tables in Affinity Design

Recommended Posts

In the past I'd copied and pasted tables from Publisher into Design and this worked well, but now this no longer seems to work. if you now try this it beaks the table into component parts ie: you lose all table functions.

I'd had a look at video tutorials online and searched the internet and forums for the same question. Is there a table function in design, I cannot find a tool or palette to deal with tables. This seems like an obvious function to have in Design, is it really limited to Publisher?

I'm sure someone knows the answer to this?

Copying and pasting works fine here.

Double clicking the Table with the Move Tool should allow you to edit it as a table but there is no access to the table panels so advance table editing is not available

We may need screenshots or a video if the above does not resolve your issues

Hi @netera,

I'm also able to copy and paste table type layers into Designer with no problem, but as Carl's mentioned you are quite limited when editing tables in Designer due to the lack of the table tool and panels, I've checked in V1 and this is essentially the same limitations. Tables and editing tables are intentionally exclusive feature of Publisher.

This is really odd, something changed in V2 as you used to be able to fully edit table, albeit without the panels.

See sreen shot of an old label I just opened in design from V1.

I can even duplicate this within the program. You can see the table panels still show up.

I can still do it (with the limitations mentioned before, due to lack of the Table panel) in V2 and V2 Beta.

Here's 2.1.1:

Thank you very much for the video. Nice.

Well, no matter what I do I cannot replicate this, once pasted into Design it only allows selection, double clicking with move tool shows table node points.
Thats it.

I wonder what is diffeent, I have 2.1.1: installed as well.

Opps, I mean 2.2.0: (Publisher).
2.1.1: Photo and Design

Perhaps that is the problem?

So, why not try it with Publisher 2.1.1 to see?

Oh I see what happened. 2.2.0 was released by mistake.
Now I have a problem, as I am working on a file that no longer opens. In swapping back to 2.1.1: I can no longer open it.
Can I get access to 2.2.0. so I can carry on?

Wow, what a total nightmare, in stopping to fix a small problem, I now have a massive problem.

Hi,

either I'm doing something completely wrong, or the table tool in Affinity is a joke.

I've tried to create a table in publisher, as I've understood that designer can't do it. I failed miserably, therefore I created the table in MS Word. Then I copied it into Publisher, which resulted in one decent column and the rest not only cryptic symbols as Affinity couldn't find the standard font, but I can fix that in Word. But the real problem is, that the table is not inserted as a table, but as hundreds of individual little text boxes! There is no way I can control cells, rows or columns as a whole.

Is this what it is meant to be?
