Unless I am doing something wrong before starting Affinity Photo V2, I have found the program not useable.

Recommended Posts

Just about every action ends up with the program having to wait.  Even "placing" which takes a split second in V1 takes just about forever.

Please tell me how I have set it up wrong since I assume the developers would never let this program out to the public the way it is acting with me.

Also, it hangs on a whim and will not recover.  Version 1 hangs this way as well.

I have enjoyed Affinity Photo very much!!   Not now!!

I hope the problem is in my setup.

Thanks for looking into this.

It might help to know which OS you're using, Ernie.

Hi Walk,

Thanks for replying...

Here are some computer specs:

Computer Specs:
-    Name DT04
    -    Dell XPS 8930
    -    CPU Intel i7-8700 & 3.2 - 6 cores
    -    GPU NVidia GForce GTX 1060 6GB
    -    RAM - 32 GBs

When V2 was installed, it did not uninstall V1 so I'm wondering if this might have something to do with it,

Also, are others having the same problems as I am having?

Many Thanks!

That should not be related to your problem.

Thanks for the added info. It doesn't suggest anything to me, but maybe it will help someone else come up with some ideas.

My Photo V2 for Mac started OK but then when I tried to select Edit the menu bar went haywire dashing from one option to another and back again repeatedly.  I quit and then the program disappeared.  I went to the Apps folder and it wasn't there.  So I downloaded it again, opened it, used it briefly and quit and again it instantly vanished.  It's not in my recycle bin, so what is going on?  What do I have to do to keep the program?

Perhaps it was not installed before app launch but run from the opened .dmg file without having moved the application to the application folder?

Once it occurs in the dock you can click its app icon with the command key pressed to get its according macOS Finder window opened to check the file path.

Thank you Thomaso.  I have found the dmg file in downloads.  Clicking on it opens it but does not install the app it seems.  I have drag and dropped it into the Apps folder.  I have also had to manually attach the icon to the dock.  All this seems unsatisfactory - I would have expected it to have automatically fully installed.  It is the same now with Publisher 2.

Can you clarify what the "it" in that statement means?

Thanks. What you're supposed to do is Open the DMG, then drag the app it contains into the Application folder. I think you do that within the DMG window, but I'm not sure as I don't use a Mac.

You don't put the DMG itself into Applications.

Unless you got a literally installer app this workflow is very common on mac since many years.

As far I see also Serif's Affinity .dmg illustrate what to do to install the .dmg contents (= the wanted app) by the displayed arrow > and the Application folder.

As has been mentioned, if you mean double-clicking on it to open it, this is the normal & expected behavior for DMG files. Then, to install the app, as indicated by @thomaso you just drag the app into the alias of the Mac Applications folder (indicated by the small curved arrow at the bottom right) to add it to the Applications folder.

Afterwards you can eject the DMG file & drag it to the trash.

Thank you all, this has worked.  I have to say that I have installed many programs over the years and they have always proceeded to put the full App in the App folder.  This is a distinct exception, and it was not self evident to me that the diagram indicated that you drag and drop within the dialog box.  I'll know for the future.  Thanks again.

That is true for apps that are supplied as installer packages (PKG files) that are installed by the Apple installer application (in System/Library/CoreServices) when you double click on them. Their icons look like partially open cardboard boxes. It is also true for apps obtained from the Mac App Store, which are installed in the Applications folder automatically when downloaded.

DMG files are just disk images that can contain any kind of files but are often used for apps that can be installed by a simple drag & drop.

It appears that my post here has been hijacked to another discussion regarding installation on an Apple machine.

I would still appreciate any ideas as to why Affinity Version 2.0 which I installed on two separate computers is slow on both of them.

No one else seems to have this problem????

Thanks for your attention to this request.

Unfortunately, that happens. On the other hand, before the hijacking there were two posts asking you questions that I don't think you ever answered.

I think the questions you are referring to, Walt, would be:

 1)   Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers?

        Answer:  Yes

2)    Is / was there a specific use to create a second thread for this issues 5 minutes later?

Answer:   One thread regards Version 1.10 hanging but it is not slow.

The other thread refers to Version 2.0 being slow and hanging as well

Also, Walt,  is there a way to reply directly underneath each question instead of at the end of the series?

Appreciate it!

Hi @ErnieAd,

If you are still having trouble with V2, can you try uninstalling Affinity Photo V2 and reinstalling using the MSI/EXE version of Affinity V2 which you can download by following the advice on this post.  I've seen reports from other users with similar issues to yourself with V2 and using the MSI version resolved their issues :)
