I sell illustrations and photos on a few online stock sites. Affinity would make things so much easier for me if we could export a version 10 compatible eps. Still, Affinity Designer sure makes illustrations like this fun.

So you don't have to dig through the thread, here is a screenshot of the new UI in 1.6 version in development, which MBd posted.

I'd like to see a trim tool (select line(s), will delete line(s)_ up to another line). CorelDRAW has one that works really well.

Here is a video showing the feature.

thanks and great job so far.

I'm assuming the Headphones and Wire Assembly layers are situated on top of the lines only artboard in the design...

When you move the line on the Headphones layer, Designer detects the artboard directly below the selected object and will place it on the artboard. This is why it also disappears (because the artboard is hidden).

This is all due to the unusual situation of having a layer above and outside of an artboard.

If the Headphones layer was nested inside the artboard or located on its own artboard, the line would remain within that layer.

    Thanks.

    Hi befehr,
    Sorry the delay replying.
Thanks for the file. I'm experiencing the same thing on my system (Mac).
I'm passing this to the dev team to be looked at.

MBd, that is EXACTLY what it was. I just stumbled on that solution and came here to post when I saw your answer.
    Thanks

No problem. Thanks for taking the time to answer anyway.  :)

    Hi befehr,
    1) Currently there's no way to prevent the background becoming transparent when creating a new document from the pasteboard.
    2) Go to File ▸ Document Setup..., Colour tab and uncheck Transparent background. Alternatively click anywhere on an empty area of the document with the Move tool, and press the Document Setup... button on the context toolbar or simply press ⇧ (shift) + ⌘ (cmd) + P.

    • Open the Stroke panel.
    • Click on the Pressure parameter.
    • Add points (click on the existing plot) to the graph that pops up and arrange them.
    • Use the PenTool to draw a line.

You may need to adjust the line width to enhance the effect. On the pressure graph, add extra points close to existing points to force a straight line.

Found this neat trick playing with the pressure setting of a stroke...

Can also be used for tails...

Wouldn't use it for long paths though, it gets tricky to edit the shapes as it's mapped onto a narrow palette. Still fun for signage and as a design element, not technical illustration....

    Hi,

If you have some layer content that spills out over the document edge the unclip canvas just 'grows' the canvas to encompass that layer content.

I've added these options to the Help now - in the Image and canvas size topic.

    Cheers

befehr got a reaction from Raskolnikov in creating ellipses and drawing at specific angles
I work as a technical illustrator (as well as graphic designer, photographer, and technical writer). I have both a PC and a mac, but want to work full time on a mac and get out from under Microsoft and Adobe.

As a technical illustrator it is very important to draw at very specific and consistent angles, and be able to create precise ellipses based on drawing angle. Illustrator and CorelDRAW make it very easy to create these ellipse by using actions and macros. There is also the ability to set smart guide to draw at specific angles.

I fail to find any tools like these in AD, specifically 1) create or control constraint angles 2) smart guide 3) scale an object (like a circle to make an ellipse) by percentage, in one direction only, and 4) rotate that ellipse at a specific angle.

I have been known to miss the obvious, so please tell me these if I have missed these in AD, or if they will be added sometime in the near future. BTW, Serif DRAW has a FANTASTIC tool for drawing "on-axis", great for the tech illustrator. This would be perfect for AD.

One last thing, I created an image and thought I would change the colors or this object and used a layer filter (not sure what it is actually called). Sadly, when exporting to either EPS or SVG, it is converted to a bitmap. In fact, many effects such as gradient fills are converted to bitmaps when exporting to a vector-based format, which is really a show stopper for me. A way to actually created a global swatch library that can they be changed would be great too.

    thanks
