whd Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Since the most recent update, I'm having trouble with the end caps on text line strokes. When I select from the round / square / butt cap options, it highlights that choice but doesn't appear to make any actual change to the lines. Additionally, the caps don't display consistently - adjusting the font size slightly or zooming in/out on the canvas causes the caps to glitch erratically. Video attached. Staff EmT Posted May 23, 2023 Staff Posted May 23, 2023 Hi @whd As the stroke applied to a font is a closed curve, there is no end cap for the Cap setting to apply to. If the curve was broken, you would then see this take effect. In regard to the other issues shown, could you send me the file in the video as a Package, including the font? Staff EmT Posted May 25, 2023 Staff Posted May 25, 2023 Hi @whd The issue seems to be related to the font you are using, this font is designed more for use in plotters and cutters rather than graphical design due to how the font is made up. I cannot replicate the issue if I swap to a different font such as Arial. whd Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 Hi @EmT yes I use this font to do engraving. I'd previously been using this same font in Designer with no issues at all. It worked fine in both Designer 1 and the original release of Designer 2, so something is wrong with the new release. (The new version release of Photo also has the same problem, I've noticed.) ronnyb 1 Quote
Staff EmT Posted May 26, 2023 Staff Posted May 26, 2023 Hi @whd I have tried this on v1 and I'm seeing the same behaviour as in v2 when changing the Join and Align settings in the stroke panel, can you send me a screen recording of the behaviour you are seeing in v1 please? whd Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 Hi @EmT I think we've already established that the Cap/Join/Align settings are not relevant here - I was initially confused because the glitch makes it appear as if the cap setting is incorrect, but none of those settings actually need to be adjusted. I've attached a video of v1, showing that all the caps on the letters appear consistently rounded, as expected. There is no glitchiness when adjusting the font size, like there is in v2.1.0. This is a brand new issue in this update, where sometimes the letters erratically have flat caps. Until this is fixed, how do I go about downgrading back to v2.0? Like v1, it had no issues with this. This problem makes v2.1.0 unusable for me, as the use of this particular font makes up the the vast majority of my time in the software. Thanks! v1 - no problems.mov Quote

Here on Mac OS 11.7 this is how your font looks in the Font Book application. I think there may be something wrong with how it is built. whd Posted May 27, 2023 Author Posted May 27, 2023 @Old Bruce It's a single-line font built for engravers. It's supposed to look that way and there's nothing wrong with it. As I've said, it worked 100% fine on all versions of Affinity until the 2.1 update. ronnyb 1 Quote
