction with Paolo Limoncelli (DAUB® Brushes). This exciting feature allows any brush to have a list of other brushes attached which will draw at the same time. Each sub-brush has a fully separate and customisable set of dynamics. You can control when the sub-brushes are drawn and how they blend with the main brush. The brush engine in Photo has been improved. Symmetry (up to 32-way) is now supported - including on-canvas controls and optional mirroring. Wet edges and accumulation are now available on colour brushes and brushes with HSL variance. Brushes with multiple nozzle textures have always chosen the nozzle at random. In 1.7, the nozzle choice has a dynamic controller and ramp for greater control. All brush tools now support left and right arrow keys for rotation - a common feature request. Fixed ABR brush import (would ignore "random" controllers). RAW
The RAW processing engine in Photo has been rewritten - producing better results and improved performance. RAW files now load much more quickly. Reimplemented support for XTrans sensors. The denoise algorithm has been rewritten. It produces better results and takes advantage of the new GPU architecture. Hot pixel removal is now automatically performed by the Serif Labs engine. Profiled lens correction are more stable, apply more quickly, and can be toggled in the Develop UI. The histogram in the Develop persona is now presented in the output colour space - as opposed to always being linear. Develop now respects the output profile when previewing. Show which autofocus rectangles were in focus and which were selected by the camera (yellow, green respectively). A large number of new cameras are supported for RAW development (we will provide a list of the new supported cameras as soon as possible!). Filters
New “Procedural Texture” filter with advanced presets support. New “Voronoi” filter. Denoise, Clarity and Shadows / Highlights filters have been rewritten (using technology from the Develop Persona). More filters are now available as Live Filters - including the new Procedural Texture filter. Live filters have been rewritten to improve performance - especially when multiple filters are used in a document. Improved Polar to Rectangular and Rectangular to Polar filters. Added round dot type to the halftone filter. New “Lens Correction” filter - apply lens correction from the built-in lens database. Bilateral blur accuracy improvements. Adjustments
The HSL adjustment layer has been rewritten. It now supports custom hue ranges, a new algorithm, new UI and picker controls. The Levels adjustment layer now supports output levels - a common feature request. The White Balance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Selective Colour adjustment layer has been rewritten. PSD import / export of adjustments has been improved. The Vibrance adjustment layer has been rewritten. The Recolour adjustment layer has gained a lightness slider. Layers
Layers Panel - added option for transparent background for thumbnails. Layers Panel - added multiple thumbnail size options. Layers Panel- added ability to tag layers with a colour - including PSD round-trip. Allow adding an empty group from the Layer menu. New “Duplicate Selection” item in Layer menu (old behaviour). Duplicate now duplicate the whole layer ignoring pixel selection. Alt / Option is now used to make a pixel selection from layer luminance. You can now also hold shift to add the result to the current selection. Hide / Show / Show All Layers options in layers menu. Ability to either rasterise or rasterise and trim a layer. Previously recorded macros will trim. Selections
Significant improvements to selection refinement. When using selection tools with no pixel selection, default to New / Add as appropriate. Added “Alpha Similarity” to Select Sampled Colour tool. Tools
Grouped tool shortcuts now default to needing the shift key held to cycle (option in preferences). The Crop tool has been rewritten - it now supports resolution changes, absolute pixel size and has a much improved preset mechanism. The Sponge Brush tool now gives more correct / pleasant results. Allow brush rotate / size key changes while dragging. Added a “Reveal Canvas” checkbox to the crop tool - defaults to off. Added new “Transform object separately” mode into Move tool. A general tools overhaul has been performed - providing editing of grids, guides, page origin, across multiple tools (not just in the Move tool) Patch tool now supports arrow keys for rotate / scale. All brush tools can now be axis constrained once brush has started - not just the pixel tool. History
“Alternate futures” for document history have been added. Traditionally, if you roll back the undo history then do something else all your changes after that point are lost. Photo will now display a small branch icon in the history tab when you do this. Pressing that button will cycle between all the different “futures” after that history entry - meaning you will never lose work you have done. The History page now has an “advanced” mode - which shows thumbnails and time info. I/O
HEIF images can now be loaded directly into Photo. If they contain a depth map, this will also be loaded as a second layer. Because depth maps are typically lower resolution than the main image, optional “smart” upsampling will be performed. TIFF export now has user selectable compression method. Added support for 12bit TIFF files. Introduced new metadata mining - completely rewritten to improve performance, flexibility and correctness. Metadata is now dynamically synchronised with your document - so if you resize then export, the values will be correct. Added Focal Length to metadata summary view. Added a button in general preferences to open a folder from which Photo will read LensFun-style XML files - if users wish to add / experiment with their own lens profiles. Support 16bit CMYK TIFF import. General
New ability to control how macros are scaled / aligned when playing back. Added an “Assets” panel to Photo. New cube setup mode for grids. Add “Fill with Primary / Secondary” to the Edit menu for fast access. The batch process dialog now fully supports expressions for height and width - available constants are “w”, “h” and “dpi”. “Lock guides” added to menus. Support for drag dropping .afstyles into Photo. Support for drag dropping .afpalette into Photo. Photo now supports custom document presets - a popular feature request. A new blend mode - Linear Burn - has been added. New “Move inside / outside” commands have been added - useful for quick operations on clipping masks etc. The Hard Mix blend mode has been improved. New provider options have been added to the stock panel - support for Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay. All of these providers offer full-resolution stock imagery which is free to use. Numerous text improvements have been made - including new features. Significant stability improvements when working on non-local files (network shares, USB drives, etc.). Significant PDF import / export improvements and fixes. Huge macro and batch processing improvements. New welcome screen layout and all new samples. Numerous other bug fixes - too many to list!? This thread is for commenting on this announcement. Please do not post bugs or problems that you find when using this version of the software in this thread, instead make a new thread in the Photo Bugs on Windows section and questions about usage go in the Desktop Questions forum.

I agree with the Drag & Drop to Focus Merge. I use this feature a lot and have to go through sub-folders to "Add" the images I'm already looking at. What is especially frustrating is that AP doesn't remember the last folder I pulled from, so the folder hunt starts all over again when I Focus Merge the next collection from the camera.
I really love Affinity Photo and hope to see Drag & Drop to the Focus Merge window. I can Drag & Drop photos to the main window, but that creates new tabs for each image.

Hi Uncle Mez, Ed Halley,
This is not a bug but an improvement request. The app wasn't designed/coded to accept files from Finder on batch job, focus merge and similar dialogs. Thread moved to Feature Requests section.
Welcome to Affinity Forums
Alex_M reacted to Ed Halley in Batch Job: Cannot Drag and Drop !
I have the same complaint about the "merge" dialogs such as New Focus Merge. They start with a big happy box in which you could easily drop files. But if I have to click Add, I have to navigate back to a folder I already see in the other window, and have to find and select the exact same images I was thinking about before.
Support Drag and Drop.
[Sorry, I just realized this is a Beta-specific forum, which I found with a search. This can be moved wherever appropriate.]

I don't know if this is a bug or something else as i didn't worked with the batch function before but i've found that it is not possible to drag & drop photos from the Finder to the Batch Job window.
it is only possible to put files there by clicking add and selecting desired files.
if it is a bug Please Fix (it will make life even easier)
if it is a missing feature then sorry for posting here (i just hope you will make it happen)
Alex_M reacted to MEB in New version - will be this year?
Hi J a n,
If you were using the Beta all this time, then no, its major improvements/features were already announced quite some time ago, so users/beta testers who wish to test them could do so. But for most regular users, using the retail version (which is v1.6) all these features are new. Affinity Photo 1.7 wasn't officially launched yet and exists only as a beta version.
This 1.7 cycle took more time than usual because we had to ensure fully integration with the upcoming Affinity Publisher (which will complete the suite's foundation). After Publisher's release you should see upgrades/new features more frequently since most complex work was already done.
Alex_M got a reaction from agnesim in Please put "Rasterize to Mask" in Layers panel context menu
+ This would be so handy! Please don't forget to make this work for selections of more than 1 layers! Currently, if I want to rasterize many layers, I have to do this on each layer one by one which is quite tedious.
Alex_M reacted to Tupaia in Please put "Rasterize to Mask" in Layers panel context menu
Simple one, as the title says.
It's strange enough (for long-time Photoshop users) that masks are obviously not simply greyscale images. For convenience, please at least don't 'hide' that conversion feature in the Layer menu, but put it also in the RMB context menu of the layer panel.
Alex_M reacted to Mark Ingram in Beta update?
I'm really not sure why you're all discussing this. We have never given out ETA on releases / patches / betas, etc (and never will, for obvious reasons). I realise you may be excited to try out the new version as an official retail release (or even get a new beta update), but complaining about slow development is not an accurate thing to say. The Windows version has massively improved performance in the most recent betas, and we continue to add new features, and fix bugs as we go. The time period between releases does not reflect the amount of work that is happening, it merely reflects the time delays between when I make a build, how it gets on with internal testing, and then when I release it to the public. We have builds that are never released onto the forum (which happened last week, build #308 crashes on Windows 7, so it was never released externally).
And with regards to GPU Compute, yes it's something that's on my roadmap, but the complexities of implementing this on Windows are far greater than macOS. macOS has one GPU manufacturer, and Apple are in control of the drivers (you get the latest ones automatically). Windows has at least 3 GPU manufacturers, and the drivers are in a variety of different states and ages - we see that from bug reports here on the forum (i.e. crashes that are solved by merely uninstalling and reinstalling your GPU drivers).
Aside from GPU Compute (and ability to load RAW files via Apple RAW engine), there are no feature differences between the macOS and Windows versions.
Alex_M reacted to nezumi in Beta update?
I also have this desire to have a new version ASAP - specially when I know its packed with some good, new features - just like 1.7 seems to be. But lets keep in mind one really important thing - something that I cant stretch enough. The outstanding level of integration between Affinity software. You can open file from Designer inside of Photo and see no difference - vectors are still vectors, all looks practically the same. I havent used Adobe software for over 2 years now but I remember opening AI file inside of PS was very limited and lot of objects was rasterized loosing ability to be edited and scaled properly. Knowing Adobe it didnt changed. In my opinion Affinity really shines when it comes to integration.
Now, we are getting whole new software to the Affinity family and I am willing to bet devs are working on similar level of integrity. Can you imagine the complexity of that task? Not only we have lots of new tools in each of the existing programs, the whole new software but also integration between them. It surely needs lot of work, lot of time to be done properly.
Properly... Thats another thing.
Affinity is fighting for a position on the market and the fight is (mostly) against massive corporation named Adobe. Affinity just cant afford half-assing their product for the big day of introducing new software to the family. Rushing would be silly and would surely backfire. Publisher might convince many people to jump ship.
In the meantime Adobe is working hard to help Affinity by threatening owners of old licenses with possible lawsuits if they do not join "The Almighty Cloud". Unbelievable. You bought the license, but they just want to force people into monthly pay no matter what.
That comes shortly after news that they are "testing" new price for Photography Plan - which is basically "lets double the price, we were too generous. Lets squeeze that $10 more MONTHLY". The geniuses of marketing.
So while we are watching Adobe shooting their feet repeatedly we need to be patient. Devs need to make it right. I have no doubt that Affinity may become new "industry standard". In fact I already planned on purchasing Publisher solely to support company. I dont really need it all that much. Maybe occasionally for tables. And if I need to wait bit more to get great 1.7 - so be it. Working on current versions just fine for now.

I can see this has been reported previously against the Canon 80D where similar blue tones were being incorrectly over-saturated resulting in the purple/white area of the image, visually similar to your report. 1. easy to do and allready halfway implemented: shortcut to deselect pixelmasks from the Layerstack... affinity allready put in the short cut to cmd+shift+lmb click on a Layericon to select ! Additive ! like in Photoshop layer masks. So you dont have to add them one by one in the spare channels...
but to deselect from a selecttion the shortcut is still missing..
2. embedd linked pdf files, but give the option to link the rasterised version also whithout loosing the link to the original pdf file... this would ease the workflow for thousends of Architects.. they never need the option to tweek single lines in theire floreplan CAd to pdf prints, they import to photo... its just done by far easier inside the cad applicatieon... but still an imported pdf from a cad file should be linked not only embeded, also when it is rasterised.
3. still speedimprovements for large documents needed... here photoshop still excels over affinity photo.. dont know wasnt it told, affinity is still working on gpu speed booosts ?

We changed our TIFF compression in the beta. There is now an option on macOS to change the TIFF compression to LZW which should resolve this. We're just waiting for the fix to come to Windows.
We're also on build 258 now so you might want to consider updating from build 250
