MikeTO got a reaction from Kelly Bellis in Is it possible for Preflight to ignore spelling errors in all URLs?
Correct. Note that no text in this document formatted with the hyperlink style will be spell checked now, so if other hyperlinks are words instead of URLs and you want them spell checked, you should create a second hyperlink style for the ones you don't want spell checked.

MikeTO got a reaction from GarryP in Is it possible for Preflight to ignore spelling errors in all URLs?
URLs that are visible in your document will be spell checked just like any other text. To exclude URLs from spell check, edit your hyperlink character style and set Language > Spelling to None.

I don't know why you can't delete a TOC Style named TOC 1, but you will be able to delete it if you rename it to something else. This is a minor bug that I don't think has been previously reported.
All caps: First, edit your Main TOC: Entry style to change Typography > Capitals > All Petite Caps = Default or No Change. Turning this off won't fix the problem but it's a problem.
The problem is a known bug with updating a TOC inheriting an attribute applied elsewhere. You have to specifically define attributes or else TOC text will inherit that attribute. You have All Alternates > Alternate 2 applied to your TOC. To fix this, edit all three of your TOC paragraph styles and change Typography > All Alternates to 0. Then update your TOC.
Cheers

MikeTO reacted to Affinity Info Bot in Very slow document opening
An issue raised in this thread ("Selecting OpenType Variable Fonts with Extended Character Sets Causes Font Selection Performance Issues") has now been reported to the developers by the testing team (Ref: AF-4948). Thank you very much for reporting this issue to us.

MikeTO reacted to Daniel Höpfl in Very slow document opening
I saw the same, when I did some tests regarding the slow font selection issue.
Does the open delay correlate to the number of OpenType fonts/styles used? For me, it does: I just created two test documents, one that contains three paragraphs, using three TrueType fonts (loads quickly), one with three paragraphs, using three OpenType fonts (takes long).

MikeTO reacted to bbrother in Reading Order Panel
@Sean P There is no way this will work for me in this form.
I would prefer to start with a blank panel and have full control over what objects are added and be able to remove them at will, especially in the case of a longer publication. Maybe it would be worth adding an option to choose between manual or automatic addition of text and other objects. Now in the case of a longer publication the panel is cluttered with elements that are unnecessary, which makes it difficult to manage articles.
I would love to see an improvement where after clicking Alt+[Add Article] the selected entries in the panel would be moved and grouped under the newly created article.
What I also don't like:
The blue lines indicating the new position when dragging to change the order are too thin thus barely visible. The check mark and cross icon are too large compared to the height of the entry. The color (too intense and bright) and style (bent/twisted) of the check mark icon do not fit the UI style, to put it mildly. It still needs a lot of work to make sense😉

MikeTO reacted to Old Bruce in Affinity Publisher - number of page
You most likely have Page 56 selected. See how I have pages 2 and 3 with the grey outline and then pages 6 and 7 are highlighted blue, the blue highlight shows that this is the spread where I want the action to occur.

MikeTO reacted to Hangman in Advanced Page Management: General Improvements
One of the improvements listed for the 2.6 Beta is:
Even though the Text Frame for the left page of a right-facing Master is no longer shown, in certain circumstances, the jump line still appears:
Steps to Reproduce
Create a new facing-page Publisher document Add two text frames to the left Master page and link Move the second text frame to the right facing Master page Select the text frame on the first Publication page The jump/continuation line still appears Note: This equally happens in the 2.5.5 Retail version but with the addition of the Text frame because the Master page object isn't hidden.

MikeTO reacted to Sean P in Reading Order Panel
Auto article names:
The names for objects are generated by the objects name in the Layers Panel. If you want to give it a more meaningful name in the Reading Order Panel then simply just renaming the layer will be sufficient. For example I can rename by Table to 'Sales Figures Table' and the name in the Reading Order Panel will change from '|Year|Amount|2024|$10000|||||' to 'Sales Figures Table'
Can't rename articles: Again as mentioned above this is done by giving the layer a meaningful name.
Selected article bug: I've logged this.
Duplicate articles with split masters bug:
This one I found that when I opened the file I had two frames present. As mentioned when editing I get three frames which is incorrect so I will log that. The Undo does then correctly go back to 2 frames listed as I would expect.
---
Auto scroll: Thanks, I've passed this on as improvement feedback.
Incorrect drop zone highlighting: Thanks - this appears to only affect macOS and iPad. I've logged this.
Icons: Thanks! This is something we're already aware of and already logged.
Question (about grouping front matter): This is correct.
---
Automatic article creation: I'll pass this on as an improvement. Related to this it should really toggle multiple items at once if you have them selected when toggling (similar to the Layers Panel when you toggle visibility for multiple selected objects).
Add Article doesn't auto scroll: Thanks for that. I've also passed that on in your first auto scroll suggestion.
Double-click: This seems to be working for me. If you're still getting this feel free to drop a video and file and we can take a look!
---
Add multiple selected objects: Thanks, I've passed this on as improvement feedback.

MikeTO reacted to Oufti in Pub V2 ToC tiny text after I hit update - Please help
There is a known bug that "repeats" last formatting (wherever, whenever it was done…) when you update the ToC.
Please look there for details (I also added a video in a subsequent post):

MikeTO got a reaction from johnnydfred in Unofficial PDF Manual - Expert Guide to Affinity Publisher
Yes, I will update this manual for 2.6 so come back here when 2.6 is released to download the updated PDF. Even for those not interested in multi-page spreads, the sections on pages and master pages have to be revised because there are so many changes to the Pages panel and various dialogs. I will also document the new Reading Order panel.
In addition to the new features, this edition will include sections on grids, guides, snapping, viewing, view points, measurement units, document presets, and an intro section on creating your first document.

MikeTO got a reaction from Old Bruce in The distance between pages of a size other than A4 is too large
Publisher displays 85 pt (about 30 mm) of vertical space between pages regardless of the page size or measurement system in use. This value cannot be changed so with large page sizes the gap appears small and with small pages the gap appears large. Your document is 10 mm tall so the gap appears very large.

MikeTO got a reaction from paleolith in Other Improvements in 2.6
It could report each scale change, so if frame 6 of 10 was scaled, it could report the scale change from 5 to 6 and from 6 to 7 which would reduce the preflight warnings from 10 to 2.

MikeTO got a reaction from Alex White in Initial words bug?
+1
I found this interesting. Publisher doesn't include punctuation as part of a word so I can see why it works the way it does but as a result, you can end up with inconsistently styled punctuation:
One two: three four five < terminated by character, colon is styled
One two three four five < terminated by max words, there may or may not be a colon later in the paragraph
One two three: four five < terminated by max words, colon is not styled
I can't think of a workaround for you but I think this is a good feature suggestion. The rule doesn't have to be specific to characters that are End Characters, it could just be that the initial words character style should be applied to trailing punctuation after the max word.

Hi @shedonlj and welcome to the forums. I suggest deleting the photo you attached because personal information is visible in the screenshot.
I don't know why you're having an error saving the file so I'll leave that to somebody else, but in the meantime, you can probably rescue this file by creating a new file and then choosing Document > Add Pages from File and importing the pages into the new document. Save that under a new name and hopefully that will be fine.
Good luck!

MikeTO got a reaction from dotAF in Remember last used values for New Document creation
This might be a Windows-specific issue. On macOS, all of the New Document dialog's fields are sticky so you can create as many documents as you like in a row with the same values without creating a preset.

Couldn't this simply be done via the Notes panel, specifying the document-wide format desired for all footnotes?
