colindun Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 I'm having a frustrating time with the handling of parameters in fields in Affinity Photo In Affinity Photo this either doesn't work or has unforeseen results. For example . . changing size of canvas . . 1) Select unconstrained (be nice to have this set to unconstrained by default, please?) 2) I want to change height from 2174px to 2374px 3) insert cursor after '1' in 2174 4) delete 1 and type in 3, and AF deletes the *whole* number, leaving just the 3 in the height field So I tried . . 3) *highlight* the 2 and 3 in 2174 4) delete highlighted 2 and 1, type in and AF deletes the *whole* number again, leaving just the last two digits typed. The only way that works seems to be to highlight the *whole* '2174px' and then replace it with 2374px. But if I select just the 2174 *without* the 'px' Affinity Photo *again* deletes the whole number and displays just the last two digits entered. Really weird. Also . . field tabbing . . In almost every other app I've used over the last 30 years, where there are linked parameter fields (eg resize canvas, resize document, crop size) you can enter data in one field then tab to the next field to add a size to that. In AF tabbing doesn't seem to work this way at all. If I try this in the crop fields, for example, and fill the width field then tab to height, AP leaves the height field unselected and instead changes the *opacity* of the layer I'm working on. Really odd and frustrating behaviour. Is this how it really works, or am I just being very dense? Quote
Dan C Posted April 26, 2023 Posted April 26, 2023 Hi @colindun, Sorry to hear you're having trouble! 3 hours ago, colindun said: Select unconstrained (be nice to have this set to unconstrained by default, please?) I can confirm that in our latest beta version (2.1) the crop tool will now use your previous Mode automatically, meaning that once Unconstrained has been selected once, you should not need to reselect this option when next cropping. 3 hours ago, colindun said: delete 1 and type in 3, and AF deletes the *whole* number, leaving just the 3 in the height field 3 hours ago, colindun said: delete highlighted 2 and 1, type in and AF deletes the *whole* number again, leaving just the last two digits typed. Equally, I can confirm that the above is also working as expected for me in the latest beta version - so it appears as though this issue has been fixed by our team. 3 hours ago, colindun said: If I try this in the crop fields, for example, and fill the width field then tab to height, AP leaves the height field unselected and instead changes the *opacity* of the layer I'm working on. Really odd and frustrating behaviour. This is a known issue with 'tabbing' in the crop tool and has not yet been addressed in our latest beta, however this is logged with our team and we hope for this to be addressed shortly, alongside a review of 'tabbing' behaviour throughout the Affinity app, in order to ensure this is consistent with our users expectations. If you wish to sign up for the beta version, you can find out more here - I hope this helps Quote
colindun Posted April 26, 2023 Author Posted April 26, 2023 Thanks Dan. All sounds really good ;0) Now, if only 'duplicate document' could be added (which in Photoshop creates an *exact* duplicate to the front-most document, resolution, size, guides and all, whereas AP's 'New from clipboard' doesn't maintain any of these things) I'd be a very happy man ;0) Dan C 1 Quote

The current build is 2.2.0.1986 so I do not know why @Serif Info Bot is referencing an older beta ..... Staff EmT Posted September 5, 2023 Staff Posted September 5, 2023 Hi @R C-R The build referenced in the comment is correct for this issue. We found that @Serif Info Bot had not been tagging fixed PD issues and so we triggered the post to occur for issues marked as fixed the last 2 versions. DarienGS Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 I'm running Affinity Photo 2.2.0.1986 on MacOS Ventura 13.4 and tabbing still doesn't work correctly in the Crop tool. When I type a value into the X field and hit Tab, the cursor still vanishes rather than moving to the Y field as it should. Quote

DarienGS Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 I keep optimistically downloading each new beta build as it comes out, but this bug still isn't fixed. It's incredible to me that the developers are prioritising things like building new a spiral tool ahead of basic workflow issues. Quote
Staff EmT Posted November 1, 2023 Staff Posted November 1, 2023 Hi @DarienGS Thank you for updating us that you can replicate this in the latest build, the developers are aware of this issue and it is being investigated. We cannot give you a time scale on when it will be fixed. However when it is, you will see a comment on this post from @Serif Info Bot advising you it has been fixed and in which build number. As a workaround, we have found that if you disable Full Keyboard Access in Settings > Accessibility. You can then tab between the X and Y fields.
