Failing to run past the startup screen!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I thought I would add this post so that people would see it if they're in this situation and know what to do... It seems that a number of users are getting a problem where the application begins to launch, displays the splash screen and then immediately exits.

At present, we are trying to track down the reason for this as it has not arisen in any of our alpha testing which covered a large number of different PC setups. If you are experiencing the problem described above, we would appreciate any information that you may be able to give us regarding your computer setup. If possible, would you be able to post a reply here which states:

1. Windows Version

2. CPU type

3. Graphics card make/model

4. Do you have any active virus scanner/firewall software?

We really are very sorry about this and want to sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. We will get this problem resolved and an updated Beta will be uploaded as soon as we can possibly identify the cause.

Thanks in advance for your patience - we will get this sorted!

Matt

Not sure if this helps, but following the startup quit, I looked in Windows 7 Event Viewer, and found the most recent entry related to the Designer.exe. It seems to relate to NET 4.0. See the log entry below:

Each time I've tried running the app, the same Event Viewer log entry is generated, so the error is consistent.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread - I understand that you're all disappointed, and so are we - at least with your help we stand a chance of finding and fixing whatever is causing this issue. Many thanks again,

Matt

craftycurate,

Thanks for the event dump - that looks like the issue!!

Exception Info: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception

   at MS.Win32.UnsafeNativeMethods.GetDC(System.Runtime.InteropServices.HandleRef)
   at System.Windows.Interop.HwndTarget..ctor(IntPtr)

Can anyone else confirm that they see the same thing in Event Manager?

Thanks,

Andy.

Hi everyone,

this first happend to me after some heavy testing when  AD crashed, I was not able to start it again. So I uninstalled and reinstalled it - with no luck.  Then I searched and found a file ...Serif\Affinity Designer\1.0 (Beta) renamed it and It WORKED AGAIN!

I still have the culprit file 1.0 (Beta) saved for the Devs - I can send you the file if it helps.

Great App, can't wait to buy it when it is released :).
