Hi,

I'm using a MacBook

I just cannot figure out why the invert mask doesn't work for me.

From picture 1 (the purple eye) to 2, I do apply command+i (invert), but the result shows difference than as in the tutorials on the net ...

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @SKANTIN.

Serif is working on an issue with 1.7.2 that's been reported here in the forums by other users. It happens when you have a mask in a group and the group does not have any pixel layers in it. In that case, the mask applies to the pixel layers outside the group.

From the information in your Layers panel I think you've hit that problem.

So it's a bug in 1.7.2., the version I'm using at the moment.

Adding a blank pixel layer didn't work out for me. Probably I do something wrong

I guess I'll wait till the bug is fix

Thanks for your reply guys!

Did you add the blank pixel layer into the group?

I did, R C-R, and the mask inverted. When I painted white on it, though,  nothing was revealed while the mask icon indicated that I had painted on the mask. (After inverting the mask,  hovering the paintbrush over the mask revealed "clear paint".)

I've just spent over an hour on this  same tutorial as the OP and am relieved to see that this is a bug. I tried over and over again, carefully checking the tutorial against what I was doing.

Thank you, Skantin, and everyone else.

Do you mean you inverted the mask or it did that by itself?

Yes, the mask inverts. But instead of the mask applying to the grouped adjustment layer, it (also?) applies to the pixel layer that is outside the group. That is the bug.

I would add the HSl adj as a child layer (can be set as default in the assistant manager).
Then invert that HSL layer, and use a white brush to partially  paint the adjustment back in  ?

I am using version 1.8.6 and the problem seems still there. It seems that white or black it is the same (they make the effect apply). Only transparent make the effect not to apply.

Am I doing something wrong?
