Affinity Designer: Optimising puzzle creation

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I’m looking to optimize the time it takes to create a puzzle.

I currently proceed as follows:

puzzle.thumb.webp.f8e5df0eb74dfdab0ad1a91ba3673606.webp

First piece:

  1. Select a piece of the puzzle.
  2. Go to the Layer | Insert | Inside menu (I’ve created a shortcut: ‘Insert key’).
  3. Insert the image.
  4. Shift the image to positions 0, 0, width, height.
  5. Copy this image with Ctrl C.

For the following pieces:

  1. Select another piece of the jigsaw.
  2. Use the ‘Insert key’.
  3. Paste the image with Ctrl V.

While this method is manageable with a small number of pieces, it becomes very time-consuming for a jigsaw of 1,000 pieces or more.

So I’m looking for a faster, more efficient method. If you have any suggestions or alternatives, I would be extremely grateful if you could share them.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

Mais je vous le demande, peut-on imaginer une police sans sérifs ?

I thank you, @Return, for this method. It works very well from Stock.

But how do you proceed from an image on the computer?

Weren't they mentioned in your recent thread, too? For instance in this first reply:

@thomaso, I didn't understand this method at the time.

After checking, I find that there is an offset which apparently renders this method unusable.

Check once more: Set the Extend mode to "Zero" and just click or move the centre handle slightly. To me it corrects this way:

Then it also works if moved, rotated and scaled:

Thanks @Return, @DWright, and @Tomasso.

That’s a big job solved. The initial puzzle took me around 4 hours to complete, with a high risk of error. The new version, with the shortcuts, took 2 hours. The new method does it in a few minutes … provided, of course, that all the pieces are in the same settings for rotation, tilt, etc.
