tersmuse
Designer How do I skew an object vertically. Horizontally via the Transform window, but how vertical? I have rotated the object 90 degrees, but Designer remembers that, and scales horizontally as before. Is vertically skew not possible? Staff MEB Posted August 3, 2018 Staff Share Posted August 3, 2018 Hi tersmuse, Welcome to Affinity Forums For skewing vertically you need to subtract the same value (used in the Skew filed) in the Rotation field (you can simply type -=s into the rotation field). So for example set 30º in the Skew field and -30º in the rotation field to skew vertically 30º. Aammppaa
Or do it directly on the page… https://affinity.help/designer/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=/ObjectControl/rotateShear.html?title=Rotating and shearing objects Quote Win10 Home x64 | AMD Ryzen 7 2700X @ 3.7GHz | 48 GB RAM | 1TB SSD | nVidia GTX 1660 | Wacom Intuos Pro
MickRose
If you select the object and hover just outside the 4 nodes in between the corners you see a double arrow with the heads pointing in opposite directions. These will skew the object and its much easier than using the Transform panel. The Ctrl key acts as a modifier for symmetric skewing. tersmuse
Only the tip from MEB worked, everything else didn't ... Not user-friendly, but it works thanks
h_d
As @MickRose says, if you hover your mouse pointer just outside one of the top, left, bottom or middle handles on a selected object, it will turn into two arrows pointing in opposite directions. You can then skew the object in any direction you wish, using the mouse. The Command key gives a symmetric effect on OSX. The help documentation refers to "skew" as "shear": Quote Affinity Photo 2.0.3, Affinity Designer 2.0.3, Affinity Publisher 2.0.3, Mac OSX 13, 2018 MacBook Pro 15" Intel. The on canvas method does work, but the area around the four side handles that change the cursor into the shear ones are very small, so you have to position the arrow cursor carefully just outside one of those handles for one of them to appear. Guess I have a different version of ADesigner as this doesn't happen to me. I think @tersmuse might be talking about scaling/shearing in the Transform panel, because when an object is rotated, the anchor points also rotate. tersmuse
@h_d It does work. You have to set the cursor outside, then you see the icon change. I have found another solution: Right mouse click > Transform > Flip Vertical Thanks for your help
