  1. I would like to second this. I was hoping, in V2 there would be an option to open a picture as a layer as opposed to a new file or the "Place..." workaround. I really miss this option. At the moment it would be the easiest thing for a print template by the print shop to open it in my document as a layer and check, whether my document fits properly. The "Place..." command doesn't help a bit and defeats the purpose, as I can and have to adjust the size of the imported picture in my document. Obviously next time I will use the template beforehand, but nevertheless I come across lots of situations, where it would be easy and quick just to open a file as a layer in my active document.
  2. Good morning, what do you mean by saving it to a temporary file? I can't open it so I can't save it again.
  3. Dear Dan, Oh what a shame... I have parts of it as backup, but the actual document is the only one I have. Well thanks a lot for trying, hopefully the file will help for further development. If you do manage, I would be very happy to hear from you again.
  4. Hi, thank you very much! I have just uploaded the file. I have Windows 10, Affinity Designer 1.10.6.1665, SSD Drive. I have modified the file, exported a pdf, a png and a jpg, resized it once I think to A4 or from A4 to A3, then closed it. Next time I wanted to open it, I got this error message. Thank you for your help! best regards from Vienna, Nico
  5. Hi, I have the same problem. Suddenly instead of opening I get a message: The file appears to be corrupted. I can't open it, also the way of "Add pages from file..." didn't help. Can I send the file, so that one of you can have a look, whether it can be fixed at all? Many thanks, nico
  6. Bingo! If I change the colour space of the document to RGB all extra lines are gone. If I have it on CMYK, they are there, no matter what profile I use in the Export>more... menu.
  7. Thank you very much for the many suggestions and explanations! I will try everything you said, and there is a lot that I didn't know. I have started a new document and had the same effect. Therefore I tend to think, it is independent of my objects (colour change or rasterising, antialiasing,...), but rather one of the very first of your suggestions, some mismatch of colour profile. Thanks again, when I have found the solution, I will let you know. lg from Vienna, niki
  8. Hi, I have tried everything I could think of. I have two artboards and a few objects and text, and from one saving point to the next I got all these outlines. They can only be seen when viewed on black background (e.g. my graphics viewer), but I want discreet edges for print and not white or grey outlines, wherever they came from. Also it seems to me (but it might be an optical illusion), that some of the stripes are not black. I did check every single object in depth, and I can't find anything other than black 000 or a stroke anywhere. What else can I try? I forgot to mention, it is a transparent background with black objects and I exported it to png. I have sorted out the uneven pixels as mentioned in the below thread, it didn't help.
  9. Sorry, I've found them after all! It is under View>Show text rulers
  10. Hi, I found this video very useful, but I'm having one problem with it. I don't have these little triangles to move around along the ruler! Where do I switch them into view? I've attached a screenshot. Thanks a lot! lg niki
  11. Wow, thanks for your efforts! I see there are really lots of different ways and I appreciate your input. I'm going to try it all out, the last option from Paul should be my last resort, as I need 10 different disks. I'll be growing old using this method 10 times more lg nicollen
  12. Hello, I would like to make a cesar disk. It's for encoding and decoding secret texts for children. It consists of two turnable disks of paper with the alphabet and other symbols or numbers on it. Everybody knows them. I thought, if I have to make 10 different ones, it would be an easy task with Designer. I made a circle and a center, I wrote the alphabet letters around the inside of the circle, printed it out in the desired size, perfekt. But now to the second, inner disk. I thought I just change the font to some numbers or symbol font, adjust the font size and spacing, print it out a smaller size, and finished. But I don't manage. The symbol font seems to overlay itself in several spirals and no matter what I try, I cannot adjust its spacing, so that it spreads out evently around the circle as before. I can manage with some ancient gothic font, but not with the symbols. If I make the spacing wider or narrower, it just moves the symbols in even more spiralling around. Who can help me? Attached is the file. The little block on top is like control field, so that I can see that the adjustment turns out correct in the end as the disks have to match up. thanks, nicolleen Caesarscheiben_innereScheibe_58mm.afdesign
  13. Hi again! You are right, it was set on conical, that´s why I never had do move the gradient handle from horizontal to vertical. This time I did it right and it worked!! Thanks a lot, I´ve learned a lot today! Have a nice evening, niki
  14. Aaaaah!! Thanks to both of you! Found it! I didn´t understand I had to look for Studio. I know the idea from PagePlus (Serif) and I do use it often. Great, thanks! lg niki
  15. That´s phantastic, thanks a lot for your work!! I did manage everything according to your great tutorial! The only thing that I can´t get to work right: I set the color on stroke and fill to None. I do get the two colour gradient when I use my new brush, but the colour is somehow different, a bit like desaturated. Sometimes it jumps to grey and white, then I have to reset stroke to no color. But I don´t get the colour of my new brush. In my example it happened to be pink, but when I use the brush, it is some old greyish pink, even though the brush seems all right and the color is everywhere set to none. What can that be? Thanks again! lg from Vienna niki
  16. Hi, thanks for your reply, now it´s becoming clear. Nevertheless, I´m sorry, I have searched everywhere, I can´t find an "assets panel". Do you mean my general panels like brushes etc.? I can import styles, brushes and so on. But no assets anywhere to be seen. When I got this kit along with the programme for free, I thought it was some kind of an asset collection. But as I understand it now, it is something used for programming, which I certainly don´t need. Am I wrong? lg niki
  17. Sorry to bother you again. How did you get those colourful brushes? I don´t see where I can change the colour of a brush, let alone the horizontal gradient on the brush itself..?
  18. Sorry I don´t understand at all how to install this Grade UI kit. The instructions don´t mention at all where to put the files after download. Can you help me? lg niki
  19. Reglico That´s amazing, thank you for your efforts! I fiddled around with the brush on the left side menus. Now I understand. Merci beaucoup! niki
  20. Thank you very much! The fx function is very neat and easy to use. I´m still struggling with the brush method. I haven´t managed yet to choose the brush settings while keeping the line selected. I guess I´m still lacking some basics with the software.
  21. Ah, I understand what you mean by breaking the line. I still can´t get the gradient to work on my line :-(
  22. Wow, thank you very much for your reply and work, that´s exactly what I wanted to achieve! I´m new to Designer and not an expert in vector graphics. I tried what I understood, but the gradient goes from the beginning to the line to the end, and not from one side to the other. Can you explain to me what you mean by "breaking the line" and how I´m to apply the brush in this example? I did find some mode, where the brush shows a gradient along the line, but I couldn´t figure out, how the hell to tame this feature..! lg niki
  23. Hi, can I draw a gradient along a curve, path or another shape than circle, ellipse or straight line in Affinity Designer? How can I do this? I would like to make a curved border appear rounded and bevelled. The attached picture is just simply for illustrating my purpose. thank you niki
