Jane Morrison
Hi All, It's great to see the different book sizes that can be chosen in the Affinity Publisher program, but I don't see one for B5. Am at present trialling a MacOSX desktop version of the program. Am based in Australia where B5 is used for some books and suits a book I am working on. Can you please advise if B5 can be included in the latest version of Affinity Pubisher, e.g. in the "Custom" area, and if so what the measurements, in centimetres and millimetres and for margins and gutters, are for this book size. Also do you contemplate brining out an "Australian English" version? The prospects of a real alternative to buying an expensive subscription to InDesign are very heartening. Thanks very much for all the work you've put int this development.

Staff Lee D Posted September 29, 2019 Staff Share Posted September 29, 2019 I'm not aware of any plans to add more document presets or extra languages at this time but you never know. As long as you know the measurements you can enter them and create a custom preset to use.
walt.farrell
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Jane Morrison. For Australian English as a spelling language: Affinity supports any dictionaries that work with Hunspell, which is also used by several other applications. So if you can find Hunspell dictionaries for Australian English (or any other language) you can add them yourself. The exact method of adding them depends on whether you're using MacOS or Windows, but you can find dictionaries that should work here. Jane Morrison
Thanks all very much for the above info. Will check Hunspell. Otherwise will use British English. Microsoft Word does have an Australian English facility but this may not be supported in Affinity. However as spelling is basically the same it should not be too much of a problem. Problems could arise if Affinity does not recognise any words from Australian English (there are many) that I might be using. Re B5 books I want to know what the correct measurements are for B5 layouts in centimetres and millimetres, including margins and gutter so I can enter them in the Custom area. It would be great if Affinity included a B5 layout in the preset area.
thomaso
> I want to know what the correct measurements are for B5 layouts MikeW has answered with a nice link with various formats, B5 included. > including margins and gutter Margins and gutter are no standard or DIN format. Therefore the forum can't tell you. They vary with the printed matter. Once you have defined it in "Document Setup..." then just save it directly as a preset – and it will be in your preset list for any future use. > have an Australian English facility but this may not be supported in Affinity. Possibly just a matter of its suffixes? See below Walt's hint ... Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

I am actually more concerned with how hyphenation would work, as the LibreOffice Hunspell dictionaries have the dictionary portion for Australian English, but the hyphenation dictionary seems to be for US English (if I remember correctly) and I'm not sure if it would be necessary to copy and rename it for Australian English, or exactly how that would work. Certainly any words unique to Australian English might not hyphenate properly. 7 hours ago, Jane Morrison said: Problems could arise if Affinity does not recognise any words from Australian English (there are many) that I might be using. You can tell Publisher to "Learn" any words like that that you encounter, Jane, and it will add them to a personal dictionary file for you. ashf
It seems that B paper sizes have been added to Publisher in recent beta.
