Text on Path and Circle - Affinity Designer Tutorial

Recommended Posts

Nice summary, thanks.

As for the "shape goes away", it doesn't: it only loses its fill and stroke attributes.
Technically, the shape obviously morphes into an "open text frame". As such, the fill and stroke attributes (as well as Show/Hide Overflow) are then editable in Publisher's Text Frame panel.

And that's only true in Designer and Photo. In Publisher, the stroke and fill are maintained.

Yes, and it's "by design". I vaguely remember this being an issue a while back, exactly because there was no way to edit text frame attributes in ADe and APh.
(Well, on Mac there's a cute trick… errr, bug, of course, to invoke the Text Frame panel – and other "goodies" – in all Affinity v1 apps anyway. I've made quite a few posts about it here. ;) Sadly, this "bug" has been "fixed" in v2.)

Yes. The Stroke and Fill are removed automatically in the applications that don't provide a way to set the values you want.

Thanks, I may have worded it poorly. It is true that the shape is technically still there. But I think it is impossible to add a stroke in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, right? Hence my warning that people should copy the path if they plan to use it later for a stroke or fill.

I just checked Affinity Publisher and it seems like it can maintain the stroke via the Text Frame widget as you say. But I don't see that in Designer or Photo.

Right. Publisher maintains the Stroke and Fill, and you can subsequently change it via the Text Frame panel.

Designer and Photo do not have the Text Frame panel, so the Stroke and Fill are removed and if you want them you must duplicate the object (as you mentioned).

You can easily recreate the stroke & fill at any time afterwards if needed (for both Designer and APhoto)

Useful for complex paths etc
