When I cut a certain section out of a picture, is there a way to have that selection 'deselect' automatically?
It's kinda annoying having to click 'select/deselect' from the menu every time....

AFAIK not, but you can set a shortcut for this (and afaik for all stuff which you find in any menu)

Properties > shortcuts > First tab: Photo  / Second Tab: Selection and then "deselect"

A quick way to deselect is to press the Escape (Esc) key

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

That doesn’t ever remove a ‘marching ants’ pixel selection, does it? :/

Er yer'huh, it does. I use ESC to get out of things all the time, it never works in jail though, no matter how many times I press it lol!

This is exactly the command I was looking for.

I knew there must be a quick and easy way to deselect.

Thank you!!
