Tools and other settings modified with update

Recommended Posts

I just installed AD 2.3.0 (2096) and many of my personnel settings from the last version are gone. This is on a 27" 2018 mac running Sonoma.

My tools were changed back to what I thought was the default, but it's not.  It's just different.

View > Show Pixel Grid had been off and now it's on.

View > Show Bleed had been off and now it's on.

I had a Snapping preset, but don't any longer.

The left and right studios were NOT changed.

It looks like everything in Settings have NOT been changed.

My Toolbar looks to be okay.

That's what I have found so far.

Are you comparing the settings with what you had on 2.2.1 retail or with what you had on 2.2.1 beta? The retail and beta versions do not share settings.

Just looking at P for pencil instead of pen, could you share a screenshot of your shortcuts settings? I have P and N for Pen and Pencil.

What happens if you click Serif Defaults?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was an issue, my Frame vs. Art Text shortcuts were messed up in Publisher.

Hi Mike, this is Mike,

I have already changed all the items that I found wrong.  So I can't provide a screen shot.  But Pen, Corner, Gradient, Brush, Contour & Transparency tools didn't have any shortcut. N was on the Cat Tool.  P was on the Pencil Tool. Z was on the Color Picker and I was on Zoom. B was on something other than Brush, but I don't remember what.

I found that in the released Designer shortcuts there are 5 entries for Emoji & Symbols in the Edit section (4 are duplicates), there are none such in the Beta.  Possibly when these were being removed it jumbled the rest.  I also found that Show Pixel Grid is a new entry to Shortcuts (and the View menu), maybe that addition caused the jumble.

I didn't try the defaults.  I wanted to actually see the differences so I compared the released and the Beta.  And I know I was keeping them the same.

Thanks for the input.

Thanks for those images - they're incredibly helpful. I've just customised my toolbar using the 2.2.1 Beta like your Before shows and get the same after using 2.3. I suspect the edition of the Spiral Tool has made it go awry! I'll get this logged.

Regarding the Keyboard Shortcuts, Show Bleed and Snapping Presets, I've not yet tried these, but will do. Lastly 2.2.1 didn't have 'Show Pixel Grid' so that being enabled is correct behaviour.

I have also found that many of the shortcuts for tools in Settings are missing.

Keyboard shortcuts got pretty messed up and duplicated after importing settings from retail v2.2.1 where I use many custom shortcuts.

I figured that the best procedure would be to start over, so I reset the v2.3b shortcuts to Apple Default, and then rebuilt them one section after another manually by visually comparing to the v2.2.1 Settings window. Well, that took quite some time last night – I managed to fix ADe only so far – but I can at least report that the longstanding bugs with duplicate entries, shortcuts not sticking in secondary personas, or [ and ] being "irreplaceable", they all appear to be fixed, finally! :)

Are your 2.2.1 Retail keyboard shortcuts the same as your beta were? If so could you export out a copy of your shortcuts and attach please?

For what it is worth, in the toolbar, my initial download of AD 2.3.1 included the Spiral tool twice.  One on its own and one with the little arrow. The vector fill tool and the eyedropper were nowhere to be seen. I deleted one of the spiral icons, added some more tools that I wanted and closed the panel, and tried to create a new document. AD crashed and would not open again. CTRL + click on the dock to open worked. My changes were there.

Hi Sean, I am assuming you no longer need an export of my shortcuts.  If that is not correct I will be glad to do that.  Just let me know.

Dang, I just finished a drawing that I had to manually create a few decaying spirals.  If I had just waited a few weeks...  I haven't done more than playing with it but it looks like the decaying spiral would have done exactly what I needed.  I think I'm going to be using that a fair amount.  Thank you for that and your help.

If possible I would avoid 'fixing' them in the current build, as the fix will likely undo any changes you make now.

Too late but thanks for the warning.  It wasn't too bad fixing it and I can do it again if needed.
