I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

You need to use Justify Left.

When I click or select the last line and justify left, it applies it to the entire paragraph. I only want the last line justified left and everything else justify all.

What am I don't wrong?

Thanks

okay, I see if I use the right click and justify left it works. I was using the tool bar justify left

This was the key for me!  Thanks so much :)

It shouldn't matter, and both should work. The justification settings apply to full paragraphs, and Justify Left means "Justify All, except for the last line which is Aligned Left."

Walt, I have the same problem, and have had it forever. If I select a paragraph and then select Justify Left, all of the paragraph is justified right and left, and the last line is not aligned left. I have two words on the last line. The first word is justified left, the second is justified right, leaving a big blank space between the two. Maybe the problem is that I have 2 paragraphs within the same Text Box?

Can you supply a sample Affinity document that demonstrates that? I would be interested in seeing it.

Sure. I just discovered that this only happens when I force a line break within a paragraph. (If I merely hit the Enter button, the program skips a space. I haven't tried changing the settings to "do not insert a space between lines within a paragraph when the Enter button is pressed", because I can't find out how/where to do that. Maybe you can help me with that. (Someday, someone will publish a User Manual for Affinity...maybe!)

Thanks for your help.

The comprehensive Help which is accessible from within the app is also available online.

Affinity Publisher 2 Help: Leading and inter-paragraph spacing

Quote

To adjust inter-paragraph spacing:

  • From the Paragraph panel, alter the Space Before Paragraph and Space After Paragraph settings in the Spacing section. You may also opt to tick the Sum space before and after and Ignore space for same styles checkboxes depending on how you would like your text spacing to appear in these circumstances.

‘Space After Paragraph’ is non-zero by default, so that you get a clear separation between paragraphs even when there is no first-line indent.

Thanks.

When you force a line break that way, your short line is no longer the last line of the paragraph, and therefore it is correctly and fully justified, just like every other non-last line.

GeoffersB, when I use "Justify Left", it fully justifies everything in the paragraph including the last line (which formatting I don't want).

It's working fine for me. Here are four paragraphs, showing Justify Left, Justify Centre, Justify Right, and Justify All. Could you share a document or screenshot showing the problem you're experiencing?

What do you mean? How did you share the clip that you posted?

When you select the entire frame with the Move tool, the button's icon will reflect the first paragraph and not necessarily all of the paragraphs. With the frame selected, try clicking the button again. If the is the issue that should fix it.

Good luck.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I used a "clipping" utility to clip the section of the desired section of the screen I wish to clip, or the entire screen, then save it to a folder. Then "Choose files" and go to the folder. etc.

But I'd kind of like to focus on my problem at hand, namely, a solution to the problem I'm having with the last line of the paragraph being fully justified.  I have read Alfred's and Walt's ruminations, and I agree that forcing a new paragraph may be the issue. Is it not possible to left justify the last line of a forced paragraph?

Left Justify button is activated.

You probably are using Line Breaks (Shift+Enter) rather than Paragraph Breaks (Enter) after each of those lines you think are end of paragraph. If so, they aren't. They're in the middle of the paragraph.

Enabling Text > Show Special Characters would let you see that.

You need to use Enter and a real Paragraph Break. If you were using Line Breaks to keep everything single-spaced, you may need to adjust the Space After setting for the paragraph, which defaults to 12 pt. You would need to set it to 0, perhaps.

This doesn't work for me, or maybe I'm misunderstanding. Anyway, I appreciate that you tried to help me. I'll try to figure out a workaround.

Walt, please explain. Yes, those lines LOOK like they are at the end of a paragraph. Am I in a parallel universe or something? LOL  It's the last line of what I was always taught was a paragraph. But unfortunately, I went to a Government school.  Maybe that's the problem.
