I saw this the other day with the Assets Panel (or something very similar) but was unable to reproduce it after a restart. Are you still seeing this? Development have done some work with panels recently so we're hoping to see a fix in the next beta.

I think the issue is in part due to the length of the visible macros names when the program is closed.  I've also updated THIS post regarding the similar issue with the Assets panel.

Steps to reproduce the issue below:

IM IN! it mustn't have been complete, but I couldn't re-download earlier as the internet at work was quite slow. Its weird that it hadn't been completed as usually the icon isn't present if not complete.

Anyway thanks - I think a fresh download has resolved it.

I've been trying to reproduce this issue for a while now on different browsers, but no matter what I try, I've been unable to corrupt the file download.  Therefore I'm not sure what's causing the browsers to sometimes say that the file download is complete, when it isn't.

Can you confirm that this was with Edge that is built into Windows, and not the new Chromium-Edge beta?  Also, do you have any third-party antivirus software installed on the machine that is possibly doing HTTPS man-in-the-middle inspection?

  3. In your original screenshot there was a problem with the digital signature.

It was showing "Publisher: Unknown Publisher".  It should say "Verified Publisher: Serif (Europe) Ltd".

Try re-downloading the Affinity Photo installer file from the Serif website link below and see if you still have the same issue:

Let me first say that it was a real privilege to watch the Affinity Live presentation last night and to witness the obvious enthusiasm and vision of Serif in creating and marketing such a comprehensive suite of interactive products.  I own all three and am delighted with them, though am far from being a power-user.

However, one thing struck me quite forcibly last night: all the demonstrations in the presentation were running on either Mac or iPad.  There was considerable time spent extolling the obvious benefits of e.g. using Metal to improve graphics speed and performance.

I think I heard the word "Windows" once.  It would have been very reassuring to be told that similar improvements in performance were also coming to Windows, or did I miss something???

I should add that I am also delighted that Affinity products are truly cross-platform, even though I don't own a Mac or an iPad, but it would be "helpful" to learn that we Windows users are not being forgotten in the striving to create a top-notch graphics/publishing/photo suite. 9_9

I thought the same.  When watching Microsoft videos, I see them use Macs, IOS devices, Android devices, Linux, Chrome, Alexa.  To me this makes sense; if you're providing a product or service that uses those platforms, why wouldn't you talk about them and include them in the presentations.

With the Metal segment, as far as I'm aware Metal is just a graphics API like DirectX 12 or Vulkan.  So I don't understand why they wouldn't include a comment that they're also currently working on off-loading more to the GPU in Windows too—but that it's going to take longer to implement due to the larger variation of devices/GPUs/drivers that they need to consider.  It seemed a bit odd to completely ignore a large chunk of their user base throughout the keynote as if they didn't exist.

Hi, New to this forum but I have just downloaded the latest version of both Designer and Publisher which I am trying to get to grips with after learning Page Plus etc..

A window appeared saying that the apps were not Microsoft Approved and wanted me to go to the App shop to buy one!  I clicked on 'Load anyway' but it is a glitch of some sort.

I haven't seen this dialogue, however I suspect it's possibly due to a setting in Windows settings.

If it is, you should be able to disable this setting by going to [Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & features] and setting the 'Choose where to get apps' dropdown to 'Anywhere'.

  6. The error message says "Supported Windows version not found".  Therefore go to [Windows Settings > System > About] and check what "Version" of Windows 10 you are using?

Affinity Photo 1.7 requires Windows 10 version 1607 or higher, however you should be using a later version of Windows than that, as Windows 10 1607 is end-of-life. Only Windows 10 1803 and newer are still supported by Microsoft (excluding enterprise or education, where their support lifecycles are a bit longer).

Therefore, if you are on an older version of Windows 10 (such as Windows 10 1511), then I'm not sure why your machine hasn't updated to a newer version by itself.  So in which case, go to [Windows Settings > Update & Security] and click the "Check for Updates" button.

    - If clicking the "Check for Updates" button shows an error, then I would search online to see what could be causing the issue.

    - If clicking the "Check for Updates" button says that you're up to date, I would download and run the "Windows 10 Update Assistant" from the below link and follow the prompts, where it will check for compatibility and download/install a newer version.

I have run all of the updates, this was done before tyring to upgrade affinity

The version of Windows 10 you are using (1511) is end-of-life and has been since October 2017—therefore it's not up-to-date.  What do you see when you go to [Windows Settings > Update & Security > Check for Updates]?  Does it actually say that you are up to date, or does it show an error?

If it shows an error, I would search online to see what could be causing the issue.

  8. The Macro Library panel is sporadically wrapping the macro name text too early.

Sometimes the text is all on one line (as it should be), sometimes it wraps to two lines, and sometimes it’s even worse—like a very narrow column on the left-hand side of the panel.  The text should use the full width of the panel.  See below screenshots.

    Affinity Photo – 1.7.0.367

  9. The Assets panels cuts parts off.

    Issue 1:

When viewing the Assets panel with ‘Show as List’ enabled, sometimes the text is cut off. See below screenshots.

    Issue 2:

When viewing the Assets panel with ‘Show as List’ disabled, the thumbnails are partially cut off. See below screenshot.

  10. When changing Document Units in the New Document dialogue from millimetres to pixels, it doesn’t display the correct pixel numbers. It uses the DPI from the previous setting for the calculation (in my example 72 DPI), when it should be using the new setting (300 DPI).

When the document is opened however, it opens with the correct pixel dimensions.

    For example:

    The A4 preset shows as 841.9 × 595.3 pixels, when it should be 3507.9 × 2480.3 pixels.

    The A2 preset shows as 1683.8 × 1190.6 pixels, when it should be 7015.7 × 4960.6 pixels.

    Steps to reproduce:

    Affinity Photo - 1.7.0.367

In the 1.6 version on Windows, it was also necessary to switch to the node tool to reshape a curve.

I think you're possibly misunderstanding the OP.  I'm on Windows and I noticed the same change as the OP.  Perhaps you're thinking about the handle nodes rather than the main node?

In 1.6, if you go back into a shape you created with the pen tool, with the pen tool still active if you click and drag a node it will re-draw the curve.

In 1.7, if you go back into a shape you created with the pen tool, with the pen tool still active if you click and drag a node it creates a new curve, rather than modifying the current one.

So now in 1.7, you have to select the node first, then click and drag to redraw the curve.  For one node that may be fine, but if you're doing lots, the old way was quicker.  I've seen a few people use the OP's technique; instead of clicking and dragging as they go, they plot the main points with sharp nodes to get the rough shape, then go back and click and drag to refine the nodes afterwards.  So now, instead of just clicking and dragging the nodes, they have to CTRL + click each node first to select the node, before they can click and drag.

  12. That's normal, but I don't like it either.

It's to do with how the wet edges were set when the brushes were created.  The default Affinity Photo brushes quite often have the 'Blend Mode' set to 'Don't Set Blend Mode' and 'Wet Edges' set to 'Don't Set Wet Edges'.  This means they inherit settings from whatever it was set to before.

So in your case, when you switch to a brush that has 'Wet Edges' set to 'Set Wet Edges On' and then select another brush that's set to 'Don't Set Wet Edges', the wet edges stay on, as that was the previous setting.  Only turning it off in the brush context tool bar, or switching to a brush that has 'Wet Edges' set to 'Set Wet Edges Off' will disable wet edges.

I think all brushes should really have a Blend Mode and Wet Edges actually set (rather than leaving them on 'Don't set…'), so that they always draw as the creator of the brushes intended them to.  Then the user can either temporarily override the setting using the settings in the brush context tool bar, or if it's something they use often, create a new brush based off the original brush, but with their own 'Wet Edges' or 'Blend Mode' settings.

Took Patrick's suggestion and reloaded the download file. I did check the File Properties and it seems to be the correct/full file: 351,704, 336 bytes. However, when I attempt installation, I still get the "incorrect Windows version" message. As I said before, my Win10 info is: Windows 10, Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.318)

Not sure what my next step should be.

Windows 10 1511 has been end-of-life and out of support since October 2017.  Only Windows 10 1803 and newer are still in support (excluding enterprise or education, where their support lifecycles are a bit longer).

I'm not sure why your machine hasn't updated to a newer version by itself, however you will need to update to a newer version of Windows 10.  I would try going to [Windows Settings > Update & Security] and clicking the 'Check for Updates' button.

  14. Your afdesign file is white and grey when I open it.

If you install the Affinity Designer 1.7 Beta alongside your current version (the latest beta can be downloaded from the pinned topic HERE), does the afdesign file display correctly (white and grey) in the beta version?

If not, if you open a new blank document in your non-beta version, is the document background pure white, or does it have a yellow colour cast as well? If it has a yellow colour cast, then see my post in the below thread:

Part of my workflow for doing flat fills on comics and the like is to do a magic-wand selection and then to consistently grow my selection by a fixed amount to "bleed" into the line art, usually by 3 px or so. Every time I open the 'grow / shrink' menu it's reset back to 0, however. I would love a way to always grow by the same amount, either by defining a macro that does it by a specific amount or by having the last amount stay active in the dialog box which comes up.

Additionally, it would be nice if I could use the tab key or similar to change the focus within the dialog box; currently tab just toggles the UI visibility.

I think more sticky settings was something that was on the roadmap to be implemented, but I don’t know the current status. You mentioned macros; if you go to [View > Studio] and enable the ‘Macro’ and ‘Library’ panels, you should be able to record a macro in Affinity Photo to grow the selection by say 3px and then save it in the macro library for later use.
