  1. @MartinHH: I was flipping around with images and layer effects and suddenly (I don't remember exactly what I did), the effect was not applied on the bleed area in similarity to your example. By hiding (uncheck in the layer panel) and re-enabling the culprit image, the effect on the bleed was restored.
  2. Hi @MartinHH, I just tried and I don't get that. I applied both a Layer effect and an Adjustment on both a picture in a picture frame as well as an image i dropped directly on the document. The effects are applied all the way in the bleed. Is this a bug introduced in the latest release? I'm still on 1.7.0.162 because the internal update mechanism will not get the current latest beta.
  3. Hi! Currently, when exporting to pdf, the default area setting is set to "All Spreads" in the export dialogue. I'm not sure when this is actually helpful, but 99.9% of the time I use "All Pages" (otherwise I export current page/selection). Could this be the default instead or, at least, stick once it is changed? I'd be glad to hear when and for what purpose people are using the All Spread area setting. ref, this thread:
  4. I'll definitively second that. I find the default setting quite annoying and have to change that all the time. I wish that could stick once you have changed. Maybe the "All Spreads" option is useful in some case, I have not found it yet. Very easily, you can export All Spreads with bleed and printer marks, but that's really nothing you should send to a printer. I would love to hear the argument for the current default.
  5. I was able to update from 1.7.0.139 to 1.7.0.140 when auto-update was introduced. But after that, updates were never found through auto-update and I always had to download the full update from the forum link. Maybe I was too eager. Currently on 1.7.0.162 not finding the 1.7.0.167 update from yesterday. Is that in accordance with the testing status of this functionality or is there still a substantial delay between the link publication and the internal update availability?
  6. Hi @Gelphyn, If you click a curve object with the text frame tool, you will get a curve text object (a styled object with text inside). Unless you actually enter text in that box, it will appear as "(Curve Text)" in the layers panel. The color format you are trying to change is for the text (the contextual toolbar in your screenshot is for text). Since you do not have any text, you do not see any changes. Try the node tool instead to change the curve object format.
  7. @Clanks I imported your ai-file into Affinity Publisher beta and Affinity Designer, on Mac, both by placing an image from file and drag & drop from Finder. It did not crash for me.
  8. @Seneca: For some reasons, Safari will add a ps extension when downloading the ai-file. If you remove that extension, it will be imported normally to APub beta or AD. Downloading via Firefox doesn't change the extension.
  9. Hi @Uncle Mez: Good round-up! Regarding point 5: "show bleed" in the interface is independent of the export, it only affects the UI. If you check "include bleed" in the export, it will be added to your pdf (I have not tried to see if this is supported by all export formats - update: now I have tried png jpg and svg, and it does. Nice!). Under the "more" button, if "include printer marks" is checked, there will be white space around your document to host those marks. If you uncheck it, the pdf will end slick by the bleed box or trim box depending on if bleed was included in export or not.
  10. If you increase the size of icons (in the mini cheeseburger menu of the pages pallet), at least, you would get less free space (and more detailed icons). And, yes, it would be great to be able to reorder the masters.
  11. @DanParsons: It seams that you are answering to @grapher as if he was representing Serif. He is not. He is just another forum user just like you or me. Serif staff have a "staff" mark by their avatar. "unprofessional" would really not be the word I would use to describe how they meet users questions in these forums. Since there are _a lot_ of questions/requests, they are not always able to answer/comment every single one, though.
  12. You can define spread masters or page masters. If you define a spread master it will show as such in the master panel and take two pages in width (because it's a spread). Nothing unintuitive about that.
  13. @Old Bruce: agreed that the solution of duplicating and then opening the file is a sloppy implementation. One can suspect that there are just two rows of AppleScript behind that Stationary checkbox. In that way, MS office makes it more elegant with a new unnamed document to be saved wherever is better.
  14. I'm still on macOS Sierra and this is how APub and other apps behave. This is also how MS office files have been working as long as I have been using them (but based on different file extensions). Double-click (from Finder) to create a new document based on the template; open from within program to edit the template.
  15. @walt.farrell: @Old Bruce found the answer before I came back: Thanks for this explanation @Old Bruce. In the case of styles were inheritance is a recurring pattern, that makes totally sense. Also, probably, all the occurrences of three states checkboxes that have puzzled me, might have been in the Text Styles dialogues.
  16. Many checkboxes in the interface have 3 states. See image below. The middle one is commonly used when the actual checkbox is representing an underlying group of checkboxes where all are not in the same state (checked or unchecked). But it looks like even standalone checkboxes have these 3 states. This is strange, isn't it? A Pub beta 1.7.0.140
  17. Thank you Dave for the detailed explanations. I think I understand it better now. I will do some more testing to figure out if I can reproduce the global numbering issue. Yes, I understand the challenge of making instructions on a moving target during the beta program. Eventually, this is a topic with quite a few details to understand that would make sense to explain with a video.
  18. On the other hand, i don't see when it makes sense to place a multi-page document in a layout. Best would be to split the document in 1 pages documents before ps export, wouldn't it?
  19. I was having a hard time to make that work. For the heading numberings to increment with the heading occurrence in a document, I had to link all the text frames together. That can become a mess if the pages are reordered. Also, I would have expected the "Global" setting to handle this globally in the document, thus without the need to link together the heading boxes. Also, I'm not sure I understand the "Restart numbering" options nor what the "Now" checkbox actually does in the "Bullets and Numbering" option panel? An instruction video on the topic would have been nice.
  20. I get something similar, when I toggle bleed on/off and Clip to Canvas is enabled. On a master spread.
  21. Thanks Pauls, that worked pretty well. It is the first time I look at the Fields panel. I was not aware of it. Searching for section in the help did not give a hint. Maybe a shortcut to enable it in the Text menu would make sense.
  22. One can define document sections with the Section Manager. Is there a way to display the current section on a page?
  23. With the number of times this question shows up, I would suggest this could be a pinned thread in the forum.
