Hi All,

I'm having a problem since the latest update on Designer.

I'll open a file and it's vibrant colours like it should. If I then select that colour and try and use it on a new document the color is incredibly dull. If I use a colour code (eg gold FFD700 it also is very dull compared to the Google image I've searched for to find the colour I want

Is there a setting somewhere that I'm doing wrong?

Please explain this in the most simple way I'm not too flash with computers

If the colour looks dull I would have thought the reason is you have gone from an sRGB IEC1966 2.1 document to a CMYK document.

If I add an image as a layer the colours are correct on that image. If I use the eye dropper to copy that colour it will come out the right colour but actually shows on the selected colour circle as a much darker version of what I used the eye dropper to sample.

If I open the image as a separate file and use the eye dropper then use it on a new document it comes out much lighter.

The color code can create totally different colors, depending on what color profile is used in the source and destination document.

Can you please give us that information, or provide screenshots showing of the documents showing that information?

If you use RGB/32 and RGB/8 or RGB/16, color codes are interpreted differently (linear gamma vs. gamma 2.2), again giving different colors from the same values.

Screenshots or a screen recording would be helpful. Please be sure to include the complete application window and the Layers panel as well as the recent Color panel.

Any chance that you can provide the screen shots or screen recordings?

ideally, accompanied by the actual files.

Otherwise it is almost impossible to help.

Your new document colour format appears to be RGB/32

Create a new document and use RGB/8 as the colour format

Are the colours now correct when you paste into that new document?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

As @carl123 said - don’t use RGB/32 unless you really need it (mostly creating HDR images by stacking multiple images, or importing 3D renders) and know exactly what you are doing.
Color values are interpreted totally differently vs. RBG/8 or RGB/16
