  1. I tried V1 and it works just as I remembered it. Smudge tool, click, release, shift click end point = straight line In both versions, there is a message at the bottom, "Drag-Shift to continue last stroke." In V2, I can smudge when drawing freehand (so any pixel layer issues can be dismissed), I just can't make a straight line unless it's horizontal or vertical.
  2. If that were true, I wouldn't have posted originally. I'm sure it works for you, but it doesn't work for me.
  3. Digital paint uses real-world terminology to help users figure out what the tools do, but how they work has little correlation to the real world. More importantly, these tools all worked the same way in the previous version of Affinity. And I have tried every conceivable variation to shift and click (hold, don't hold, alt, ctrl, etc), none of these work. I must conclude that my version has a glitch. I have worked in computer graphics for over 40 years, so I have some experience. Thanks for helping, your comments really do help.
  4. I've tried every permutation of this (I've tried the way you suggested several times). I think whatever process works with other brushes, it should be the same for this brush. The blur brush is in the same spot in the tools menu and it works both ways (click shift click, or drag shift click). But the smudge doesn't work in any way. I think my next move will be to reinstall Affinity Photo. I really appreciate your help in this.
  5. Using the paintbrush - L click, release, shift L click new point, makes a straight line to the new point in any direction. L click, hold button down, shift & drag, makes a horizontal or vertical line. Using the smudge brush - L click, release, shift L click new point, nothing happens. L click, hold button down, shift & drag, makes a horizontal or vertical line. I hope that is clear.
  6. I'm using the tool the same way I did in the previous version. I'm also using it the same way I do when I use the paintbrush, which works as I described with a shift click (I believe the same as Photoshop). You can see the instructions at the bottom of the screen.
  7. I upgraded to Affinity Photo 2.6.3. The smudge brush used to extend a stroke by holding down the shift key and left-clicking your endpoint, in the new version, it does not work. I'm running Windows 11. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a fix?
  8. How do you do that in Affinity Photo? (I don't see the icon that looks like a crosshair in my Windows version 1.1)
  9. I just started using AP and I discovered something in the preview I suspect everyone already knows about. When you select "Preview" the image is tiny, you can resize the preview borders but the image stays tiny, then when you click "More" you can make changes or no changes and then close, the preview now fills the box you resized.
