I don't have a link, I downloaded the version from the Internet, didn't even know that there would be an unofficial beta.

There isn't an unofficial beta, I'm in the process of releasing this new beta. But it seems I've been beaten to it by other "external" sites. Would you mind saying which site you downloaded this file from? I'm just concerned that as it hasn't come from us, you may have downloaded a version that was loaded with malware or viruses.

I am having the same exact issue on Windows 10 Pro, i7-10700K, and a GTX 1080 TI. It's making these products un-usable at points and I have a lot of work on my plate. Please advise Serif.

    Mark,

Your response is very much appreciated. After performing a clean install of the new video driver (471.41), it does appear to have solved my issue. Was the Capture One listing a newer development, or did I totally miss it the first time I posted my problem?

My temporary fix, prior to today, was to use an old NVIDIA driver all the way down in the 446.xx versions. That played well with Affinity and Capture One, but eventually caused problems in newer programs installed on my system. Glad they were able to fix it in the new driver.

I opened over 20 TIF files at once, and edited through all of them, with no issue in Affinity Photo. Thanks again for alerting me to the driver update.

    -Michael

That's great Michael, I'm glad you're back up and running again! I don't think we knew about this problem when you made your original post. But either way, glad it's sorted now 🙂

Strangely, there's not a single crash report. Technically Affinity doesn't "crash", it just hangs with my cursor circling like it is loading something. I let it sit for 30 mins and it is still hanging. I have to kill the process to exit the software.

Ah OK, that's a hang then. Can you open Task Manager, find Affinity Designer, and right click it, and choose "Create dump file". It will make a large file, probably around 5GB. But if you could upload it somewhere (e.g. Dropbox) then I can take a look at what is causing the hang for you.

This simply isn't true and you know it. There are plenty of reports here:

Not a single person has said that updating or reinstalling drivers has fixed it.

I'm the lead engineer for Windows, so I'm pretty well placed to comment on what common crashes we see.

Looking at the thread you provided, I identified the original crash was within the NVIDIA driver. We know of a problem with Capture One's Explorer integration, which caused a crash within the NVIDIA driver in other applications, and I notice that the original poster mentioned that they have Capture One installed, so that crash will have been caused by them. I reported this issue to NVIDIA, and they are now aware of it (and can reproduce it).

So yes, to re-iterate, the original crash was indeed caused by a crash in a graphics driver, caused by a piece of third party software being installed.

---  I am NOT using the 3rd party software mentioned in the "Issues caused by third party software" thread.

    ...

For example, I can run several images through GIMP, CaptureOne trial, and Topaz Denoise without issue.

Any help would be appreciated, as I was really looking forward to being Adobe-free.

    -Michael

Hi Michael, I appreciate this is late, but it seems your crash will have been caused by the Capture One Explorer integration.

You'll notice that Capture One is now listed in the "Issues caused by third party software" thread. NVIDIA are aware of the problem, and I think they may have released an updated driver which prevents the crash.

I am currently a trial user on day 2 of my 10 day free trial. As of right now, Affinity Designer continually crashes making the software unusable. I have sent a few messages on Facebook messenger directly to Affinity in which I have gotten support responses with various suggestions. So far, I have tried every suggestion given, but I have experienced no better luck. I have currently been suggested to try this beta version; however, since I am not a paying customer, I appear to be out of luck. I really do enjoy Affinity Designer; however, my decision to purchase the software will ultimately be based on whether or not I can get the software to work without crashing so often. Do you have any further suggestions or recommendations for me at this time? I have 8 days left of my 10 day trial to figure this out or throw in the towel. I really appreciate the help and look forward to a solution.

Do you have any crash reports in

    %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0\CrashReports\reports

    ?

There is a very significant difference in the benchmarks between builds 1112 and 1115 for the GPU performance Raster and Combined Single GPU.  Both builds are nominally benchmark version 1920.  Build 1112 numbers are comparable with all versions back 1.9.4.1079 but the latest build 1115 now has numbers comparable to 1.9.4.1048.   This looks like a reversion? It would be really helpful to have consistency here.

What are your numbers? How many tests did you run? I tend to run 5 or so, and average the results.

My whole system was a clean install and Nvidia drivers were up to date. Turning off hardware acceleration worked and a new driver just came out today. I've seen plenty of posts in forums where the only solution was turning hardware acceleration off and it did work for me.

Now, I'm unable to reproduce those crashes, since I installed the drivers today both Affinity photo versions are stable (normal one and beta), so it seems it had something to do with the graphic drivers, but not because they were old ad the time but I'll keep it in mind that if it ever starts crashing again I should find the crash logs. Where is it located?

    What GPU do you have?

Crash reports are in %APPDATA%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports\reports or similar, depending on product, and whether it's a beta (beta is in "1.0 (Beta)" folder).

Is the Hardware acceleration causing random and constant crashes issue being addressed?

A lot of the reports that we see are to do with out of date drivers, or drivers that need a clean uninstall and reinstall. Is there a crash you are specifically referring to? For crashes, it's really useful to try to locate the crash report, as well as the log file.

    Welcome to the forums @Vinn,

Did you purchase Photo from Serif or MS?

Your running an outdated version. The current retail version is 1.9.2.1035. You might try downloading and installing the current version. Just go to serif's Affinity website, login to your account, go to downloads and product keys.

Serif released Hardware Acceleration/Open CL with the 1.9 version. If your machine is supported, it will be switched on by default. If you notice it crashes too, or other problems, try going into the Preferences>Performance, and disabling it. They've had a lot of problems with various GPUs.

The user is showing the default installation directory for a direct purchase, not a Microsoft Store purchase.

@Vinn, I suggest getting the latest version from our store (you should be able to login to get a link).
