Cookbook Cover Experiment

Recommended Posts

Just something I was pottering around with for no good reason.

Nothing special, just thought it might possibly be of some slight interest to someone.

My inspiration (what I nicked the idea wholesale from) is the cover of a book from the 70’s by Julia Child.

It was crying out for a graphic!

@GarryP  I could use your cover!  Or perhaps, @carl123's.  I have the 1966 printing, and it is definitely tired.  Even the taped-together parts need taping.

I’m wondering what the graphic might have been if I stuck with the book’s original title of “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. (as can be seen in jmwellborn’s image).

Thanks for sharing that.

I was working from a fairly small ‘thumbnail’ image so I didn’t get my version quite right (it wasn’t meant to be an exact reproduction but it’s nice to try and make it better).

I might update my version at some point with a few changes.

(Looks like you could do with the help of TV’s The Repair Shop, but a book in that state looks like it’s been loved and used often and that’s good to see.)

Fixed it for you. (Just needed a bit of Gaffer tape and a blue pen)

I know nothing about French Cuisine so I would have had to improvise.

@GarryP  Definitely need “The Repair Shop”, except that nobody is going to be able to clean up all those stains from “Veau Prince Orloff”, p. 355, or the awful mess on pp. 677-678, “Reine de Saba.”  Son is a superb lawyer, but death on cookbooks.

@carl123 Thank you🎉.  Now for the spine and the back cover . . . .
