How would I make a Kawaii cookie like this using the ellipse tool?

I think you’ve answered your own question, Josie! ;)

Hi Josie,

It may help to visualise the shapes that makeup the image. In this case its 3 circles over the top of one another offset slightly each time with a black stroke applied to each. If you look at the layer panel in the following screenshot you should see how this can be done in Affinity using the Ellipse tool. The rest of the details can be drawn using the same techniques used to create the cookie however you may need to try other shapes for the mouth etc.

Thanks

Like this?

Exactly like that. Well, maybe not exactly, unless you’re trying to feed ten people with one cookie! And the colour’s a bit on the bright side: try changing it to a medium brown, and put a smaller ellipse on top using a lighter brown to give you the shaded edge that you see in your reference image.

So this is good?

It looks kind of flat without any shading, but other than that it looks pretty good to me.

If you inspect the reference image you should be able to see that the shading is achieved by using a darker shade of brown for the main ellipse and putting a smaller and lighter ellipse on top, slightly offset and with a Gaussian Blur effect applied to soften the edge.

If affinity designer for iPad doesn’t have an offset tool where I can make the shading for the design how can I do it? Because iPad has a lot less features in it then the computer seems to have. Making it way more complicated then it needs to be.

‘So how can I create a design without half of the features in affinity designer for the iPad?

Can’t find the offset tool anywhere in affinity designer when using my iPad. Please help.

thanks

Just make a second ellipse and move it using the Move Tool.

What he said! I didn’t mention an Offset Tool, all I suggested was

putting a smaller and lighter ellipse on top, slightly offset

The example I posted was created in AD on iPad.

How are these?

Not bad, Josie, but I think they would look better if the stroke on the top part were the same width as on the other two. And you might want to move the eyes and mouth up a bit.
