The Lightning Phoenix
Hi, I was wondering how I get two colors to blend seamlessly like in these pictures
Fixx
I usually make selection with feather that preserves areas I do not want to change and use blur or motion blur.
PixelPest
If you want a more "painterly" approach there´s the "Paint Mixer Brush" or "Blur Brush Tool" in APhoto.
Bru-US
I was really impressed with this guys techniques...if you are using Affinity Designer Alfred
The Lightning Phoenix
Thanks for all the suggestions, I realized that I forgot to mention that I'm using Designer in the original post.
The Lightning Phoenix
So, so far the best way I've gotten it is by adding a layer with the darker color and using the transparency tool, however, it feels iffy to deal with and probably won't work on more complex shapes. Does anyone know any more ways to do so in Designer in Vector mode?
PixelPest
No clue about the "complexity" of the shapes - but gradient-tool won´t work for you? Cheers
gdenby
A lot can be done w. transparency control and blend modes. But from the 2 samples in the 1st post, I'm having trouble trying to figure out exactly what you want to do. Care to offer any shots of quick trials? Or something like you are aiming to do? Bru-US
@Lightning Phoenix, one other example I can show you where "blending" is done with vectors ...is in Inkscape. If you look at it you can watch how he is doing the layering. I always thought it was remarkable that one could get these kind of effects with a vector program. The complete svg file is located here.https://www.clipartsfree.net/clipart/17500-ford-mustang-clipart.html and the video is here..Hope this helps! The Lightning Phoenix
@gdenby So these pictures may make it harder to follow, but basically what I want is basically a smooth gradient between two colors, which in probably most of my cases would be used for shading. Basically, I want to make the darker shade as the shading and use some tool to be able to smooth the transition between colors to make it look natural. @PixelPest So if you look in my third picture (the odd one out) wouldn't getting the gradient tool make it hard to control if I had the curve all the way around the head? Sorry if I'm seeming stubborn, it isn't really my intention. I basically have no experience in drawing/vector drawings, so I may be missing vital information or techniques edulofter
PixelPest
Then maybe a simple gaussian blur layer effect will do: ... and there are 4 types of gradients - not just linear. Cheers edulofter
The Lightning Phoenix
Ok thanks for the advice and help

If you open the SVG in Affinity Designer, you can see that there are 823 separate vector objects in the file, & a great many of them have Gaussian blurs applied to them so they blend with soft edges into layers below them. The Lightning Phoenix
Kinda a off topic question, but are there soft brushes in vector mode?
