Affinity file viewer
Distill7 replied to MadMak's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
If you can't use an exchangeable format with other developers, I guess your best chance is no use the software that they work with. Serif might not build a viewer because it can make people not need to buy the software and they'll loose potential money. -
Word and Character Count Tool
Distill7 replied to Peter Green's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Word count is also so important to configure line length, 45-75 is the most recommended, and character/word count will help so much. -
Exporting Magazine to Pdf shrinks it
Distill7 replied to World View's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
The PDF file itself can't have dimensions in pixels, only in/cm. The raster content of the PDF (images) has its own dimensions in pixels and DPI independently for each image. Trying to get the size of PDF in px won't work. When you have created the document in the first place, you may have chosen 1500x2100px, but if you set the DPI to 300, then the correct size is 5"x7" and not 1500x2100px. -

Well then, just open it a PDF reader and check the size there. -

The pdf size will depend on width x height multiplied by DPI. The DPI is 300 for print, and 72 for screens. You created a document at 5"x7" at 300 DPI, that's 5"x300 DPI = 1500 px of width, and 7"x300 dpi = 2100 px of height. You exported your document at 72 DPI for web: 5" x 72dpi = 360 px of width and 7"x 72dpi = 504 px of height. Try choosing PDF for print as your preset, if you still have the same problem, click "more..." In the PDF expert window and set it to 300. -

Can you attach the affinity publisher and the pdf files you're having problems with? You can save another copy and delete all pages but 1 if you want to keep content private. -
--- How to IMPORT Content
Distill7 replied to Nenanen's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I tried copy/pasting from LibreOffice, and it works, however, there are always problems in the heading paragraph styles: Direct copy/pasting & importing .rtf documents: All heading paragraph styles are omitted. Placing a .docx file saved from LibreOffice will import headings paragraph styles, but will add a bullet list before them, and an anchor in front of every heading 1. -
Pages in Affinity Designer?
Distill7 replied to rubs's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on Windows threads
Once publisher will be officially released. You'll have access to the photo and designer personas as well. -
It depends on the level of the user, a graphic designer who studies design and produces work in exchange for money will appreciate the software, and we all know how much of a bargain to have affinity software for $50 and even down to $35 and $40 discounts. Other users might see them just as a nice game to produce cool images or make a document here and there won't value them as much as we do. While open source software fail to provide professional quality features (having used Inkscape/Gimp and tried Scribus), they still have a value of providing accessible source code for programmers to learn how such software is made and how it works, providing free easy install alternatives, and many libraries/utilities can be even used by commercial software, even Affinity software incorporate a lot of them. Just check 3rd party licenses under Help/About...

--- How to IMPORT Content
Distill7 replied to Nenanen's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
In my experience, Affinity publisher keeps the formatting only when text is either copy/pasted from an MS word document or when placing a doc/docx document. I just tried both Google docs and dropbox paper and it didn't work. So try saving your file to doc/docx and then use file.. place... And I'm not sure about images. Probably your best chance is to reformat text from scratch. Also note that you should use paragraph and character styles and don't rely on local formatting whether you're using Affinity publisher or any other software Like Google Docs or MS word. -
Plug-Ins, Add-Ons, Add-Ins, Extensions
Distill7 replied to Joachim_L's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
There was a discussion about enabling scripting at some point. They might include it after the official release. -
Affinity publisher is aimed for professionals who create documents for print, not hobbyists. If you can't make $40 back from your work, it might not be for you in the first place.

Right mouse key

How is it used in gimp? -
For professional grade tools: Davinci Resolve: it's a full featured video editor and have great color grading and audio mixing, the down sides are that you'll need a powerful PC and Fusion is not suitable for motion graphics. Hitfilm Express: good video editor (davinci resolve shill better), has good motion graphics tools, but lacks a lot in terms of audio mixing. For audio, the best is Cakewalk by bundlab, it's a fully featured audio editor that supports video, you'll have all the tools you need.

Support typesetting for CJK text
Distill7 replied to lynzrand's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
They need to make their text engine suitable for typing CJK and CTL languages, especially for a software that's supposed to handle large chunks of text. -

I've had this problem before when I was using a custom ICC profile for my monitor. If you switch it to sRGB in windows color settings, it should fix the problem. -
Page Numbering
Distill7 replied to SortyMorty's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
You can add page numbers, but adding chapter and section numbers you'll need a feature like InDesgin "Define variable" based on a paragraph or character style and then Insert variable. Unfortunately, it's not available right now in publisher, I was going to make a feature request post for this but the dev team is busy fixing bugs before official release now instead of adding new features. I used it before to add chapter titles on the running head, it's very useful too for scientific books and dictionaries/indexes. -

I tried scribus because it supports RTL text now, unfortunately as you said its UI is so poorly designed.
