I do share the surprise that this request has been ignored for so long. Perhaps I am imagining it, but it seemed in earlier versions of the suite (around 1.6) these type of updates were far more common that with the current version.

Sweet jesus - how hard can it be to write RGB values to a plist file?

It's more than that. For example, there's the dialog to allow the changing. Also, since Guides are saved with the document, there's potentially the need to change the document format to allow saving the color.

So put the two fields in the document setup panel. Have one for margin, one for other guides (they're speced in the code anyway).

That would solve 90% of the issues people have. This has been solved by other applications.

@walt.farrell Does that mean we need to change the guide color every time we work with a new document? That’s definitely not good!

If by "new document" you mean a document you are creating via File > New, you can create a Document Template with all the settings (such as Guide colors) that you want, and then start your new document by using that Template, rather than using a Document Preset.

@walt.farrell That's a workaround for a problem that shouldn't exist. Also, it doesn't work for images taken with a camera or downloaded from the internet.

Guide colours are a document attribute which means they are saved with the document

In some of my documents I have blue guides, red guides, green guides, purple guides and black and white guides depending on the colour(s) of the image/document I am working on at the time

The ability to change the default guide colour would not be much use to me, unless I worked mostly on images/documents that required the same guide colour.

As it is the default blue colour works fine for me on most of the stuff I work with but I guess others may have a need to change it

Such as those working with blueprints or those with specific eye vision conditions

So, unless it's an easy "fix" I don't think it will be high up on Affinity's schedule, considering their current workload

So, workarounds are all you have right now, like macros in APhoto which can set guide colour & even some default guides (if you need them)

PS Those same macros will work on Publisher documents via the Photo Persona
