Regarding "Freestyler" by Ian Barnard

Recommended Posts

I purchased this as I needed the Pinboard effect.

Ideally I would have liked a vector fill of evenly spaced dots - if there is an Add On which provides this then please direct me to it.

However, I have cut the edges to the shape needed but the dots are too large, can I control  their size?

With thanks, in anticipation, Stephen

Hard to tell without seeing any screenshot etc. of your dots vector fill attempts so far.

Hi @Stephen in Hertfordshire,

I can confirm that as shown on the Affinity Store page for this product, these are provided as Raster Brushes for Affinity Designer/Photo and are not Vector based, my apologies.

Unfortunately I don't believe that any of the add-ons currently for sale on the Affinity Store directly will achieve this, though you may be able to find other resources for sale through third party stores, or perhaps in the relevant section of the Affinity Forums - such as the Seamless Pattern Overlay (Dots) kit that StuartRC has kindly created.

For the specific brushes you have purchased, you can adjust the size of the textured used for the raster brush stroke, however this will only apply to new brush strokes made after the change, you cannot retroactively edit pixel brush strokes that are already on your canvas.

To do this, select the Pinboard Brush in the Brushes Studio, then select More on the Context Toolbar to open the brush editor. Now select the Texture tab and here will see a Scale option, which aptly controls the scale of the texture used for the raster brush.

Adjusting this value will change the size of the dots being painted, but as shown this only affects new strokes and not strokes that have already been committed to the canvas -

I hope this helps :)

I have this vector halftone workaround that has worked well on a few T-shirt jobs, which involves using Publishers data merge layout tool, it also works well for creating vector fill patterns - still no substitute for a real vector fill tool, but still usable.

Just realised the attached vector halftone workaround .afpub file was done in the latest beta so isn't compatible with the retail version😮
