Roughen (in V2)

Recommended Posts

The workaround in the older thread by @NotMyFault works well, though it's a lot to go through for the given results, especially when you're used to things like this being "built in" to the software many of us formerly used. And, yes, it is a workaround for a tool that is used frequently for architectural drawings and a lot more.

Not being on the Serif team, there's no way to fully understand the prioritization of seemingly-basic requests like this. Hopefully this one is easy enough to implement and has enough traction to be included in 2.x.

It would definitely be another notable workflow improvement.

No news.
But "Roughen" is probably my #1 Illustrator feature that I miss in Affinity.

There are several workarounds/workflows that can simulate a "roughen" effect though. I've posted quite a few in the past years:

Yes, please, to both roughen and smoothen, provided they are versatile. That is, capable of handling extremes but also, and perhaps primarily, adept at producing small, curved, almost organic variations. So that straight lines do not resemble a machine-cut edge, and similarly with smoothen. Flexible.

I simply no longer believe that there are any professional graphic designers here. Everything follows suit. Just everything.
