  1. WOW!!! I'm very impressed. I would never have dreamed of taking a silhouette picture and turning it into the kind of detailed drawing that you created. Thanks for posting it and the inspiration you have given me.
  2. If I understand you correctly, you are trying to do a stroke selection the way photoshop does it. I think this might work for you. You must have an active selection with the marching ants for this to work (I think), 1. With your selection active, go to the Select menu>outline 2. Make your settings as you like from the dialog box 3. Fill your outline with the Flood Fill Tool.
  3. I have wondered about Photo calling it the Gradient tool and Designer calling it the Fill tool. Perhaps one of them should be renamed for more consistency across the applications. ;)
  4. Hi Connie, I agree with Madame in that it would probably be best to just import your rough sketch. Create a new layer and trace your final sketch using the pen tool or other tool you prefer. Another option to try. Go to Select menu>Color Range>Select Reds. Marching ants will be applied to the red pixels. Press delete key. Red is gone!
  5. Thanks Alfred, I wasn't aware that "File name extensions" checkbox even existed. You were a big help on that.
  6. When I do export it says nothing but "Affinity Files" in the save as dialog. It shows no filename type. See screenshot below.
  7. Patrick, I don't think you understand what the original poster meant. :) Here is what happens for me. Affinity Designer or Affinity Photo for windows 1. I want to save my document as something other than an Affinity file, so I choose Export and choose a file type like jpeg (or any other file type). 2. Choose export at the bottom of the dialog box. 3. At the bottom of the save as dialog box the only option for file type is Affinity files. I would expect it to say jpeg since this is what I originally chose as file type to export as. It does still save it as a jpeg, but it says it is saving as Affinity file. I think this is a bug in both programs.
  8. When using the flood select tool and wanting to select non-contiguos portions of the image, the spot to turn on non-contiguos is nearly invisible. I would expect a check box or at least some text on the target spot identifing it as non-contiguos. Is this a bug?
  9. Hi Mark, I tried your response on the above file and it worked great. I'm just curious why it is a preference vs. on all the time. Is it a performance issue or something like that?
  10. 1.5.0.12 still has the fill changed when stroke is selected with the fill tool(G), just like I have reported twice before since version 1.5.0.7.
  11. @Mark Ingram So do you and Serif say that DPI and PPI are the same thing? The reason I ask is I was taught that DPI has nothing to do with the resolution of an image. All DPI has to do is with printer resolution. Printers spray little dots onto the paper and the more dots it sprays, the better quality the printed image is. If you look at a printed image with a powerful magnifying glass, you can see the dots on the paper. PPI is for screen image resolution. If you zoom in on your image, you can see the little squares that are the pixels. More pixels per inch make a larger file size, but also make a higher quality image. You can have a high quality 300 PPI or 600 PPI or even 1200PPI image and print it on a poor quality 150 DPI printer and it will only have 150 DPI printed on the paper. Now, when we start talking about raster vs. vector, is where I get confused. If I understand correctly, the PPI of my image doesn't matter as long as it is vector and saved as vector such as svg or pdf etc. The only time the PPI of my image matters is if I am saving it as a raster or bitmap image such as jpg or png etc. Can you clear this up or refer me to some articles that would explain it?
  12. +1...this is an effect that can help a lot to make lines look less digital and more like hand drawn lines.
  13. Smooth curves does not work properly 1) Draw a pencil line and change to node tool. 2) Click on smooth curves. Curve does not smooth. All it does is add more nodes.
  14. Alignment is not acting as I would expect it to. I would expect to have some way to choose a candidate to align to, but I don't see any way to choose. 1. I created 3 rectangles and defined their left edges with a guide line. See 1st screenshot. 2. I selected all 3 rectangles. It doesn't appear to matter which order they are selected. 3. I choose align center from the top tool bar. 4.AD moves all 3 rectangles and centers them up on the green one as can be seen by looking at the guides. See second screenshot I must be missing something. This can't be right, can it? There has to be some rhyme or reason as to which rectangle they align to. It shouldn't move all 3 of them. What if I wanted them center aligned on the red rectangle. How would I do it? It is also weird how it does align left or align right. If I choose align left they all align to the left edge of the orange one. If I choose align right they all align to the right edge of the red one. What if I wanted them aligned left or right to the green one? Align top or align bottom is similarly messed up as well. Is there supposed to be a method to choose which one they align to?
  15. When I double click on a docked panel, it collapses. I like working with the layers panel undocked so I can extend its length and be able to see more of what is in it. Ocassionaly, the layers panel is in the way and I want to collapse it. In previous versions of the beta, double clicking on the undocked layers panel would collapse it. In version 1.5.0.8, double clicking does not collapse the layers panel. I have included an image of how I position the layers panel.
  16. I would like a spiral tool also. Thanks
  17. If I select edit>preferences>user interface and change the UI Gamma, the tools in the left toolbar do not show which one is selected anymore. I have to close AD and start it again to get the tools to highlight again.
