Everyone has one feature that is going to speed up their workflow.  Unfortunately, for every person it is a different feature.  Our team is only so big, so we can only do so much at a time.  I tend to

Hi edwinm, Welcome to Affinity Forums This is already on our roadmap to be implemented soon later.

We did not pay to have to use a freeware workaround. It´s not exactly rocket science we are talking about...and they had more than 4 years of time.

The current preview is not there yet. Developers call this a MVP - Minimal Viable Product. Read up on it here:

https://blog.crisp.se/2016/01/25/henrikkniberg/making-sense-of-mvp

To use that analogy: users ask for a flying DeLorean, but get a hover board first. It kinda works, users won't exactly be happy about it, but at least it is a functional initial implementation.

To me this Preview option in the Export Settings is rather more comparable to a regular skateboard with wheels - barely functional, but it will appease users to wait for the next stage of implementation.

Not "quite there yet". At least it's a start, and hopefully by version 2.0 the export persona will have been updated with similar controls as @madonnaragu would like to see (and the rest of us). We will just have to be patient until the devs get to the flying DeLorean stage ;-)

In the meantime, use ColorQuantizer for near-perfect PNG optimization and more bells and whistles and control than any other software, free or paid!

It is only a MVP if they have bigger plans for the future and it is an early step. 😮

Otherwise it is just the product.

As a vector design program Designer is a MVP - and on top of it I have a MVP export.

  • Computer-, operating system- and software agnostic; I am a result oriented professional. Look for a fanboy somewhere else.

  • Not an Affinity user og forum user anymore. The software continued to disappoint and not deliver.

Sure, but have you checked the new export preview? It is so rudimentary, that I assume it cannot be anything else BUT a first version.

I am quite happy with many of the other improvements, though, in both Photo and Publisher.

Haven't looked at Designer yet, because I hardly use it in my work or personally.

Yes, I offered some feedback and got this response... it is an added "perk" ...

Of course, I completely agree. The only problem is that it looks that this feature has been in the works for years now, so how many more years will it take to get a proper, professional export preview?

At least they added it now - not having one was impossible to work with.

Hi Jowday, the Export Preview is just an added perk to the File > Export dialog which is essentially a 'quick export' feature. Its sole purpose is to give you a quick idea of what the export will be like without the complexity of entering the Export Persona to really fine-tune your export. Whilst I agree that a few contexual improvements would be beneficial, it is not meant to be comprehensive or feature-packed.

It's likely that this will receive some improvements in the future but we want to focus on the Export Persona which is essentially the equivelant of the export preview seen in sday, PS.

So it is very difficult to tell where the UI is heading. How will export preview evolve, how will the export persona evolve. Will they be merged one day. Will they look and work like today for years.

Purchase now what you need now.
