Kodiak got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Colours in Document
I would like to have only the colours I use in the
actual document to show in the swatch tool.
This is so non intuitive!

This is breathtaking!
The car, the BG, light direction and highlights are all
very convincing to me.
I know I'm just a photographer in a vector world but
my eye tells me the wheels reflections… maybe…

Introduction.
Since some 10 days, I'm going around (not fast nor far!) with
a set of crutches after a severe fall in an icy outdoor stairway
that twisted my left ankle. —"That 's a good one"… said the
surgeon, "No need to operate though that will nail or slow you
down for some time, I'm afraid!"
Yesterday, I couldn't stand it anymore. I asked a friend to
help me put the wildlife gear in the car and drive me to
the marsh for a couple of hours.
Do you remember this girl (young female Mandarin duck) who grabbed
my heart in the middle of December?
Though I was hooked in a rather platonic affair, she broke my heart… but
I'm happy for her… I had the feeling that this romance had no future.
Followed in the next post…

Kodiak got a reaction from jfleeman in Just tried de-haze
— "Free Software: NIK collection, Sony CaptureOne9, Cyberlink PhotoDirector6, Hugin, ImageJ, MS Ice, DaVinci Resolve"
Hello rmar,
In that list, Capture One v.9 for Sony is your better bet…
by far, IMO! I use the Pro version as my gear is Nikon.
RAW processing is no magic and, quite like Affinity for
the quality and diversity, CO9 has lots of tutorial videos
readily available on their site. I recommend CaptureOne
to all my students and none is thinking of any other for
multiple files processing. Though I never do so, it can
work in catalogue mode as well, but I prefer in sessions.
If you have just a single file to process, Affinity Photo is
an other option. It has become my main pixel editor.
Since all my shoots produce a fair number of files, as con-
verter and with it's in the actual limitation, I prefer to use
a dedicated RAW converter that will permit faster processing
of all these sessions.
Workflow? DRL* and WB are the two first steps.
* DRL = Dynamic Range Levels = black and white points setting.
Have a good time!

…‘abend Pollux!
My suggestion to charlychuck was to propose
an other strategy as I thought that "haze" was not
the guilty point in this case but exposure.
I just treated the picture for exposure difficulties
and nothing else. My point was to illustrate this.
…'verstehe, aber…
IMO, as much as I dig the dehaze tool, it is not the
proper approach to resolve the exposure problem
nor is it the right file to explain it… though you did
demonstrate it well!
— It is now to charlychuck to appreciate, evaluate
the results and the strategies… no right no wrong,
just options. :)

Kodiak got a reaction from jfleeman in Just tried de-haze
I personally have no ego issue in this as I propose a
strategy, an approach to the rendition and I explain why.
— "Looks terrible, too"
You're right in this! This is no more adjustments to a file but heavy
exposure repair!
— "…perfect proof that the job doesn't finish at the converter..."
So, that one really did hurt, right?
I said that MY photographer's work ends in the converter and I
maintain it. For publishing purpose, the clients may do what is
ever needed (they should know, they bought it!)

Kodiak got a reaction from SrPx in AP, best way to convert from rgb to cmyk?
CMYK is mainly used when sending to a 4 colour rotary-press printer.
For photo printing, RGB is the right colour space.

Right, so am I!
…and, very early after I registered, I noticed that too.
I got the idea to add "AP" in front of my threads titles.

Coooool, very much so!
As a photographer, I miss the shy presence of a front glass.
And, just FYI, good lenses have min. 9 blades… I wouldn't
want yours to be said "cheap"! ;)
-
Kodiak got a reaction from Franklin in AP, best way to convert from rgb to cmyk?
I'm impressed by your opened attitude!
I'm also impressed by instructors omitting to
mention the great importance and limitations
of CMYK.
As most my work (65%) is directed towards
publishing/printing, the ins and outs of CMYK
are an integer part of my workflow.
-
Kodiak got a reaction from Franklin in AP, best way to convert from rgb to cmyk?
A 4 rotating cylinder machine that prints 4 colours successively and very quickly!
Maybe. In my office, I do have a colour jet printer for CMYK. But I think the printer dri-
ver converts the RGB files on the fly prior
to printing.
-
Kodiak got a reaction from Franklin in AP, best way to convert from rgb to cmyk?
The CMYK style is for printing greater quantities of copies
in the shortest time… like books, magazines, flyers etc.
Jet printers do a better job at printing when in 4 colour
separation. Don't forget that this implies a substrative
light viewing as RGB is additive.
As said, inkjet printer drivers can handle both so no real
need to conversion.
