Red tint / red cast printing since Update 2.4.0 - Affinity Publisher 2

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I had no problems with printing in the past, but since patch 2.4 all printings have an extreme red tint / red cast. I tried it on another computer, where Publisher had no update and it worked. After it I also updated this one and I had the same problem again. What's wrong? I use Windows 11.

Thanks a lot
Nico

Hi Vehmann,

The red tint on the print dialog means that your document is too big to fit the page size set by the printer. I would check your printer drivers to see what the default page size is, alternatively you can change it using the Layout > Paper Size option (like I did in the second screenshot below). Alternatively you can use 'Fit Type: Fit to Printable' to resize it so it fits the defined paper size.

A4 document with page size defined by printer driver

A4 document with Paper Size overridden to be A5 - note the tint as the A4 is too big for A5.

Thanks for the answer, but sorry - I don't talk about the page size warning. Actually my printed picture on a sheet of paper is a way to red.
Note: Same problem on Photo 2. Without update: No problem. With update: red tint.

Hi Vehmann,

I've just tried it using an RGB/8 document with an sRGB profile and they appear to be fine for me when printing in 2.3 and 2.4 (I don't have a scanner so you'll have to make do with a photo, where I've tried to reduce the glare). Note on the zoomed in picture, 2.3 is on the left and 2.4 is on the right).

I've attached the afphoto file I printed using a Sharp MX-2651 Colour Laser Printer.

Could you save a copy of the Affinity document you're printing and attach that please?

Thank you very much. I appreciate your help!
While printing from your document, everything is fine. So it's time to figure out which settings has to be readjusted after 2.4

Edit:
Printing from RGB looks fine, but I need to work with CMYK for most of my work. The question is - Why did it work before 2.4?

Thanks for the document! I can indeed reproduce it with your document and would agree with it being down to CMYK. I'll get it passed along to development to be fixed. Unfortunately I'm not syet ure exactly what has changed to cause the regression. :(

Thank you for taking the time out and letting us know.

Thank you for taking the time too!
Hopefully a solution can be found.

From the afpub it seems a gif in origin and perhaps the limited color range for the gif format may be in play here.

It is nothing to do with GIFs as far as I can tell. Whilst the file appears to have come from EZGif it is a JPG. However I can reproduce it when printing regular JPGs on a CMYK document.

Provided you've not downloaded the app from the Microsoft Store you can. Please see the links below for the relevant installers, though you will have to first uninstall 2.4.0:

If you have used the Microsoft Store, you can register your purchase against an Affinity ID and then use the builds above to sign into that ID and run those builds.

For mac readers/users the equivalent links are:

Is there a similar procedure for Mac App Store purchases?

Exactly the same procedure. As long as you have linked the Mac App Store purchase to your Affinity ID, you can download from Serif instead, and install that instead of the Mac App Store version.

Hi Vehmann,

I was actually re-testing this fix yesterday and unfortunately I'm still not 100% happy with the fix. It is now working if you use the 'Colour Handling: Performed By App' option within the Print dialog (which is the default option), however switching to 'Performed By Printer', it is still problematic, so I've had to reopen the issue.

You should see the partial fix in the upcoming 2.4.2 build (keep an eye on the Beta forums if you wish to try it out), however as I said above, there are some instances where it is still incorrect, so it has been reopened for further investigation.

Theres no change. I still have this issue ...

It would not be changed unless you're trying the 2.4.2 beta build which was just announced about a minute before your post.

Yes, The developers have addressed this issue in 2.4.2 on Windows in a way that is safe for a short beta cycle. If it is found to need more work we will need to try again during the longer 2.5.0 beta cycle.
