PDF import, PDF Page Boxes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I. Standard PDF import

  1. When I click to import the PDF page 1:1 the page is not shown corectly.
  2. Also, when I drag to resize the PDF page while importing, it is shown differently then in no. 1.
  3. Please, offer us a page range to import.

II. With Page boxes

  • Page boxes does not work corectly. I attached the PDF file (boi na muzej.pdf) I used to import and there are various kind of problems with the page box. Here are some of them: Just try all options from page boxes and you will see that they don't work as it should.

III. Other

  1. My opinion is that page box options should be offered while importing PDF file, not when it is already imported (InDesign)
  2. When importing PDF page(s) there must be an option for embedding or linking the images.
  3. When I try to import multipage PDF file, Publisher offers me to link the pictures instead of embedding, which is correct. But, when I click "Yes" to accept linking and then click on a document page (A4 format) to place the first page I got only a thumbnail of the page (see the wrong size.png attachment) and the real size of imported page is 126 x 236 mm. Also, when I start resizing the thumbnail in one moment it stops showing the linked image(s). The second page and the others are not possible to import.

Hi Petar

Thanks for the file. There seems to a be couple of reports on this so I am collating them and passing them on to the development team.

In terms of PDF pages, the whole document is placed. Once you place a multipage PDF you should have the option to select which page or spread of that PDF you wish to display on the context toolbar.

Sorry Chris. I don't think I understand you well. Would you be so kind and explain it to me more thoroughly?

Sorry that should be multi page not multi stage. But if you have a PDF of say 4 pages, and you place that PDF into Publisher, only a single page will be displayed at a time but on the context toolbar there is a drop down to select which of the 4 pages you want to be displayed. As it is a placed document you cannot display all pages at once so you would need to place the PDF multiple times for different pages to be used in the same document.

You can do a similar thing with artboards from afdesign files too

Just a question about your PDF you attached in your first post did it originate from InDesign at all?

No, it is from CorelDRAW latest version, not X5 as it is shown at Mike's post.

Thanks, Chris.

I agree with Petar. Page, which box, etc absolutely needs to be on the Place dialog. Doing it post-placing is a dumb means. Oh, and there needs to be a preview of the PDF in the Place dialog and changes to which page and which box also needs to be displayed.

As it is, Trim box is completely broken. But switching to one of the boxes post placing, while "resizing" it correctly within its frame, is completely useless. Try double-clicking to open in a new editing window. Sucks.

Sorry, but I can't find this drop down.

I know that in Designer, when you try to import multiple images, there is a drop down menu with all imported images shown, to place them one-by-one into objects, but I can't find such in Publisher if it was that what you thought of.

The PDF should be accurate in the creator metadata. Here's the same PDF opened in v.2018 and a new PDF produced.

Hmmm.

I think that Affinity should enter a new feature if only it is prepared to all OS's and hardware. This way some users (usually Windows ones) are disciminated. Yes, I would like to have Mac Book Pro or iMac very much, but I can't afford it right now, so why to be put aside from the others?

I too am getting this malfunction when importing PDFs now. It comes in at a tiny size and changing page box options enlarges the image but not the box it's in giving a cropped version. "Edit image" button calls up screen of whole PDF and shows the page boxes are way off size and position. See attached.
