Lucky MattP & Chris B! Mine is somewhere on a boat on the Atlantic Ocean trying to get to the USA.

[Okay, I know it is probably airmailed but on-a-boat seemed more dramatic - it is a cartooned character novella, after all.]

However, on the Tool Bar find the Mesh Tool, click the pull-out triangle and you can then select the Perspective Tool. This Tool has a dialog box in which you can drop down the Planes field and chose Dual Planes. This opens up a lot of possibilities but, sadly, I don't know how it works. I just know it affects multiple sides of your object. You will need to experiment or find a tutorial because I don't know...
    How to control it,
Does it work on pixels or just vector objects,
Can it help Lars or not?
    :)

This looks like a fantastic children's book. I think it would be great for my 2-yr old grand-twins, one of which loves monkeys! (The other is leaning toward cats). Put me down for a copy, please. It is fun to know it is produced with such quality by the same software I use.

If you want "pure" vectors don't use the noise feature in your shapes, it's simple. Noise from the color property is dynamically generated on screen at the best possible display resolution and rasterized on export at your doc's resolution. Don't get bent up because AD offers a unique feature from AI; you don't have to use it if it doesn't suit your needs...
Alternatively, you can set ur colors to have no noise and instead find a "vector noise" texture, but it won't look right if you scale it... it will look like giant dots... everything has benefits and a drawbacks; choose wisely my friend ;)

That is a fun result! How many hours did you work on it in AD after your sketch was imported? Just curious.

    So...

After a few trials and errors, I have the 3rd proof back from the printers. Ohhh My Strawberry Monkey started a little while back as single comic strips but felt it wasn't the right direction. So its turned into a Children's book (under 5's) it's aimed at pre-schoolers.

There is so much more to the story and I'm sure I'll tell it one day. I wrote and put the book together in Affinity Designer and yes I'm looking forward to publisher, which no doubt would've helped but it worked.

Anyway, the next step is to send a copy to a few publishers and I'm also considering self-publishing.

There will also be a few copies available, so you lucky people get to experience the first, (hopefully) in a series of many.

So if you've got young kids and would like a copy leave a comment...Thinking of you Matt P and Chris B...

(Is this also the first Children's book to come out of Designer?)

A vector illustration -There are no 'Pixel Persona' layers in this one because I removed them. They didn't seem to add anything worthwhile to this image. There are a few textures though -the main one being a photograph of one of the sandstone paving slabs on my patio. Another thing about the working file is that after a few raster images were added, the file became quite sluggish to work with. I'm not sure if I'm approaching this the wrong way. Since it's vector, perhaps I didn't need to create the file at 300dpi? Some advice is needed for that.

I started with a sketch in Pixel Persona -that really is a great function of AD. I find it very useful.

    Best wishes,
    Kevin

What I like about many of the tuts at Tuts+ is they are printed steps not videos. Videos certainly have training advantages and thanks to all those experts who have created them for Affinity. But I do get tired of pausing and backing up and saying to the vid, "What did you just click to get that?" Anyway, here is one right up your alley by Kevin House whose picture appears every time you open up Affinity Designer:

This one will likely answer many of your questions about the process of going from a sketch to a vectorization and will lead you through it step by step.

jer reacted to wan in Affinity Designer for Windows: Initial Impressions
I've always been interested in Affinity ever since designers have popularised it as a strong alternative to Adobe products, but I'm a Windows user primarily. I got excited when I knew of Affinity's Windows beta programs, but I'm not much of a beta tester, so I waited.

When I heard Affinity released its final Windows version of Affinity Designer, I obviously went straight ahead and purchased it. I have to say I am blown away by the amount of features I am getting for the price tag!

My initial assumptions was that Affinity Designer was geared more towards UI/UX Layout design specifically, and definitely far too early in its days to be considered an Illustrator alternative.

To my surprise, it seems to have a strong workspace for digital illustrators and artists as well, much to my delight, since I am a digital illustrator myself.

Either way, I just wanted to commend Serif on their good work, which from my personal perspective, is an indirect form of fighting against the monopoly Adobe has over the design industry.

Two things I love about Affinity Designer right off the bat:

    1) The speed
    2) The price tag to features ratio (the additional 3 pack plugins were awesome as well!)

I really am impressed. Such an excellent alternative. Thank you so much!! I look forward to learning a lot more and upgrading in the future :D :D :D

    Try these steps, jer:

    1. Load the image and choose the Crop Tool
    2. On the Context toolbar, set the mode to 'Absolute Dimensions'
    3. Drag the top left-hand corner up and to the left to add 20px to each dimension
    4. Drag the bottom right-hand corner down and to the right to add 20px to each dimension
    5. Press 'Apply' to apply the crop

Please keep in mind that the Affinity products are being developed from an entirely new code base that has nothing in common with the older Serif products, so the older ones have not in any practical sense "paved the way" for any feature in the new ones.

The reason for this "clean slate" approach is it allows developers to take advantage of 64 bit API's & advances in technology that did not exist or were not mature when the old "legacy" code base was being developed. The result is lighter weight, cleaner code that is more efficient, uses fewer system resources, is easier to maintain, & much more responsive to user input. More computational tasks can be handed off to lower level API's built into the OS. "Under the hood" things like sandboxing, virtual memory management, & so on that modern OS's already provide don't have to be duplicated in application level code.

This is why Affinity can do things like realtime previews of layer effects, does not need a "scratch disk" like PhotoShop does to handle very large image files, & does not install a zillion support files to support a bunch of proprietary legacy API's, some of which are decades old, like Adobe still does.
