nickbatz Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 Editing this thread to ask my question: macOS Ventura Is there an easy way to get ICC profiles in the soft proof layer to appear alphabetically? I've only added a handful of them for different papers I print on, but there are a lot, and having to scroll through several dozen of them is a First World nuisance. They're installed in the systemwide ColorSync folder, not an Affinity location, but still. TIA Quote

There doesn't appear to be any way to alphabetise the profiles, they appear to be collected from Affinity installed profiles and system profiles. On Mac, these are the profiles found in the apps content > resources > Etc > Colour folder. I assume the rest shown in the soft proof window are from the system. nickbatz 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... It might be more relevant to understand how Affinity handles soft proof, respectively to be aware of its limitations which may become issues for certain profiles. There are are a few threads (some appear with a search for "soft proof", some need "softproof") discussing unexpected problems, some of the threads became quite long. Here an example link to a Serif moderator's comment: Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

Thanks, yes, I'm fully aware that soft proofing in Affinity Photo is at best a rough guideline, in fact it would take some doing to convince me that it's more than that in any program - even if you calibrate your printer using official tools (I just use the profile for my monitor and it's as close as it's going to get). But it is helpful as a crude test before I make the first of several hard proofs. When every blue in a picture is out of gamut, that's a clue that I'll want to make some adjustments. Now, never mind this, I wish it were possible to print directly from Affinity Photo (I'm talking about fine art printing, not just using the system driver). Would that, say, Canon Pro Print & Layout or even the QImage plug-in were supported. That's a million and one miles higher on my list than all that AI tosser crap people were on about a couple of weeks ago. Quote

So, it might help to try rewording the post. I also found that something like a binary search approach can help. Try to post half of the text. If that works, try to post (perhaps by editing the prior post) the other half. If one of them fails, break it down further, until you find the phrase that triggered the error, and reword that part. nickbatz 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.
