Affinity Version 2 - does this look like progress ?

Recommended Posts

I purchased v2 in hope of progress - but all in vain
Despite this, the more I look into the new version I see setbacks, e.g.

Crop Tool
with v1 it was possible to change the unit e.g. to millimeters at any time, now with v2 this is blocked.

OK, you can set the mode to RESAMPLE but than then aspect ratio is frozen. So it's no longer possible to crop an image in units of measure. => for some actions I keep using v1

Again the Crop Tool: Formerly with v1 you could see if the crop area snapped in on top, bottom, left or right border (green or red lines), now: nothing, you can guess, takes time, slows down the work ...: v1 was better

Progress looks different

You have to set the mode to "Resample" before changing to mm.

Hi @Snoopy17,

Our apologies for the delayed response here - I have raised this with our Dev team, as if you change the Document Units in use for your file before entering the Crop Tool, these new units are then used for the Unconstrained mode. Therefore I see no reason why this dropdown menu should not be active, without the need to change to Resample - as in V1.

Our team are looking into this further and we hope to restore this functionality in an upcoming update.

I hope this helps :)

Any idea what makes this appear to me in V1 as it is reported for V2 only? – Is there a difference between macOS and Windows?

I can confirm that in V1 Windows it was possible to change the Units when in Unconstrained mode, though this option was disabled in macOS V1 as your recording shows.

The issue that was logged with our dev team was resolved for V2, by disabling the option on Windows, to match V1 macOS - however as above I don't personally see the reason for this.

Considering it was possible (and working) on Windows for V1, and you can change the Units for the document before entering the crop tool in V2 on both platforms, therefore I've requested for both platforms in V2 to allow access to this option, without the additional step of changing the document units before activating the Crop Tool.

I hope this clears things up :)

You can also change the Units in V2 after selecting the Crop Tool, just not via its Context Toolbar. You can do it by right-clicking on the units in the Rulers, if you have them displayed.
