This happens sometimes for several hours then it starts working. It's very difficult to know what I'm doing when I can't see the edges of a brush. It happens on both Photo eraser and paint brushes even the basic brushes won't show the edge. I'm working in Affinity 2 though this happened in the 1st version too.

Is there anything that needs to be turned on or off somewhere? I'm working on a PC with windows 10.

Also, when you output/publish PDF, there is an option to convert all text to curves instead of embedding font.

Document Setup > Facing Pages > Start on Left

This... is ... confusing!  Whether one approaches the CP panels directly or through text panel, is the same and (expletive) confusing and inconsistent. Considering also the thread mentioned above I see;
a) the toolset does not consistently and uniquely identify the styles of "text" ("text" interpreted in the most broadly possible sense). Landing the cursor/caret on any particular part of a character/word/paragraph may or may not update the various panels to indicate what is under the cursor/caret. 
b) Text styles is a conjumbling of a suggested link between character and paragraphs - it is not a link, yet it sorta is as the manual attempts to make one belief. Text styles themselves have no names that can be used as shortcut to invoke them, groups do and seem to work more/better as a single application entity.
Item a) is a bug - big one in my opinion. Item b) is UX mistake.   The *big* problem with a) is that I cannot use the cursor/caret position to learn where my styles are off/need correcting i.e., the program does not explain itself. Thats a big no no.
Truly, I have no idea what you meant by this.

C, P, and T styles seem straightforward but have me thoroughly confused. To get a better handle on it, I looked at how these are applied in the example docs; specifically the "Lifestyle Magazine Poise". On page 16 there is a text frame with regular text as well as two bold lines the first one being "Why did you create Juic?"  This is where I have questions.
With the C, P and T studio dialogs open and cursor placed on the regular text, the selections for CPT are character style 'Placeholder", paragraph style "Body+" and the text style shows "Placeholder" and "Body" selected. What is "Body"?  Why not "Body+"?
When I place my cursor on the bold line "Why did you create Juic?", the CPT studios show no (freakin') change! Yes, the text style studio shows that this is a bold text but its selection remains "Placeholder" and "Body". What is happening?
The bold line has space above and below, where is that set i.e., which CP or T option is driving that?  I poked through all the settings and nothing is different between the regular text and bold text.
I keep thinking that text styles are in essence a grouping of character and paragraph styles i.e., one defines a C, then P style and group them together as a Text style with its own name - but this is not how it works (right?). It seems a text style is something all by itself but it does not have its own name and has some vague link to already defined character and paragraph styles.
Nobody is asking these questions so I must be dummy (certainly feels that way), humbly ask for your time to sprinkle a few wise words on this to get me out of this rut.

Every time I want to do something straightforward, it doesn't work as expected, and I have to search the internet to find a solution.  I've been unable to quickly find a solution to Affinity's latest bizarre refusal to work logically.
Here's what I'm trying to do.  copy one layer into a mask layer.  I though it would just be a case of click the layer to copy, select all, copy (tried both ctrl c and copy flattened), then right click on the mask layer and choose 'edit mask', then paste..........Nope, doesn't like it...it's completely nonsensical.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  
Affinity, if you're listening, for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE make your software intuitive.

There is definitively something strange about the Blur tool. I really have to paint a lot, with all settings pushed at 100%, brush size humongous, and stay on the same spot for a long long time.... since I duplicate the layer, I can evaluate the effect by switching it on and off. I am uncertain if it should take that much time. In comparison, the smudge tool works quite fast. Our perhaps I have too many pixels in my photos...

I'm a newbie.  I click the layer (a photograph) I'm working on.  I click the 'Blur' tool.  I choose size, hardness, flow etc.
 
And click click click ... it doesn't seem to have an effect on the layer.
 
If I choose an adjustment layer, say Gaussian blur, then my only choice is to blur the entire image.
 
So I'm missing something on the 'Blur' tool ... and can't seem to find an answer in all the terrific tutorials you have.
 
A hint?  A clue?

I can barely believe Aff Publisher has no Word Count, when even Apple's Pages has a perfectly usable version visible all the time (if selected) and able to provide either total wordage for the document or a sub-total for any selected text, both of which are easily and prominently displayed.
Work-arounds that involve going in and out of other applications, copying and pasting and goodness knows what else, miss the point completely.

I've only had Affinity Designer for a few days. In the past, I've used Photoshop, although I'm not an expert. My favorite Adobe program was Fireworks, which has been discontinued.
I'm trying to do a very basic thing — set part of a photo to a heavy blur, but whatever I do, the Gaussian Blur seems to always affect the entire photo. (Yes, I could select part of my photo and add it to another Layer but, in the other programs I've used, there was always a quick way to only affect the part of the image which was Selected.)
In testing this, with a simple document, these are my Steps:
create new document switch to Pixel Persona select the Paint Brush Tool set Width to 110px set Flow to 100% set Hardness to 100% (Steps 4, 5 and 6 are only to create a sharp image, so I can more easily see the results of the blurring effect.) select a blue color draw 5, horizontal strokes, each separated from the others select the Rectangular Marquee draw a selection down through all the strokes but leave parts of them unselected select Effects from the right-side panel put a Checkmark in Gaussian Blur drag the Radius past 15px and "everything" is blurred. Why? Why isn't the blur only applied to the parts of the image "within" the Selection? I see the same results if I use the Selection Brush Tool (or Rectangular Marquee).
If I select the Paint Brush Tool and draw across this page, it only paints within the Selection, which is what it's supposed to do. Why is Gaussian Blur ignoring the selected area?
Yes, I've tried using the Blur Brush Tool but, no matter how I adjust those Settings, it's effect is extremely weak.
I have watched a few Affinity Designer videos and searched this Forum but could not find an answer to this. I'm sure it's something very simple that I'm "doing" or "not doing".

I am having a  similar issue. I downloaded  the  latest version. I cannot register  it. My password  showed  invalid. I tried to reset it. It was  still denied. My mistake  I imagine was  that I downloaded it, and  it was  a special offer... only $24.99. I have  to assume  that a  special offer  like  this would  deny registration.
 

I have same issue, my registered purchase was when I was with TalkTalk - Affinity don't have the capacity to change account information and I can't remember my login. My TalkTalk email is now defunct as I am now with Zen. Cannot login with my gmail account so I am well and truly stuffed! Hope this gets sorted double-quick! Replaced my email account with x's for privacy. My purchase was quite some time ago from Affinity directly, not through Windows Store. (Not using Windows 10).

I purchased Affinity Products (Photo, Publisher and Designer) from Microsoft Store for my Windows desktop couple of months back and now recently upgraded to the 1.9 version.  When I try to register I get an error message shown below.  I have tried several times with no success.  I would like to get the free assets by registering my products.  Please help.

Y'all, I came here wondering if there was a fix I could make to the program to make it work. "Oh, turn this thing on and that goes away." "Change this setting and it should work." I would even accept "your computer doesn't have enough power to run this, sorry."
The fact that the responses assumed I am incompetent or inexperienced with design programs or that something is wrong with how I work and create my files is insulting. I've been doing this for twenty years. It's my profession. This is far from the first, second, or third design program I've used.
I truly want this program to work. I hate Adobe's business practices. I want to support smaller companies instead. But so far, I don't think I can use this program in a professional capacity.

I got all 3 Affinity programs, hoping to do away with Ad*be, but so far, I haven't been able to do that at all. I've been trying for a year. They're all way too slow.
Today, I tried laying out a book in Publisher with 49 pages. After 3 hours, I got 10 pages laid out. I gave up and did the job in InD*sign. I got the entire project done in 10 minutes.
I have the latest version of the program. I restarted it 5 times. I restarted my computer.  I don't understand why it's so slow.

I didn't ask if you could resize an image without resampling it. Please re-read what I wrote. Holy shit @ the 14 day refund period, not surprised it's such a short window as it's rife with problems, though I did order through the App Store rather than through the Affinity Store (whatever that is?), so I'll try my luck through Apple.

So first of all can i say that Affinity is driving me mad! every simple little task is hidden away somewhere! i picked photoplus up in a few days whereas i've been trying to do basic stuff on Affinity for months and nothing seems to do what i want it to! I'm simply trying to copy and paste the selection of an area of an image (which for some reason was automatically made a group?) but when i try to do it, it just makes a copy of the selection lines with nothing inside? I'm getting to that point where i'm going to have to start trying to find something easier to use! (or go back to photoplus for a while). SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!! I'M GOING INSANE!

I'm having the same problem insomuch as I can't import them but can open them from explorer in AD?

(thats why photo shop asks).
As i said above i am working with a Tiff  ( not jpeg as above) to retouch in affinity instead of photoshop.
Should i be worried if i have a 150mb file off my camera full res then i open in photoshop retouch and theres hardly any change in size when flattened and saved .( on Mac )
When i do the same in infinity photo it saves it at 40mb instead of 150mb . Sorry but were is all the info going.
Yes i should be worried? The Answer is Yes Very. Does it just throw all the info away.?
if you look at image size in photoshop it explains all dimensions and dpi and physical size. thats all i want for print not web. ( don't want to hope for the best and think its just magic)
i am sure there is a lot of people wanting to swap over to infinity but have these little niggle's of how it work and are just not used to it.
Thats my question that will determine if i still use this program or go back to photoshop. Which is a shame because its  great but makes me nervous of putting out a file that has half the information. i hope you see my point as this is very important to anyone that will use at a professional level.
Never come across this before and all i want is a rational explanation. So please can you answer Why this happens. Im baffled with perhaps what i am used to.
Would be much appreciated. Please help me and my team cross over to using this program. Just don't want another post that doesn't get answers again.
 
 
 

Thanks for reply. Its a bit hard to explain but i know what my mega pixel is on my camera and its saying 14 megapixel its not my camera is 50 megapixel large format.
i produce a file in photoshop retouch and save nothing changes including the size of the file . i do the same in infinity and it has a lower Megabytes.  but same pixels dimension.
There no compression as i'm outputting to Tiff so size would not be affected.
I have use lots of different programs that output what i tell it without no downsizing. PS C1 Lr  Phocus and Sinar .Please can you help me with an answer to this.
Would like to get a professional answer why a tiff becomes lower megabytes when saved and photoshop keeps the same size.
I Output every day to exact sizes in all formats and different compression so i know in my head  what a A4 Tiff at 300dpi i file size is.
Please someone help ?? 
 

I’m new to using afininty from ps cs. Please can someone tell me why my megabytes is lowered from export and save . I do not want to change the size of my image. I find it very frustrating that I cannot see its telling me my resolution is 14mb  top left when I’m using a 50mb camera. 
Love the program but will ditch it if it’s downsizing auto. How do I turn off so my original stays the same size. The pixels do not change just the megabytes is halfed.

I think that applications should be as intuitive as it is possible. So for such basic things consulting build-in help shouldn't be needed. Otherwise Affinity software will be famous of not being usable without studying documentation. Is this the way Serif wants to go? I think that being second Corel or Adobe is not good idea. Corel was hegemonic leader on this market and how now uses it? Adobe is present king but people are looking for good alternative. So don't behave as monopolist even not achieving such position yet. Users will use Affinity apps if they will be user intuitive, friendly, and efficient. Period.

Replying here too, as I would also like an explicit percentage feature in the menu (and so does a lot of other people it seems, this is the fourth thread I've found on the same subject).
People shouldn't have to search online forums to find hidden features which should be made obvious through the interface.
