loafcycle
as an affinity product an affinity animator software would be welcome. a competitor to adobe after effects . My suggestion is to bring aboard companies to co create the app (together they will make a superior product than standalone ). The following are examples of companies with animation softwares at reasonable prices with features that if all put together would be a great app: http://www.roughanimator.com/ https://www.keyshapeapp.com/ http://creature.kestrelmoon.com/ https://kiteapp.co/ https://creaceed.com/morphage/about http://www.coreanimator.com/#animate-anything-anywhere https://www.reallusion.com/crazytalk-animator/ I suggest that someone open up to making these companies come together with serif to make affinity animator :) Have a nice day, today is father's day in Portugal, happy fathers day to all parents :) malayali, predick and TheOkster
TheOkster
I'd love this! There aren't really that many good After Effects alternatives right now and it would be amazing if Affinity would add it predick

Hi @loafcycle, I'm sorry to dissapoint your expectations. This has been requested several times and there is an answer to this by an official from Serif: Cheers, anyway. d. I would check Fusion, from the people that produces Davinci Resolve. But not the one embedded in Resolve, but the Fusion that's distributed apart. It seems a really nice program to do similar stuff to what After Effects do. I've seen production quality work, and it DOES seems great... Compared to Affinity almost anything looks expensive. But the price, compared to a cloud subscription, is VERY cheap, and purchase-only, as a bunch of us so much love. 300 $ for the Fusion package, or 300 $ for Davinci Resolve. I've read that the Resolve's integrated Fusion's version is quite less capable than the standalone Fusion, not sure till what extent. The AMAZING thing with this people is that you can use the free version for A LOT. I've installed versions in the past, to test, you mostly have limits for quite high end stuff, very in pro side, and even so, it depends on what would you need it for ! The most remarkable limit is export resolution. Still, they allow a quite generous resolution. Just not full, real 4k. (but close enough for many projects). The capability to use endlessly their apps until you've proved to your self you are actually efficient with it and is no risk to go ahead and purchase, is priceless. So, those 300$ per each (or just Davinci Resolve, if you need only some functionality of the After Effects kind, but a lot of the video editing kind) , are just fine. A bit more complex to sell a lot of licenses ( I don't know if their business is going well), but is quite a fair price for products of this type. I'll get them at some point. You can check a comparison table of the Fusion free and the paid one : https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/fusion/compare With this to consider (and hitfilm, etc), compete with products like these makes less sense than focus on what they have (and mostly photography / design / general image editing).... is just my opinion, though. I literally just started a thread the other day asking people if they thought this was something that is in the works or may happen in the future. I think it's important for them to do if they truly want to compete with adobe.
v_kyr
Well not really... Let's see what the future will bring here, there are actually bitmap and vector image apps for two desktop platforms and the iPad. Add to that soon a new upcoming desktop publishing app. A lot of people already asked after DAM, webdesign and video software, now let's add also animation software. - Looks like the user base software wish portofolio grows over time. If Serif would have as many employees and resources as Adobe or MS etc., I would say fine why not they can give it a try. But momentary I would say they better concentrate on their main core areas instead, so optimize the existing software and keep it competitive (cause the competition doesn't sleep). Polygonius
As a GUI-creator for music/VSTi - frontends and dynamic tools, like knobs, faders... multi-text.... i would fisrt of all need simple math/polygon animation, like in the free (java) JKnobman. And this as part of AD/AP. From that point there is a lot possible, but animating in a very simple "math way" should be a basic part of a modern design-tool. So please serif, just study/implement/offer simple "math" animation as your base and offer just this (rudimentary, but solid) as part of an existing product. Wahts about your DAM? How many years, in the meantime, you are not happy with a final "raw-app" or just better-finder-catalouge? In the meantime just a quick&dirty spotlight/windows search "catalogue" inside AP - what is soooo difficult by using existing libraries/tools (eg. spotlight/i-tunes-like-"amart-albums"... are very power-full... search e.g. for all texture-images by name/date/size/last edited/folder....address it in how many "places" you want... its all since years always given AND free to use....)... Alll YOU have to do: just create an Access to this "library" (wich is the finder) .... WE use this imperfect solution, during you can use this as inspiration-tool for how to do an better App! Win/win! Same for tracing... and so on... Please Serif, have some COJONES to "implement" experimental stuff. Just say "Thats experimental, do not use it, if you except a ready feature! . We do not give any warranty or support!" What is better by give absolutely NO solution, instead to give an imperfect meantime-solution, without any warranty/support? SrPx
It's their product, their decisions and their road map. Rude tone never got anything positive, BTW. The cojones expression (specially for us who speak Spanish), very out of the line, specially as indeed they have quite some of those with all what they have mounted while the top dog is still reigning with all the market and money in its favor. About the DAM need... if what you want is a dirty solution...what's soooooo difficult in using XNView, or even just Irfan View ? LOL. Anyway, as if there was not already EXTREMELY good animation software available, even free. I have animated at some companies, and what you want is definitely no big deal -AT ALL- with a great amount of available software. Free and whatnot. You have absolutely no say on how they conduct their business. Even more, if you go to the mall, and if a product in a shelf does not go with your preference, do you shout at it? Get mad with the employees because you had a bad day? Or just look for another product better fitting your needs , in another shelf ? Or use some neuron, and realize that you get what you pay for, (50 bucks versus many many hundreds, and even so is only renting) and you might get some fair solution even if with some need to compensate some lacks with other tools. You pay less of what a second hand car costs and expect to get a high end Audi or Ferrari ? As for the matter itself, there's already some talk here : https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/82283-animations-and-video/&do=findComment&comment=433923 Plus, for some 3D-2D anim, I'd even just toon render 3D animation, using the super powerful and free Blender.
