Is there a comprehensive list of all the Affinity proprietary file formats anywhere?

Recommended Posts

What I am looking for is a list that includes not just the basic native document afdesign/afpub/afphoto file type but also filetypes like *.afpalette, *.afmacro & *.afmacros, *afbrushes, *.afassets, & the more obscure ones like *.aftoolpresets & anything else that only the Affinity apps can create or use.

What would be really nice is the list plus what each one is used for, how to save/load/import/export/access each of them, perhaps as a table in an APub document.

Affinity Photo

Hi @R C-R :)

Unfortunately there's no such document list available currently, however I can certainly see how this would be useful!

I'll create a request with our documentation team for this, though I'm unsure of their workload/priorities, so I couldn't provide any sort of guarantee here at this time.

In the meantime, you're more than welcome to create such a resource yourself and share it here on the forums - although I do understand you might not be aware of exactly each file type or use case so we're more than happy to answer any specific questions you may have regarding any of the file formats.

I hope this helps!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

I have considered trying to do that but I was hoping there was at least a complete list of the file types available because without that, I could never be sure I had included them all.

Failing that, maybe other interested users will reply to this topic with the file types they have noticed on their systems so we can crowd source the resource ....?

I think a post with the file types that are known is a good start and as others are found the post can be updated. maybe something akin to this?

File Type: .afpalette

Usage: Used to store app created palettes

Import: From the Swatches Panel burger menu, import as an Application, document or system palette.

Export:  From the Swatches Panel burger menu, Export as an afpalette only.

Yes, that is what I would like to see, ideally adaptable to a table (or spreadsheet or CSV or whatever) format. I guess 4 columns would be enough if Import/Load was one of them & Export/Save was another, but I am not sure that would work for every Affinity file type.

It also might be useful to add a 5th column for the location of any associated *.propcol files, but that might be a  bit much because of the different locations they are in depending on the OS & store the apps were bought from.

Hello everyone

I created a FAQ suggestion a while ago containing all file types i already found.
Sadly I didn't include what they are used for (yet).

Hereby the reference to that post.

Maybe like R C-R suggests, we can start to complete the list and then I can modify the first post, to contain all types and what they are used for?

Since your topic predates mine & has a good start at listing all the file types, I think that is the topic those interested should contribute to instead of this one.

BTW, I did add a comment there.
