  1. Oh dear. I hope she doesn't put a spell on the Affinity software.
  2. I think he might be looking into creating a mandala. Mark, if you create a circular grid that has guidelines all the way around and then have objects around that grid applied as symbols, you can create a symmetrical effect based off of those symbols. See how it's done here.
  3. That's an interesting idea, Alfred. I opened up the file and took a look for myself. It does make the clock look worn out.
  4. Hello Darita, It sounds like you're getting creative there. Well something I can think of is to to add a double star shape behind the clock indicating alarming impact. It's not in my example, but maybe also have a circular shadow beneath the clock to make it look like it's jumping. (Once the distort tool comes in, that should be fun to play with too.)
  5. Hello there, That is not transparency then if I understand you correctly. It sounds like you just want to poke a hole through the bigger rectangle using the size of the smaller one. You need to use the booleans operation on the upper toolbar. (If perfected, hold Alt before clicking the button to create a compound shape.) The second button (subtract) will do the trick.
  6. I remember we discussed the difference between how clipping and cropping works. It may have been that.
  7. Hello there, Designer is still fairly new, but there will be an option to have multiple effects, strokes, and/or fills per object in version 1.6. The feature is listed on the roadmap. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/842-affinity-designer-feature-roadmap/ I assume icon indications in the Layers studio is what will count as an Appearance tab in Illustrator, but we'll wait and see. Unfortunately, there is not yet any plans for the 3D effects you mentioned, but there is a 3D effect available in the Effects window. It can be accessed by the FX icon in the Layers studio.
  8. Well that's very nice of you to add that as an attachment. :) I learned what booleans actually meant back at the beginning of this year when I first became a member of the forum. Before, I just knew the term as pathfinders, as Illustrator calls it, but I'm realizing booleans is the accurate term. Well I just learned something new. Good to know. In addition to this, Mediafuel, hold Ctrl and click to select part of a compound shape separately. Ctrl + Click will also select individuals in a group and a clipped object.
  9. It is easy to tell that the way you vision the final result just comes to you. These look fabulous. I'm always interested to see the different art people share, because everyone has a totally different style.
  10. Hello Mediafuel, If you use the geometry options frequently, the "Operation" buttons are the ones that look like this.
  11. I know that Designer is made for vector graphics, but since pixel layers is already a feature, it would make sense to have the ability to merge them. When I draw, I make a rough sketch in the Pixel persona first, and then I finish up my work in the Vector persona. I sometimes have to copy and paste pixel selections, and that creates a new pixel layer. With the layer structure I use, I try to keep all of pixel sketches together for future review. Can this be considered?
  12. I assume you mean in Photo, right? I ask because there are layer adjustments in Designer as well. I haven't used Final Cut Pro X. So you're saying it automatically detects less saturated areas of a video or image? That's cool, as oppose to correcting the overall media clip.
  13. You should make a new topic on that. That is a really good idea. Maybe even have a property picker tool available in just that studio.
  14. Hi Steve, There is also a third product in the works; Publisher, but it might still be a while until it is released.
  15. If it's easier, there is an arrow indicator in the Colours tab that will swap the stroke and fill. That way, you won't have to reselect the colors.
  16. I noticed that as well about a year ago, but I couldn't find any video tutorials on the animation side of that program. It would be really nice to learn.
  17. I agree, although I do like having some opposite features in an application. For example, using the pixel tools in Designer is a good way to get a rough sketch down first, so it is then easier to figure out the vector operations. I think depending on how to achieve the principle task, some opposite features may be needed. For the most part though, the programs shouldn't bloat like R C-R said. Just because of how things are going with Affinity, I'm already confident that Publisher will be another great application. Aside from motion graphics, I really don't have any reason to touch the main 5 Adobe programs I own any more.
  18. A curve is single path or shape. Anytime you draw a single line from the start, you create a curve. A layer is what you can organize curves into. By default, only curves are shown. If you add a new layer, you can click and drag curves into them to keep them organized. The layer can then be collapsed and expanded. (You can also add layers inside layers.) A clip is when curves are organized inside another curve (not a layer). This creates the ability to put objects inside another creating a window-like structure. Moving the window will move the objects along with it. A mask is the done when cropping an object (as shown in your attachment with double thumbnails). It works similar to clipped objects because it also creates a window structure, but the window is what is movable. Anything inside does not leave position.
  19. By pointer, do you mean the move tool? That's weird. I followed your example, and I'm not facing any issue.
  20. Hey Alfred, Lowes called. They want their tools back. I'm sure it is. I just want to be on top of it all. Thank you for the information.
